    $50,000 divided by $14 (rough average for footlong meal) is 3,571 meals. You could eat Subway once every day for 10 years. I read the conditions, there is nothing stating you can't change your name back as soon as the contest is over.

    I think Charlie underestimates how many people struggle to even buy food in the first place. I would take this deal in a heartbeat and I don’t even like subway. Who cares what my legal name is, not like I’d go by that name anyways. But 50k in gift cards to subway is genuinely life changing for so many people.

  • @vanessaashford9203

    @vanessaashford9203

    name changes are also not free, though, in fact they involve a lot more in the way of court and filing fees and stuff than you likely would think, meaning they're unlikely to be very accessible to someone who isn't food secure in the first place. Also, I agree with a lot of the other commenters in here, I don't know if I'd put my money on Subway actually being around in the long run to honor the deal (at the very least, there's definitely no guarantee that it'd be available in your area in the future, as they're closing entire franchises a lot lately). It's also not actually free food for life, just $50,000 worth (granted, that probably would be effectively a lifetime's worth for many people). There've been points in my life where I literally could not afford food at all for weeks at a time, and even in those situations, I'd still probably rather go with stuff like church food drives over potentially selling my soul to a failing fast food corporation with who knows what kind of stipulations.

  • @vanessaashford9203

    oh yeah, also, to legally change your name, you have to go before a judge and argue your case for why you're changing it. I think this varies somewhat by state, but many states give the judge the power to veto any name change that they deem "absurd" or otherwise inappropriate, so you could potentially end up going through all that time, money, and tedious effort just to go before a judge who thinks the idea of changing your name to "Subway" is too stupid to let happen (also, you could get a judge who just hates poor people, and takes delight in shitting on your attempts at getting free food basically just because they can argue that "Subway" isn't a legitimate name).

  • @vanessaashford9203

    tbh, I'm reminded of that guy in Alaska about ten years back who was paid by a bunch of porn sites to get their logos and URLs tattooed on his body to act like a living billboard for them (it's really hard to legally advertise porn in the US, so sites tend to get creative). Although he apparently got enough money from it that he didn't need to work for years, it eventually came back to haunt him, because after a while he had almost nowhere left on his body for more tattoos where they'd still be legible, he'd spent all the money he'd earned from the ones he had, and he'd turned himself into a social pariah who literally couldn't find any regular work at that point (a lot of the tattoos were obviously very visible, including face tats, something which in general a lot of jobs will reject you for, but *especially* when they're the names of porn sites), so he was eventually electing to get them removed, but he was back to barely having the money to do so by that point. The moral of the story is, there really is no free lunch, and to be careful what you get yourself into.

    The problem with raw chicken is a very common bacteria Salmonella that basically most chickens have and it's unavoidable. It doesn't hurt the chicken at all and actually helps it - humans also have hundreds of bacterias that live in symbiosis with us and even help with digestion and immune system. The problem is when Salmonella gets inside of you - it doesn't have a symbiosis with your body, unlike the chicken. So you can get very sick and even die. If it is diagnosed fast, though, you will be fine, because it responds well to treatment. It's just if you leave it for long enough before contacting a doctor - it really does a number on you. And we are talking days, not weeks, so thewindow is pretty small and lots of people misd it, because you don't immediately go to a hospital if you throw up, so people treat it like food poisoning, hoping it will pass. Now, the odds of getting sick are not 100%. A lot of paultry is treated with antibiotics, and washed. The bacteria only lives in the digestive tract of the bird, so proper butchering techniques helps a lot with keeping the meat clean. The risk is still non-zero, but there are many chicken breasts and thighs that don't have anything on them (and lots that do). So we kind of accepted that all of it should be treated as if contaminated. The risk is also lower inside the muscle, so if the outside is cooked but the middle is raw - the chance is smaller. But still substantial, so never eat it! You don't want literal bloody diarrhea! Charlie ate a piece of chicken breast, that is pretty far from internals so harder to contaminate. It was also likely marinated and cooked on the inside. All of that reduces the risk. The japanese for their sushimy just take extra care not to contaminate and also sterilize the meat. And you still get people who get sick every year! So yeah. If you suspect you have eaten raw chicken, and especially if you start getting food poisoning symptomes - better go and get tested. 😮 But don't panic - there's nothing immediately life-threatening, you have time to do ot calmly.

    @@-Mintyyhardly comparable. I pay 7 dollars for a 12 in spicy Italian with everything on it at subway, while an 8 in Vito at Jimmy Johns is nearly double the price at 12. Comparing Subway to sandwiches double the price like Jersey mikes or JJ and then complaining is silly

    It's more the ingredients and freshness of them. Subway breads has so much sugar in it that in Irelan they no longer classify it as bread but as cake. All the ingredients they use are cheap and often very old. Anyone with half decent cooking skills could make a subway at home that's a lot healthier, tastier and cheaper. That's not talking about all the health problems relating to the meat they use or their horrible publicity. Jared from subway was probably the worst marketing decision ever, all the money they spent on him just gave a pedo power, he also used all the money subway had paid him on his legal fees so in a way they're supporting a paedophile. There's also the fact the chicken in subway apparently has more soy in it than chicken. They also used to put azodicarbonamide in the sandwich, a chemical used to make yoga mats. Hope that clears up why subway is so terrible
