Subnautica is a once in a lifetime experience. The first time playing subnautica is an absolute rollercoaster. However, I feel like that means future subnautica games won’t be able to capture the same feeling as the original (bz a perfect example).

@@wyldcat9396 It's as if the devs thought that they needed to make it less terrifying. Everything underwater has too much bioluminescence, and the night sky is lit up by auroras. The open waters and dark nights in the original were key features. It's a shame they dropped both of those for Below Zero. And along with a terrible storyline and main character of Below Zero, the on-land portions were dreadful. There are multiple ways to get into all the locations of Subnautica. Below Zero has exact paths you must take. I spent hours on that damn landmass just trying to figure out how to get to a location. I pray that they learned their lesson and don't set 1/3 of Subnautica 3 on land, and let the player be the main character instead of a written character.
Subnautica is one of those games where I wish I could forget everything about it, just to experience it for the first time again.

Me going in blind to the game was one of the greatest gaming experiences I've ever had. Knew absolutely nothing about the game other than it was given away on PS Plus (and later Epic Games on PC). So I thought it might just be a wonky or cheap indie game. Boy was I wrong in the best way possible lol. The sheer terror hightailing my ass back to safe shallows after being spotted by the ghost lev in (lost river?), also seeing it for the first time and thinking it was chasing me all the way back... Lmao. I held my breath as if I were underwater most of the way back.

I liked that aspect. While clearly unrealistic, it brought a slight realism to the inventory system, a bit of micromanagement, but not enough to be repulsive, and a strategic element to what and how much you can bring and/or gather on your excursions. Which in turn adds to the fear/stress factor when encountering leviathans or other formidable enemies.

This game is one of the best and most unique of survivalcraft games I've played. Awesome setting, great score/sound design. The tinge of terror that comes with many enviroments is perfectly fitting for a stranded survivor on an alien planet. There's many moments of wonder at it's natural beauty, like the cove tree, the giant mushroom, etc. which again, is perfectly apt for the premise of the story. I felt like I explored the secrets of a wondrous and dangerous planet. There's a long list of minor misteps, technical issues, and in my opinion the aggressive fauna that are not leviathans aren't nearly dangerous enough, but the positives are tough to outweigh. 9/10 can't be missed if you like these kinds of games.
to be fair, i watched a lot about subnautica to where i already knew the leviathans and everything before i started playing. my first time seeing a reaper leviathan was still utterly terrifying, though.
great Video! gets me really nostalgic
I got this game when it was one of the free games of the month on PlayStation. I've played the hell out of it! Several times, in fact.
I'm extremely excited for the third game. I do hope they expand on the variety of biomes from the first game. I bought Subnautica recently and i had a lot of fun playing it. The first few hours were very confusing and i had a hard time figuring out what to do and were to go - and scary big fish did a good job at keeping me away from certain areas. But with time i understood what to do and i grew bold enough to explore the more dangerous areas and it felt really fun. I have to say that there are not enough games out there that do a similar job at making exploration this fun and i hope that the third game delivers. I did play BZ and while i liked it, it didn't click in the same way as the first one, mainly because the map felt so small in comparison and while the lilypad islands and the tree spires were really fun to be in, the other areas didn't seem fun enough to actually stay there and build a base. (I did play BZ first)
I played both Subnautica games on both PlayStation 4 & 5 and enjoyed the hell out of them both again! I can't wait for the third!!

I heard a podcast with the CEO of Unknown Worlds a few years ago and I think he alluded to there being very different opinions in the company when it comes to where to take BZ. He also didn't really work on BZ because he and a lot of the team were quite sick with Subnautica after working so hard and so long on the first one. So I think the people who made the first one great just didn't really have enough of a voice in making BZ.

I realize I’m late but I just bought this game after finally watching a 100 hours video of it. I’d heard of it obviously but I avoided it like a plague because I know certain huge KZreadr gamers were into it and a huge amount of people like that can make a games community a little iffy. But I finally watched it and I’m so glad I finally did. I was being cynical and would’ve missed a beautiful game. Even just watching the playthrough and seeing how the sunlight is dispersed in the first few meters of water… it’s just beautiful. My husband got me into Satisfactory and I thought this seemed similar but with ocean and a bit of a story. I feel so bad for being a cynical jerk and who knows how many games I’ve missed because of it. I’m just glad I can look forward to starting this game now. I don’t mind starting games years after they come out but I wish I hadn’t denied myself the experience because I was being an old salty fuddy dutty.
Subnautica is still a very relevant game; despite its flaws; it still feels unique, and since it was handcrafted, unlike games like "Minecraft", it feels more interactive. Every plant, Critter or fish has been placed for a reason, and it gives life to the game. - It has what most games does not: Hints, yet not holding your hand; and allow you to play. naturally, you're drawn to the big ship, and at some point you push your limits. In honesty, It's my favorite survival game.
