Sublimation Coating: Can You Coat Regular Mugs and Shirts?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

A few weeks ago we discussed sublimation blanks and ever since I have been getting questions on sublimation coating products. Do they work? Which are best? Do they make dye sublimation any cheaper? So, I ordered a few coating products to tryout for myself. WARNING: Be sure to watch the video to see my results before you order any of these!

    When you have scorching from the heat press, doing sublimation, you can lightly spray the scorched area with hydrogen peroxide and it should take the brown marks away.

    The PolyCoats are really for specific projects and takes a lot more time. It is worth sticking to professional sublimation blanks. Did want to mention - tape upper parts of mugs where mouths will be if someone will be drinking from the mug. Also, use a very fine sand paper over the mug after the coating has dried and this will make it smooth. I’ve also seen pros lightly sand mugs before putting on the poly coating as they say it helps. For shirts, if you wet the edges (with water before pressing) where you sprayed the poly , but are not sublimating it helps to not get the darkened area. You can also lightly spray brown areas with peroxide/water right after, leave for a bit, and then rinse. Love your channel! Thanks for keeping us inspired!

    On the sublimation spray for fabrics, I used it on 100% cotton towels & washed them with just baking soda in the washer & tumble dried like normal and it came off no issues. I used the same product as well as a different company's spray which is similar.

    Silk screen is where you use ink to paint the fabric. You can see how here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pauJw5RvZJufhdI.html and sublimation is where there is a reaction and the ink is embedded into the fibers of the shirt for instance. Here is a basics on it: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fKanqcx8ht2biaQ.html

    Angie hi, regarding the fabric poly spray, was wondering if you have tried this technique using your heat press instead of the Cricut press. I've seen a KZread video showing no yellowing on a 100% cotton sweat shirt using a regular heat press. I've tried using my Cricut heat press several times with a poly spray and no matter what temp I use, there's yellowing (like it burns the t-shirt). So I'm wondering if maybe the result would be more favorable using a regular heat press.

    Thank you Angie- you saved me some money and I appreciate it. I think for now, I will stay away from trying these products. I could clearly see the difference. I was , however- surprised that the cotton took the ink ( the un-sublimated side) fairly well. I thought it wouldn't print at all

    Interesting video. The WRMK wrap seemed to work well with the sublimation blank. I recently bought the set at a greatly reduced price so if everything works except the coating, I'm OK with that. I'm hoping the wraps will work on tumblers also.

However, when I use my polyester item the image does not transfer to the material. I have a Vevor 8 in 1 heat press. Can you please help me figure out what I am doing wrong? Please!!!

    Not sure about these, but the Subli-T spray is amazing and works wonders. Also, the little bit of yellowing can be fixed by a quick spray of peroxide. You can sublimate in cotton and it will look great until you wash it. Because the ink has nothing to bond with, it will wash out. Otherwise, the spray I use works great, those cheap brands are terrible.

    I saw the WRMK kit on HSN and when I asked about the transfer coating, I was told that it was only for use on cotton fabric, and not on hard surfaces like mugs. Do the written instructions say something different? I wasn’t convinced that the coating would be any good, but I ordered the kit anyway because I wanted to try the transfer pens and the price was right! Thank you for an excellent video!

  • @craftpaintcreate2328

    @craftpaintcreate2328

    @@AngieHolden Wow! That's not what they told me! I was told that the mug in the kit is already a sublimation blank, so there was no need to put any coating on it, and that the coating in the little bottle is only for cotton fabric items. I ordered 3 of the kits because they were on such a great sale, so I'll try pressing one of the mugs without adding any of the coating, and I'll let you know what happens. I hate it when there are conflicting instructions!!! I mainly ordered the kits for the transfer pens and because I wanted to try the coating stuff on a cotton tote to see if it would work. I was also curious about the silicone wraps. I already have a regular mug press, but if the wraps are easy to use, they would be more convenient than having to drag out the press every time I want to make a few mugs!
