I come back regularly. This is an amazing cover. I heard rumors than the guys in Rush have all heard and loved it. I saw a version where Jacob plays a recording of Neil Peart saying "subdivisions" that he got when he met the guys.

If by the holy trinity you mean Rush, then yes...I had the good fortune to play this song for them at their induction into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.

I remember seeing this in 09 and I'm still just as blown away by his performance. So good, and yeah I remember it got their attention! Good stuff.

Totally blown away. This is the proper way to cover a song by Rush, create a fantastic interpretation of it instead of trying to play it note for note and try to be a clone.

I totally agree with you. If I was singing a Rush song I would not try to sing it like Geddy Lee. He's too unique to try to copy and I would feel better singing in my own style.

I'm getting sentimental in my old age. This moved me to tears.

Here because I've been thinking about Neil Peart all night. This is the first song I thought of. Yeah he was the greatest living rock drummer. But this careful arrangement highlights Pearts best lyric? Finding a fitting mathematical metaphor in the design and alienation of the suburbs. A journalist once reminded me while Bruce Springsteen was a working class hero those steel mill days were largely gone, and there weren't any middle class hero's writing for people struggling in the suburbs and office spaces where most of us live. But there is Subdivisions. Peart certainly wrote some lines that meant a lot to kids growing up back in the day. I'm sure someone got a friend, brother or dad that this song meant a lot too.

And cool fact, when I heard Jacob Moon performed this live for the first time, the "subdivisions" was the professor himself. I'm not 100% if it is here.

@@maryannepaul2980 It wasn't in this video. I just heard a podcast where Jacob said he got Neil to record that in 2010 when he played this for their Canadian Song Writers Hall of Fame induction. If you notice in this video, he first records himself saying subdivisions and then plays that back during the song performance. And he said he now only uses Neil's voice when he plays it live now.

Whenever I get bored with my guitars and my voice I come back to this video and refresh my desire drive. This has to be my favorite cover of any cover I’ve heard (and we’re talking thousands of ‘em since ‘74.). If you can take 2 guitars, a human voice, a looper, a hand held digital recorder and a foot driven beat box and cover Rush, you could very easily be best thing that happened that year.

@@jacobmoon Thank YOU. Your roof video of “Subdivisions” remains in regular rotation on my video playlist. Within the large and very impressive body of work Rush gave us, Subdivisions struck me as among the most meaningful. I’m aware the literal poetic object of it was directed toward the alienation of urban living, but in the years since it’s creation I have applied the song to many different observed compartmentalizations in society….economic, gender bias, race, regional bias, etc. Your interpretation of it moved me deeply. I actually felt it as much as I heard it when you delivered it, and that’s not easily accomplished. I fear the days of actually creating a deeply moving social statement in popular music may be vanishing. Thank you again for reviving that amazing song.

R.I.P. Neil Peart. Thank you for everything you did for us.

As a rush fan of 30+ years, I have to say this is just jaw dropping. *Never* expected to see anyone approach this as a solo number. Well, maybe on piano, but not guitar! You are a seriously gifted musician.

Have to say, I am very particular about how this song is covered. It is my favorite Rush song. The lyrics, music and vocals converge into a prefect song. So when you cover it, your style of music and vocal, whether they are similar or tweaked, as they are here, better fit the song. I was surprised to hear how well this version sounds. Good job.

+1 agree. At the start I had one shoe off ready to throw it, but put it back on by 0:10. He's got a great sense of ingenuity, the way he's done this touches all the bases for me. It's a great cover.

I think it's a pretty impressive cover, he captures the spirit of Rush, and matches Rush's ability of multi tasking onstage. The use of loopers in this is brilliant.

There is a comedy band that did a whole Cover album dedicated to 80's music. The lead singer Danny is a HUGE Rush fan so they covered Subdivisions. I didn't know that was part of the album and when it came on I cried so much. It was beautiful. They also did Madrigal which is a really obscure Rush song to cover. The album is Under the Covers by Ninja Sex Party. I Highly Recommend it!

Wow. Been a Rush fan for well over 40 years, this is my all time favourite Rush song, and possibly the greatest cover of any song I've ever heard. Just absolute class.

Ive been to a few of his concerts and let me tell you. This man is incredibly talented singer and musician, I refer to him as, "The King of the LOOP." I have never heard him sing off key or off beat and his guitar skills are mindblowing. He's really professional and its as if he's playing a studio recorded song there (But he's not) he's just so precisely good and can sing it the exact same way 100 + times

I don't need any drum track. Neil always will be in my ears and my heart. Awesome version made with truly love for Rush's songs.

How often I have come here to listen to this man's cover of one of the most beautifully choreographed songs, is beyond me. Take a bow, Jacob.

I never get tired of this cover. Been coming back to this video often and for years.

This is the first time I've heard this arrangement. It really hit home because there are no percussive parts involved, and tomorrow is one year since Neil passed away. Easily the most impressive Rush cover I've heard. RIP Neil.

The moment you realize you are witnessing something truly special and unique.

Jacob Moon's cover does this incredible classic not only justice but also takes the band's own prowess to a whole new level - that of using few musicians (three in Rush's case) to produce a full, powerful, and honed sound. In Moon's case, he's just one guy - and he rocks this tune with apparent ease. The guys in Rush were so pleased, they asked him to play at their Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony!

I think I've said this before, but this is the greatest cover ever made. It completely changed my approach to KZread. How the hell does this guy only have 3.7 thousand subscribers?

Still on the list of best things ever. Killer cover, beautifully done.

Amazing. Really pulls out the melancholy of the song and beauty. Wonderful.

This version really moves me. I keep coming back to it. Love the setting, love the acoustic cover. Then I went back to Rush's original version, and it is so daunting and moving it itself. Two renditions of this song. The original wonderful creation, and this wonderful version.

The tone of the electric guitar in this is exactly what my heaven is going to sound like

this is by far the most beautiful rendition of a song that i have ever heard. tears of joy are streaming down my face. pure magic. thank you.

I've been watching this clip and listening to his version of this song for several times now, and it appears to me that Mr. Moon's interpretation of this Rush classic is a "work of art"!!! When he sings, he is clear and unmuffled. The lyrics paint a picture of social stratification, and trying to fit in to certain circles. Jacob was very tasty in his instrumentation, blending an assortment of acoustic and electric guitars, and sound effects, without trying to clutter or swamp the arrangement with drums, percussion, bass, horns, strings or keyboards. He was very self-contained, and thorough in making the song his own, without trying to sound like the original in terms of tempo or key, or vocal imitation of Geddy Lee. With that and Rush's original you have not one, but two original arrangements. An electric hard rocking version from Rush themselves, often copied by tribute bands, and other cover artists, and you have slower, mellower soft rocking acoustic version by Jacob Moon, that is both complicated and simply sophisticated, but yet taking the song to another level. Mr. Moon has put a lot of work into this cover, and it has been praised by thousands of people including Rush themselves. This is one cover where every time he hear it, I wish it would never end. Thank you Jacob for presenting it, and your unique talent to all us. We are happy to have heard it.

I so enjoy covers that people make their own and fill it with heart and great affection which I can clearly hear in this song. Much has happened in 10 years....but my love for RUSH will never cease. Very happy to have come upon this superb rendition! Yeah, they were those kind of guys and made you take notice just by who they were. Glad they really appreciated this effort, I know I did!
