Subaru Sambar 4WD w/ kit review!!

I've spent close to $15K on this fake-ish van by exporting it to the US only to have it returned back to me in Japan! But it's so awesome I just had to make a video. (Sound Fixed!)
It might look like something else, but this van is a 1993 Subaru Sambar with part-time 4WD. It's a tiny kei-van (light-weight van) with a ridiculous pink body kit...and I love it!!
Watch me take a tour of it, then out for a spin!
Be sure to check out all the cars I export at Javan Imports!

I have one of these and I'm currently living in Japan is there a way I can get it to be accepted if I ship it back to USA? Like, may take the VW logo off the front? Any suggestions?

  • @MyRetroVans

I would take off the VW logo and any VW remnants. If it doesn't resemble the original, there's a chance it may not clear customs. So be mentally prepared to either have it disposed of sent back to Japan :(

The kit is fine, it’s the Volkswagen emblem it’s counterfeit trademark. It can look any way you want it when it comes to the port just as long as it does not have a Volkswagen emblem anywhere on it.

It’s older than 25 years so none of the safety stuff shouldn’t have mattered. Mine should be here in a couple weeks and has vw conversion. They shouldn’t have sent it back for having just a vw emblem on it either that’s messed up. Hopefully my importer doesn’t have any problems. Good luck sir.

If anybody wants one of these and you decide to get it imported here make sure there is no VW emblems anywhere on it mine just got flagged at the port for counterfeit trademark and it’s costing me an extra 4000 to get it shipped back to Japan just to get the emblem taken off and shipped right back here. And be careful also because the seller of mine edited out the VW emblem on all the pictures so I didn’t even know it had one on there so be careful. Learn from my costly mistake.

@@MyRetroVans It was through a local importer but through a third-party, goo-net so I think it’s a kind of buy as is deal. The importer basically told me that we can’t get any money out of them for this mistake. This is the first car I’ve ever had anybody import for me so I don’t really know anything about the laws or rules. but they seem like straightforward honest company I don’t feel like they’re scamming me. They looked at the same pictures that I got so they were also unaware of the Volkswagen emblem that had been edited so I don’t blame them.

Volkswagen caught wind of this year’s ago and have put a stop to it. It’s not The look, they can’t do anything about that it’s the emblem. if a car shows up in a port with a different emblem than the manufacture it is counterfeit trademark.
