I've only added a K&N style air breather and changed the sprockets. I'm 312 lbs and I get 41mph out of this engine. It's made for go-karts so it's pretty torquey! Wish they made aftermarket Preformance parts for it like they do the Honda clone engines. They do for the Subaru EX21 though! They're big in Australia. That overhead cam is a great design!!! Like the old CB hondas.

Got a hold of KX11 engine without remote start, trying to transfer from existing Ex21 . Do you know where I can obtain timing key for ex21 ? Or would u transfer crank cogwheel from ex21 flywheel to kx21??

How do you remove the governor on 3019 Subaru legacy

So I'm putting everything back together on the carb and I'm having issues with the idle. It wants to idle extremely high. Do you know what I did?

Have you tried messing with the idle screw ?

What happens if i put too much oil? I bought a go kart with a subaru 4hp engine. Put a whole qt of oil in it.. it starts up but it spits oil and gas out from the exhaust.. or do you think the engine is messed up?

Hahaha, Just drain the oil and put the correct amount in it. Shouldn't hurt it any really, probably will smoke alot at first.

Open or close the carb like any other engine. I just revs over 3800rpm now.

you need to install a return spring to shut the throttle during idle

I have the same type of engine, but the sticker on it says 5hp and on the other side EX 13 stamped into the engine. I just bought a new carb off eBay I'm guessing all of them are pretty much the same right?

No!!! They don't make them for this engine. EX21 only. I also have the EX17. It's a great engine. Disappointed I can't get a cam,billet flywheel, rod,etc! You can put aftermarket carb(22mm mikuni), a header, and valve springs. If you don't have the tools to test springs just put a washer under the springs. I'm about to start building mine today (as much as possible). It's 6.5 hp and only 160cc. That overhead cam in my opinion is much better that the predators &clones! All I've done is put a K&N style air filter and changed the sprockets. I'm 312lbs and I get 41mph. Still governed!!! Can't wait to see what I can really get out of it!!!

I took my governor out and started it and it revved to the damn moon and i thought it was about to blow up but i turned it off, how can i fix this, should i mess with idle?

Sounds to me like you have the throttle wide open. Check that first.

I had the same problem you have to make a throttle linkage from carb to throttle lever.

@@jdickborron1 I used a sturdy coat hanger wire and bent it so that it would connect the manual throttle lever (on engine) to the throttle valve on carb so I could use gas pedal as direct throttle adjustment. Hope this helps

When you take the governor off of this engine or off a predator or any small engine like this with the same governor and spring throttle setup you have to make sure that your carburetor has a throttle return spring

WTF... first 15 seconds was looking for a 10mm... lost interest... moved on.
