SUBARU FORESTER TECHNICAL OFF ROAD ... CAN LAND ROVERS DEFEAT US ?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this episode you're gonna see 3 OFF ROAD SUBARU FORESTER and 2 Land Rover Defender evolved in a TECHNICAL OFF ROAD TRAIL.
That was some pretty hardcore Subaru Forester Off road action !
Note that they are all lifted forester !
It was only my second time (real) offroading (it's not softroading anymore !) and I'm pretty happy with how the Foz and I handled this !

Sure they do and you know it ! For example, it took at least 6 attempts for the green Land Rover to pass the ravine at 11:15 but only 2 attempts for the grey Forester.... If you have more footage of that day, I'm keen to see it !

I would say the Foresters really gave a good match to the Defenders. One striking difference is the tyres, the Defenders both had 100% offroad tyres, just helps out a lot. You could also see they had diff locks, which gives you such an advantage offroad. Lower gear ratios gives more control and lower speeds. But hey the Defenders are built for offroading, but oh my, try driving them on the road 😅 Subaru sg 2005, 2.0 n/a with dual range gearbox, 2" lift front, 2,5" lift back, 225/70r15 Yokohama Geolandar is what I drive, fantastic car onroad and offroad 🤙

Really cool seeing the Foresters along with the Landys. The white dccd quaife low range model seems to struggle more than I expected. A trick I learned with the torque biasing diffs (quaife, torsen etc) is all wheels need resistance to bias the torque. Rav4 boys tug the handbrake on a little to resist the spinning wheel so if you drag the brake it'll keep drive to all wheels. Tricky with a clutch also I know but something to consider. Super cool trip and beautiful countryside 😊

Great Video, I bush bashed a 2000 forester round Australia for years. I just had all terrain tyres and lifted springs. I am not sure if the Aussie models are different spec, but in the non-turbo we had low range and I am not sure if the diff's are different but I never had it spinning a single wheel like that, even with only two wheels on the ground, it was always like it had lsd's in all 3 diffs. One of my greatest pleasures was always showing up the "proper" 4wd's in the tough stuff, the short and narrow wheel base lets you stay out of the deep tyre ruts and choose any line you like. Keep up the good work and enjoy that Subi. P.s. start saving now for driveshafts as you're going to kill cv's fairly quickly, especially with a lift.

Vincent Windels Sorry, I didn't mean it never spun the wheels at all, I spun them plenty, but those are spinning one wheel and losing drive, maybe just too hard on the throttle. I never spun a single wheel that hard and lost drive, but I did kill the viscous centre diff after a while. I had the 1981 leone 1.8 wagon, with big wheels and a lift and that was a locked driveline in low 4, I had two of the 1990 L-series wagons and they were good, but nothing like the Leone, and the forrester was kinda in between. ( A Leone is a station wagon of the Brumby or Brat ute.) Anyway keep on having fun.

I have an outback and that has open diffs. Because of the viscous hub you can still power out with one wheel in the air because it will transfer drive to the back or front. If you have two wheels in the air then your in trouble. In most cases you can roll back and get three back on the ground and still push through. A locking rear diff would be good if you can get one.

I think forester beats landrover coz you just can't drive landi on normal road like a normal car going up to 160 km/h on tarmac plus fuel consumption is much lover and parts cheaper. Your crew are a courageous for taking on such difficult trails with vehicles that predominantly have open differentials. I'm assuming the Foresters with open differentials at the front and back are to eventually get clutch-type limited slip differentials? Subaru vehicles with VDC can make it up those obstacles easier as the traction control transfers torque to the wheel with grip when one side is slipping.

ALNSM OVERLAND - If you encounter prolonged downhill braking (where engine braking in lower gears proves too weak to keep vehicle speed safely low), you may also want to consider upgrading the brake pads and brake fluid. Stock, lower consumer-grade brake pads have a maximum operating temperature of about 300 degrees Celsius. You may want to consider searching for brake pads that work safely to at least 400-600 degrees Celsius, perhaps even more if you also drive very fast on paved winding roads. I have taken my Subaru XV (Crosstrek) many places, and cheap consumer-grade brake pads have proven to be both insufficient and unsafe for off-road use as well as fast winding road driving. I would recommend looking at the Ferodo DS2500 brake pad compound as a baseline, as it is safe to use even when cold, has a lower friction rating ideal for slippery surfaces such as found in off-road driving, and has a reasonable maximum operating temperature of 500 degrees Celsius, sufficient for anything except for extreme brake use such as done in rally racing type of driving.

  • @ALNSMOVERLAND

Man I do not miss abusing the clutch to get over obstacles. Most of us in the US use Automatic gearboxes because of the lower gearing and being able to load up the torque converter to get over obstacles. Dual range gearboxes from Subaru are rare here in the US.
