In today's video I share my experience on what things to look out for when buying your Subaru Impreza WRX STI. Many of these tips have been learnt the hard way, and on my 3rd attempt I have finally bought a Subaru worth holding on to. If you are thinking of buying a Subaru Impreza be sure to watch this buyers guide!

Take this list with you to check out the car: 1. check for rust on arches above wheels (move rubber cover) 2. check for burning oil, make sure engine is cool and hasn't been warmed up by salesman, start car and watch rear exhaust 3. check every panel for damage or poor repairs 4. check car for mismatched paint or overspray 5. listen while engine is running for knocking sound (important) 6. check if warning lights have been tampered (when car starts they should all flash for a bulb check) 7. make sure AC works 8. check the feel of the gearbox 9. check leaking tail light seals 10. check that windows seals are not leaking

Thank you ,this is much simpler and organised than my list ,people may think its funny to write this down but you need to be firm when buying a car or you'll end up buying a broken car .

Its pretty sad that the regular 5-speed can fail even with stock power imprezas. 150+ hp and you need the sti 6-speed.

You forgot a very important item on subarus. Open the coolent reservoir, start the engine and check for bubbles forming. It means headgaket blown...

Makes life easier for when I get my Subaru 👍
i did not know any thing about subaru = i got so excited when i saw a turbo forester and just brought it $6,400 cash aussie dollars = fixed all the worn out bits with top quality after market parts = 6 years later still have it ! changed everything ! =45k
First thing I do is open the coolant compartiment , start the engine and see if bubbles appear in the liquid, if isit does it means your headgaskets are blown. Second thing is check for noises and third thing to take the car on a lift to see underneat it.
Man I feel for you but I also went through some of these hard lessons when I started buying and owning cars etc Owned over 30 cars over the years and 5 or 6 of them I got screwed unfortunately But I blame myself for looking over them and I learnt my lesson

We live and learn, most of the time we can spot these things before buying but we will make mistakes and find that experience doesn’t come cheap 🤣
Great tutorial video! Sorry to hear you had a hard way learning. This black one looks mint! Good luck with it and stay safe :)
Great Video, Looks like you have learnt from your mistakes and shared all with us to make it right . Cheers mate
I just wanted to thank you for taking the time and sharing your experience with everyone, you did narrow down things as bullet points for actually buying any car. although i did see your video by mistake and I did change too many cars but hopefully my comment will pass it for more people to learn how to check new cars. All the best
Thanks. I'll make sure to look for all of these things when I go to buy a WRX.
solid and specific suggestions! Nice work
Thanks for this video! Really helpful and appreciated!
Your a good man sir!! Thank you for making this video!!
Awesome video, I’m looking to get a 2000 gf8 very soon!
Great list mate I’m just looking at buying a hatchback wrx probably 2005 to 2007 version so good to know all this 👍
you're a good dude my man! thanks for this. 😊
Thanks for the great advice. And it also makes me want to eat an Im-pretzel while I drive my Im-pretza ! 😅
Check front windows don’t roll up too high. Check all 4 wheels/tyres, any mis match can mean the owner has cheeped out in that area, and maybe more. Check all the brake pads and disks, if some have meat on the pads and others have been worn down that can mean sticking pistons… and calliper rebuilds can be expensive, new callipers are around £300. All said and done, best car i have ever owned and drives amazing.
Super helpful thank you
Damn dude. Thank you very much for the video.
Very good review 👍
Great job, thanks!
Amazing tutorial! And yes, the best thing is to see the car with some friends, that helps a lot.
Thank you bro…. Appreciate
Looking to get one soon. Thank you for the vid
Great advise
Ok so I'm going to be firm but fair . This video would help to by any car as all these points are essential to check for . As a criticism I'd of liked to listen to any of the common faults pertaining to this model but otherwise a good video . Thanks
One of the most useful vids to buy a WRX, thank you so much! Going to buy mine tomorrow, wish me luck!

@@aryakohandani8248 hey man, just saw this. it's been almost a year and it's been wonderful, the car runs awesome. It had some problems like tires nearly dead, bad battery, not functioning sunroof or bad stereo system, but engine and overall condition was pretty good. It has given me almost no issues apart from repairing the AC condenser, I religiously maintain it and in return the car behaves well!

To that engine light, when i bought my firt 1.8t i didnt noticed that light is not on in first position, onec i had to calibrate cluster i find out that it was masked with duck tape and on vcds it show 15 fault codes only for engine, i knew i fucked up🤣
Brilliant video, I have the opportunity to buy a 2007 WRX, (going to look at it this weekend) and this list will be a massive help.

@@kevinskelton7 it's a place close to me in cleakheaton, went to look at it today and the only thing wrong with it from this list was the rear tail light seal, it had a bit of white smoke, but that was after starting it from cold and it just looked like normal exhaust smoke.

i been looking into subaru’s for a while now and came across a good priced impreza 2.5i with 89k going to schedule an appointment to see and thanks to your video ik what to look out for appreciate it! but ive also been wondering roughly on average how much miles could you put on these if you keep up with maintenance

i’m so late to reply to this, but watch out for the 2.5 engines, they are notoriously less reliable than the 2.0!!
You are a subaru God 🙏 thank you so much
For the age and mileage you did good on this car. Must have taken you a while to find it. Congrats!
Hey you seem like a good guy with heart and without his ego all involved. Can you tell me what feul I should be using for an old 2006 Impreza RS? Never had a car with such feul concerns before, and everyone says something different
@TerriblyIronic9

If you haven't already solved the problem. Look up your specific model's manual online and it should tell you in there.
99% of the time, the problem with the ac not working is that the O rings will crack over time, causing a leak. This should not be an expensive repair. There are usually only two of them and the seals costs pennies!.....Just thought I'd throw that in from my own personal experience.
9:47 made me cringe lmao, good review thanks for sharing your experiences.
How do you check the bonnet for any anomaly
Is the rust like a really bad thing I’m looking at one and I know it has rust mainly on side skirts from what I see from the pictures but I’m also 17 so I don’t have a ton of money to buy a perfect one (hopefully someone smart sees this)
Wow. You did not mention the head gasket issues. Here in the States, the first question is...did you replace the HG? If not...price is going down.
Alot of the issues you mention only really appear on the cheaper end of the scale of the market. on the 2.5 Ringland and headgasket failure are pure pot luck if and when they fail. You could buy one thats totaly fine and the next week it lets go. 2.0 is alot less prone to failure, however most are now getting on milage wise. Tis a shame as the 2.5 is a great engine when built right.

@@John-es3qc technically, you are right. One should favor buying a post 2018 Subaru's because they have better semi-closed deck engine blocks with reworked crevices and gaskets.
Thoughts on a same car 154k on body, engine replaced 2 years ago by subaru short block..asking 18k. I own a 2020 wrx so I am unfamiliar on pricing for these older style STI's.. I want to offer a realistic number but I do not want to low ball the hell out of this guy. I know itll need a ton of work as i could see from pics, but this would be a daily/project as i am moving onto a 2023 supra next year once it arrives...thanks!!

Alot of these burn oil cuz of the turbos,if you run it hard then shut it off it burns the oil in the turbos jus a little bit. Do this on the daily and it adds up

25k euros? That's not what this guide is for and you should know that. 99% of impreza WRX/STI's for sale are well over 150000 km and are 13+ years old, so yes checking the AC is a good idea. If you plan to spend 25k euros get a pre-purchase inspection done or pay a mechanic to come with you with you instead of being a condescending dick on a KZread guide.
