Sub n Up Pedal Comparison

Музыка

I've been a fan of TC Electronic's pedals for many years and have gigged both versions of the sub n up pedal. here are my thoughts on the differences of these "similar" pedals.

the part in the comparison where you show the octave down still ringing even with it turned all the way down completely was very important. Thanks for doing this.

So I’ve messed around with the Tone Print Editor- it’s kind of a pain you can’t do this on the mobile app, but the desktop app is pretty flexible. You can cut out the sub2 octave; the setting you’ve got has that sub2 turned on all the time, as long as the pedal is active. I agree that it’s pretty useless for bass, and pretty irritating that it isn’t mapped to the sub1 knob, but just stuck on all the time. But yeah, you can change it. I wish they had more usable TonePrint defaults and artist settings for bass.

great tips, and yes it would be great if there were more tone print options available for bass but we know we aren't the main target audience most of the time when it comes to pedal development lol. take care,

Hey man, that's a bummer. I was just looking into getting the mini sub. Have you checked settings in the toneprint editor? With other tc minis you're usually able to adjust how the pots react and could take the sub octave out. Anyway, thanks for posting this!

OGguitar it’s still a good pedal. But I just found that it didn’t do what I wanted using the same tone print setting as the larger version. I actually have not checked out the tone print editor. It’s something I never got around to doing. Maybe that’s a way to improve the settings to more my taste. Thank you for the suggestion. 👍

I know this is an old comment, but I think the mini still has 2 octaves down, it just doesn't have the knob. Maybe their is a tone print where you can cut the 2nd octave. Idk, I don't actually have the pedal, I'm just repeating something I read.

I feel like you could fix this in the toneprint editor. I was disappointed in the spectracomp until I saw how complex it was in the editor

a perhaps so. I never had the desire to go and mess with the tone print editor really. I usually found things I liked and used them. This was the only pedal where none of the time prints really sounded good to me. If you do end up using the editor on this pedal let me know what you discover I’d be curious if it’s just some weird setting “inside” the pedal or something.

@@ShawnCav I actually don't own a sub/up (I have an OC-3 I'm thinking about replacing which is how I ended up on this video). But I would strongly recommend finding a USB cable and plugging yours in. The Spectracomp is actually a parametric multiband compressor with more settings than just about any VST compressor I've ever seen

a that pedal has since this video been sold. I kept my larger sub n up though. I use an OC-2 live and yes the spectracomp is a fantastic compressor. It’s a permanent part of my board.

I bought the mini for my Bass. I could not have been more disappointed. I tried out all the tone prints. None of them had a usable octave below. Just total useless mud with reverb on it so it seemed. No way I could use any of those sounds in a live situation. The closest patch was the Cody Wright patch but even that had a terrible octave below and on a lot of the tone prints you can't even get rid of the mud by turning the sub off completely. For me total waste of money . The worst pedal I have ever owned

You'll have to create a custom toneprint with the editor. For that you can use a template.

@@MrClassicmetal The company should really release some usable toneprints for that pedal. I don't want to have to go fiddle with the editor.

@@gimmeagig And I ordered one yesterday, because of some other good reviews on other channels. So by default the lower octave is always on? And that's the case with all current toneprints? Another pedal that I have is a TC Electronic HyperDrive Mini compressor, which uses the same principle. And I do understand your point of view; it can be quite overwhelming to edit a toneprint, due to the enormous list of options.
