But... 16:15 - Upkeep phase should come before the mythos phase. 19:30 - If this is your upkeep phase, Matt misses getting his supply. 23:00 - You take a 4th action... but at least you caught yourselves on this one, so I'll let it slide this once. 24:40 - Taking the mythos phase before the upkeep phase again! 31:50 - Doom goes on the agenda card before you draw from the encounter deck. 33:20 - Forbidden Knowledge gives supplies, not clues. 33:55 - ...and you can only use Forbidden Knowledge's ability once per turn. 34:55 - Taking the mythos phase before the upkeep phase again! This ain't no Magic... "untap and draw" happens at the *end* of the round! 36:25 - Matt's combat value is six, not five (4 base, plus 1 from Beat Cop, plus 1 from Vicious Blow) 37:55 - Matt misses getting a second clue from the location via Roland's ability. 38:50 - Ghoul Priest spawns in the Hallway, not the Parlor. 50:30 - Ice Ghoul should have gone onto your Victory Display after being defeated (not your discard pile). You can't fight him twice. It's a wonder that game nights at my house aren't all that popular.

I'd love game nights with you. Staying on top of the rules is important.

Defeating the Icy Ghoul (and the one that spawns in the attic) would put it in the victory display, so it actually shouldn't have been shuffled back into the deck and redrawn. If it was still in the deck at that point, it would spawn in the cellar anyways.

Haha I laughed so hard when they pointed that out.

Despite the numerous triggers & sequences you need to keep track of, this game is a blast. The Campaign Mode is particularly well made.

So I had to look up Garth Marenghi after this episode. I've spent the last 3 hours watching Darkplace episodes. Thank you for the gift you have given me.

You guys are brilliant. I got into board games very recently myself, January 16, and there really isn't anything better. You guys are now my favourite channel on KZread.

Mistakes I've noticed: 3:55 Magnifying glass is fast and doesn't use an action to put in play (rectified at 5:06) 4:55 Chaos token not returned to the bag 7:15 Should have put some tokens on that Shriveling card for "uses" (rectified 21:39) 8:08 This game is not harder with more players obviously 13:00 Not a mistake per se, but it's usually better to place locations so they topologically make sense and the connections are more obvious; e.g. hallway in the center, attic on top, cellar on bottom, parlor on the same level as hallway 16:22 Not drawn cards and resources (rectified 19:30, although Matt I suspect still didn't grab a resource) 23:30 Used four actions instead of three (first was shrivel, second investigate, third played Flames, fourth played Light) - caught by Q&M later on, alert notice at 24:00 24:44 Again didn't draw cards and resources (rectified 25:30) 30:00 Did they just skip the Mythos phase altogether? 31:00 Now Quinns skips his turn too, so it all adds up basically to Matt getting an extra turn 33:15 (THE BIG ONE) Used Forbidden Knowledge to gain clues even though it only provides resources (thanks @Ozzar101); the mistake gets further compounded when Quinns takes two clues for two horror, not even exhausting the card 34:50 Forgot to discard Dissonant voices (rectified around 35:35, probably in an edit) 34:55 Possibly skipped the card and resource drawing, might have been an edit though 37:55 Should have gotten two clues, one through Roland's basic ability, the other due to Evidence 38:00 Should have drawn cards and resources and THEN commit clues 38:52 (THE HUMONGOUS ONE) Ghoul Priest spawns in the Hallway, not in the Parlor 44:25 Exhausted enemies do not engage (but Quinns probably just forgot to mention that it will happen after Matt's turn) 49:53 Forgot to draw cards and resources (again, might have happened in an edit) 50:35 That joke 52:15 Played a willpower card for a strength test

Regarding magnifying glass, doesn't 'fast' just means it can be put in play without spending an action? Actually investigating with it would still cost the one action per investigation, I believe.

Also, and possibly the biggest deal of all aside from the Ghoul Priest mistake, they used Forbidden Knowledge to give them clues (@ 33:15) when Forbidden Knowledge only gives resources. It's a pretty colossal error considering they were really struggling to get clues at that point in the scenario.

Oh no. 3 short games for almost 50 euro game (which you Will buy 2 cores in the end anyway). Game can be fun, but for sure you dont get your money out of it.

Forbidden Knowledge allows you to take Resources, not Clues! You also need to exhaust Forbidden Knowledge. So what Quinns did was double illegal.

33:22 I thought that forbidden knowledge grants you supplies only not the clues?

Very fun to watch this in 2024 and compare the production of SU&SD videos of current date :). Great game actually. Me and my friends have been playing this game every week for more than a year now and IMHO it is the best board game ever made. A bit costly but worth every penny.

Props for bringing up the Clarissa Explains it All reference.

Quinns I would love to see a video of you deck building with the net runner starter box. talk about why you did what then maybe play a game. I've bought it already but don't know where to start!!!

Love how in the review they say that the game does not really allow for an alpha gamer and so far 10 minutes in, it has been nothing but Quinn telling Matt what to do. :(

I've got a problem in the first scenario(the gathering). During the barrier phase, we need 6 clues to advance but there's only 4 clues with the revealing of the 2 rooms we can go. We are a bit confused, my roomate and I.

Don't forget that the little investigator icon next to each room's clue count means "multiplied by the number of investigators". So e.g. the attic should have 4 clues for a two-investigator game: lcg-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/ahlcg/AHC01_113b.jpg

I wish I could see more detail so I knew what you were doing. I don't get how on the first turn placing cards from your hand to the table was considered three actions, etc.

When I say Christmas you think: "Dread? :D"

The magnifying glass has "Fast", so it doesn't cost an action to bring it out... in fact you have done a lot of mistakes. 😉 But at least you're also having a lot of fun. And it is indeed a great game!

The mere mention of Darkplace made me donate, after having sponged for far too long. Such good memories of chancing upon Darkplace when it was first on (maybe on E4?), high and with friends from college. Ah good times. Love you guys. I'm quite drunk.

What does "sponged" mean?

I own it. This game is brilliant. I think if you like collectible card games and you like the theme it should be a no brainer since the design itself is really fun. Though if you already went all in on Mansions of Madness (also by FFG in the same theme) I can see it feeling a bit redundant.

The ghoul priest pooped on me and my sister too. I feel you.

I'm a bit late to the party I know but, on Matts first turn when he pulled the 2nd chaos token from the bag he hadn't replaced the one he pulled before. Is that a mistake or am I playing wrong?

The chaos token should definitely be replaced before drawing another

Ben Foster They fixed that. Unlike the Ally Agnes's pilot played, which was supposed to come into play with a *DOOM* token....

You know, you've kind of ruined all of Lovecraft for me forever, because now I'm just perpetually imagining it as Clarissa Explains it All and everything is just rather chill and nice like I remember the show being back when I was like, 10. Evil Shoggoth coming to devour everyone? Sam just climbs up the ladder into the room and everything works out. I'm unsure whether I'm unhappy or not with this. I think it might actually have made Lovecraft better.

Oh my you fudged the turn/round sequences and ghoul spawn at the end so badly.

I could swere I've seen that opener somewhere else. This was back when Matt was playing an idiot. Well, maybe if you'd gotten her name right. Anyway, in my mind, she has a thick Lithuanian accent.

Hi, sorry this is 2years later; my girlfriend & I were just able to play AH: LCG all the way through and I returned to this video no longer fearing spoilers. I was able to identify "With Ladybird-" in the first line, and "Anything is poss-" in the second line. Did a bit of searching and just a single website exists with photos of the mug. It says "With Ladybird Tea in Claw, Anything is Possibles." And yes it includes the 'S' at the end, strangely enough. It's also signed by an "Alek" with the last name being indecipherable. There's also mention on the site of it being a give-away trade mug.. essentially an ad via merchandise.

This game is way too complicated & difficult. I felt exhausted after playing just one scenario.

BUT WHERE IS HARVEY WALTERS?

You properly helped me decide that I am not interested in this game. Thanks for another excellent video.

JEGranberg I've played it multiple times and it's always fun. You can adjust the difficulty and switch between 5 characters to run the scenarios, it still hasn't gotten old for me. Plus, when you get a few buddies over, and get some drinks going, it's just a ton of fun, especially when you have a bag draw from the chaos bag go on a tirade of anger :P

Agreed, i've played the first scenario 4 times already cos each of them, teaching a new person about the game and I still have a lot of fun with it.

anxietydown It's much better, trust me. Much more challenging, way more thematic, way more involving due to choices that impact the rest of the campaign. This and the new version of Mansions of Madness are just amazing and fully remove one of the main problems people had with games like Eldritch Horror and Elder Sign: the random nature of encountering random shit in random places.

anxietydown I'd give Arkham Horror card game a try if possible, perhaps at a local board game cafe or store. It really is a lot of fun, the randomness of previous eldritch games is there in the form of the chaos bag (my buddy and I lost the game at a key moment because he drew the insta-fail token), and it has a great rpg feeling to it, particularly in how your choices, actions, successes and failures have to be recorded and referenced in future scenarios in the campaign. It really is a blast and feels really tight, mechanically, when playing. Can't recommend it enough.

It's a more meaty game than Elder Sign. Elder Sign is for a quick dice rolling game. Arkham Horror the board game is for an long all night experience. Eldritch Horror is for a shorter more streamlined Arkham Horror experience. Mansions of Madness is for mini fans. Arkham Horror the card game is for collectible card game fans. FFG has made an Arkham Files game for all types of gamers. Not all of them will be for all gamers. If you like the theme FFG has allowed you to pick your poison.

If I saw correctly, there was also error when Quin tried to parley with Lyta, while Ghoul priest was engaged. If you do any other action than attack or evade while you are engaged, enemy gets attack of opportunity. Anyway, I liked the video.

Parley doesn't trigger an attack of opportunity. (bottom of page 24).

42:20, when the Ghoul Priest engaged with you, doing the Parley action actually triggered an attack of opportunity, applying the Ghoul Priest's damage and horror.

Per the rules, Parlay is one of the 4 actions that *does not* trigger an attack of opportunity.

The only downside to this one is that you need ANOTHER base game to properly make a custom deck, and also to play with four people. For shame, F.F.G. Caveat emptor.

I'm so jealous of this gay couple. I'd love to live with someone who is into board games like me. You guys have an awesome life
