Executed perfectly. Todd on the drums, he is one of the greatest drummers of all time. Tommy Shaw is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. The whole band is just epic.

@@MSUSpartanFootball I agree John was an awesome drum player, but he was drunk most of the time. Todd, on the other hand, is completely opposite. both epic musicians. Since Neil Peart died, Todd has taken over the reins.

He was absolutely what Styx's music needed... Dennis lovingly called him their "platinum drummer" because he was on all their greatest albums and helped make them what they were - Masterpieces that stood the test of time....

DeYoung had his own style, I didn't think there could be anyone to replace him with that would really work right - but this guy is really good. Such a talented and underrated band.

DDY was a prima donna.

One of the most creative and musically solid bands ever to come out of the 70's. Thier music is magical, and talent amongst them unsurpassed.

For not being a "Hair Band" they all have great hair. Man they are good! Such a great tune, so well played live.

Living. American. Legends. There's nothing more to say. Long may they wave!

Amazing the slow build to the crescendo i miss this music. Bands like this will never be again. I am so glad i was here for it in the 60's 70's and early 80's after that it was gone.

The 15 year old boy listening to Aku Aku by Styx on headphones in his room was me. For me, I was the 15 year old kid was listening to Paradise Theater on headphones in my room. Of course, I had listened to every Styx album since Grand Illusion on headphones in my room.

First, Pieces of Eight may be the most underrated rock album of all time. Second, this video clip has two great songs. Pieces of Eight is just so typical Styx, in the form of Equinox, Grand Illusion, and Paradise Theatre. It is so Dennis DeYoung. But Aku Aku, that is something special. It is like a Pink Floyd song. I would love a 10 minute extended version. It is so beautiful.

I swear they're better now than when the album came out.. what a great legendary band..

I played this Album over and over and in the car with my 8 track. I loved the cover of the 8 track. Brings back lots of memories.

I'm a fanatic fans of Styx Since 1979, I wish the new group of STYX can do a tour concert in Manila Philippines and for sure more Filipinos like your group.

All those hit songs on Pieces Of Eight and the instrumental piece Aku-Aku is still my favorite.

Aku-Aku doesn’t get a lot of respect but I’ve always liked it, a perfect outro to the Pieces of Eight song and album.

Beautiful music! The 70’s!

I was prob the only kid back in 77 who loved Aku Aku as much if not more than the other killer songs on this album... this music was my intro to the more progressive side of rock as a preteen and these guys were well ahead of their time.. underrated and unbelieveably awesome. Bravo!.

Yea, I was the only one on my block that absolutely loved Styx. Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight were just masterpieces. I lived 10 miles away from this show. They played the entire Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight albums back to back. I sure wish I would've gone. I've seen them many times but this concert would've been extra special for me.

This is STYX enough for me! The bands heart and soul are still here!

sabbathtribute ~ He's great seeing him live in concert too. Wonderful showmanship & a lot of energy. I've seen him 4 times with Styx. He really knows how to truly entertain without his ego getting in the way. And Styx can now really rock out with out the iky sweet *Babe* junk.

They do throw it in their set list when they do shows in the winter and it's just them and they don't have to share the time. Lawrence Gowan said it's his favorite Styx song and he loves to play it so they do it when they can.

Believe me I know what you mean. This is one of my most favorite albums ever. When I was a teen in the late 70's early 80's I listened to it over and over. Pieces of Eight /Aku Aku just gives me chills always. I so wish I had seen this show. They are amazing.

Its amazing how James Young reminds me of John Lodge, and Tommy Shaw, Justin Hayward of the moody blues.

One of their more haunting pieces of music...beautiful. Should have been dressed in Middle Ages dress for this album...ha

Combine this with "Castle Walls" and it stands as proof that Styx is probably the greatest band of all time.

Both Dennis DeYoung songs and yes Styx was one of the best bands when he was in it.

We saw this show in 2009 in Charleston SC!!! WHAT a show! They did a CRAZY version of I am the Walrus, way better than the Beatles! We also saw Dennis DeYoung that year, not such a great show. I saw their Crystal Ball, Grand Illusion & Pieces of 8 concerts too (yeah, I'm 60 now).See them while or if you can, I always do!!!

I have to say. I’ve seen every band I think now. Many of the largest and best in the seventies. But I feel like a fool now. I think this band could have changed my destiny if I had discovered them and THEir full albums! In the seventies. Well I hope it’s not too late.

5:39 is some of the saddest, yet most beautiful music ever written

The best music came out of the 80s it’s really too bad that the younger generations missed out on that they’ll never know how wonderful it was and how many wonderful bands there were suck as Styx, Inxs A-Ha I love Ed the pieces of eight album and song it was the bomb

So astounding, wish I could go back to then. Today a bit of disappointment!!!!

John will always be missed. I interviewed Chuck numerous times. He was a class act, and shared many stories.

Tommy Shaw is from my old stomping grounds, Niles, Buchanan, Michigan. I remember him playing in St. Joseph at the Shadowland ball room! He was just starting his new curerier and he was awesome back then and awesome now!! Thanks for the memories Tommy!! The Shadowland has been gone for many of years now, we don't even have a Vaneison festival anymore because one person is selfish and greedy that he's wasn't getting a piece of that green paper pie.thanks for nothing Bob Warren. I hope your happy with yourself. I also hope you have a hard time sleeping at night...

Styx The River Of Hell Flowing Underneath Chicago....

Saw them in a stadium tour for grand allusion tour then saw them again years later at a small more personal venue much better at the the smaller one you could really hear the perfection of there music excellent show

According to Chuck Panozzo, it was him and JY that made that decision. Tommy didn't even get a vote. It was a sound decision though, everyone in the band gets along well now and musically they have never been better.

Maybe Dennis and his wife Suzanne shouldn't have tried - and actually succeded for a while- in stealing the Panozzo twins' share of the profits which had always been sacred as the founders of the band. When Tommy joined the band it was Dennis himself who told Tommy that the Panozzo's get a 5th of everything, and Tommy being a decent human being reasoned that his songs would never have made a penny if he hadn't joined a band on the verge of superstardom. So, when Dennis went back on that, Tommy was understandably pissed. Tommy stood up for his pals, one suffering from AIDS and the other from alcoholism, while Dennis was trying to steal their share. Get your facts straight. DeYoung was, according to everyone who ever dealt with him, a total asshole. Great singer, writer and performer, but too much of an asshole to be in this band anymore. It was never about Kilroy or Mr. Roboto. It ws about the DeYoung's power grab behind the scenes.

Dennis what taking the band in a different direction. I’m glad he’s gone the music he was writing was NOT Styx. JY and Chucky made the right decision

It's funny that the vocals these guys can do live at this age is only accessible via autotune to 90% of current 'artists' :)

Been a Styx fan for forty years now my friend, as although this is a very good performance, they're actually using sequenced, vocal-support due the fact that JY, never a good singer to begin with, has no voice at all; Larry Gowen does a great job here, and Tommy is always aces, but I can tell you since I know their sound engineer that they do use backing, vocal tracks to " sweeten " the harmonies. Listen...you can here it.

He's had a long career in Canada, and still does his own thing here at home. He's such a great performer.

Good Lord this makes me miss DDY so much. Great job to Lawrence though. Tommy and JY always top notch! Who is that drummer? New to the band? JK, Todd, you're amazing! First saw you on the RTP tour. Ricky great on bass as well and vocals! Stellar performance guys

DDY is the man and made Styx the band and Lawrence is ok but can't hit the notes that DDY could and he still can and sounds better today then 30 years ago.. Saw DDY live a month back and he and his band really sounded great...

Durian Durian Unless you believe the DDY BS......even through simple observation, anyone w/eyes could see that DDY was a total prima donna. Towards the mid-latter part of the group’s career, DDY’s unwelcome influence materially damaged their success and previous hard-won R&R cred.

just an FYI, D. DeYoungs EGO forced him out. He wanted the band to go in his idea of direction, allads and show, and EVERYBODY else want to steer toward and keep with the ROCK side of things. He was NOT a TEAM player by all accounts I can find. It would have been very nice if he were still with STYX, However they have grown into or morphed, CHRYSILAS (ed), into a band of their own since 1998. Just my opinion though so take it as you will.

Such an improvement from the original. Love it!
