    1:20 I'm sick of seeing bikers haul ass and weave through slow traffic and split lanes, then being pissed and surprised when not every car driver bows down in reverence to everything the bikers want to do. If you didn't haul ass between lanes and instead rode like any other cautious normal participant in the flow and speed of traffic, people wouldn't cut you off nearly as often. I promise. Bikers insist on whizzing past the normal flow because they think two wheels make them special. Maybe you should slow down a little bit and try cautiously working around everyone else who's bigger than you, instead of expecting all of them to roll out the red carpet and let you dart through every pin hole you see. You'd have a much less stressful and safer ride that way (albeit a little bit slower - sorry). I ride too btw. I never have these problems because I just chill and go with the flow while keeping safe distances and expecting people to not notice me. I have found that if you make space and give people time to notice you, they will often notice you.

    "Enter the white van man" Who is obviously sat in the drivers seat of his van, parked too close tot he vehicle in front to be able to turn out of the space... yet you still decided to back your bike right up to him, and park it so that he had no idea you were behind him (by parking in line with the kerb, but central to the space). What did you expect to happen? He'd literally just watched someone pull out from that space behind him and had no reason to believe it wasn't empty.

    Gotta agree with you. With the best will in the world, by glancing in the mirrors, that bike would have been invisible. I probably would have gotten out and done a quick check before reversing, but also, probably not! Both parties shouldn't have got so angry so quickly though - accidents happen. It wasn't like the van driver went out his way to reverse into the bike...

    come on now, it's a parking space, everyone should always expect someone to be in a parking space to say they shouldn't be is a bit silly. Just like blaming the fact his van has no windows... OK did the biker make you buy that van? It's your choice to buy one without windows so you need to be extra careful no one made you buy that van. You shouldn't just blindly reverse and then to get so aggressive as well. It's not like the biker just pulled behind him really close on some random road, it was a parking space.

    "it's common for other cars to get behind an emergency vehicle" yeah, it's called "retaking the space you just made for the emergency vehicle", which you had to do thanks to the "move over" law... and the douche on the bike that's closely following the emergency vehicle is, at the very least, guilty of reckless driving. You just don't filter behind emergency vehicles because you KNOW that the vehicles that just moved out of the way for the vehicle (which has a right to get them to move over to pass them, you don't) will be pulling back into their space on the road. Probably also worth remembering that filtering doesn't give you "right of way", you still have to ensure that each pass is safe and legal to complete before doing it.

  • @the_mad_ratter

    @the_mad_ratter

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@GeminiMoto I'm fully aware of it';s meaning, across multiple states and countries in fact. Following an emergency vehicle that is clearing a path with blues and twos is reckless, you are endangering yourself and other road users whoa re not expecting another vehicle to be following a lit emergency vehicle, without lights or sirens to warn of its presence. The cars pulling to the side to allow the emergency vehicle through are expecting to return to the position in the lane they previously occupied once the emergency vehicle has passed. People have been prosecuted for reckless driving due to following emergency vehicles such as ambulances in the UK, Germany, and the United States that I can find in a quick google search.

  • @the_mad_ratter

    @the_mad_ratter

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@culcune It's a "grey area" here too - it's defined in as much as our guidance the Highway code (not law...) says that drivers should look out for motorcyclists filtering in one rule. "211 It is often difficult to see motorcyclists and cyclists, especially when they are coming up from behind, coming out of junctions, at roundabouts, overtaking you or filtering through traffic..." What a lot of riders don't understand is that certain things they do WHILST filtering are illegal - overtaking on a double white line, passing the lead vehicle in a queue/at traffic lights, overtaking through a junction etc - all covered in the Road Traffic Act or other road rules, but because "filtering" is legal, most assume that they can filter all the way to the front...which they can't lol

  • @culcune

    @culcune

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@the_mad_ratter thanks for that perspective. It sums up California as well! I recently moved away from California, but the rule was similar to 211. They leave it vague, probably on purpose to exonerate the gov't and leave it to civil litigation via insurance companies to clean up the 'mess'! Speaking of UK highway codes, I posted a question above in the clip involving a 'white van parking situation' where a work van backed into a parked cycle. Is it legal or overlooked to park on the sidewalk (where sidewalks are wide like in commercial districts)? Motorcyclists can often get away with it in cities in the US. Just wondering if it is done in UK?

I know no one will care, but I used to teach the BRC and ARC for the MSF, and have been riding for decades. I used to really love this channel, but at least half the videos I see posted here now are by people who have NO BUSINESS riding a motorcycle as they do not have the temperament to operate on safely and will most likely end up a statistic of the negative variety. Mitigate your risk riders! Don't speed up when someone is drifting into your lane and then lay on your horn/rev your engine. Slow down and let them over. WHO CARES? Bikes are too narrow to see from wing mirrors especially when they are parked so close to the van so he was a fool to do it. That being said that driver was an absolute prick reacting the way he did and from what I see deserved a slap . True, dumb to park RIGHT behind the van. That said, if you cannot see where your vehicle is moving, you simply should NOT move. Another small car could have perfectly legally parked in that spot. And if a pedestrian or child happened to be walking between the van and parked car? The van driver simply would have backed up without having ANY ability to see and could have crushed someone. If you cannot see where you are driving, you simply SHOULD NOT MOVE! The driver of the moving vehicle has the responsibility to not run into anything. Vans like that should have mandated back-up cameras. Any responsible person driving a van with MASSIVE blind spot should either have a spotter behind the vehicle, or NEVER back up. In the US, UPS drivers are taught (or were) to NEVER get in a situation where you have to back up. Only forward, the direction you can actually see. And this is exactly why.

    yeah seems like he knew this would happen, he was like yeah let me park behind this van with no rearview, he was just asking for it at that point.

    If the guy on the bike had parked like you're supposed to park, the guy in the van probably could've seen him. Instead, he parked in parallel behind the van probably completely hidden from the mirrors. He even states that it happens A LOT, so why the fuck would you set yourself up for it? He absolutely knew this was going to happen and probably hoped for it just for the video of it.
