Stunningly Restored Footage of the Soviet Union's Last Revolution Day Parade (1990)
On 7 Novemeber 1990, ITN filmed what was to be the last October Revolution Day parade in Moscow's Red Square, held to commemorate the 1917 October Revolution - also known as the Bolshevik Revolution - that brought Lenin's Communists to power. Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev attended the event along with Boris Yeltsin, the man who would become the first President of the Russian Federation following the collapse of the Soviet Union less than a year later.

Thank you for sharing this rare and historical footage! This is the first time I've seen this unique perspective of the 1990 October Revolution Parade. There is a growing interest in archival footage of the former Warsaw Pact countries, and it will never cease to amaze me how much footage has been buried and is only just now being uploaded to the internet 3 decades later!

Am fighting a strong urge to whistle the USSR anthem, if I knew how to whistle. That reporter had no idea at the time how right he was, as the forces of nationalism would start to spread. American, but a nerd for Soviet and Russian, and Eastern European and Cold War history.

You can't whistle, but you're fascinated with Cold War history and geopolitics? There used to be popular dialogue in film and TV of the 1990s explaining whistling as simply "putting your lips together and blowing."
