Stunning Studio Apartment Makeover On A Budget | Ikea Hacks | The Home Primp

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Studio apartments are daunting - you’ve just got one, open room to sleep in, live in and eat in. How do you make it a functional small space on a budget? In this episode of The Home Primp, Chatelaine Home Editor Alexandra Gater takes a trip to Ikea for some small space furniture ideas and leaves with everything she needs without dropping a ton of cash. Watch as she hacks the $10 Ikea Frack mirror into a wall light, jazzes up the Skogsta stool with chalk paint and makes an entryway organizer out of an Bekvam spice rack.
The trick to creating a living space when your apartment is too small for a couch? Don’t forego the Queen-sized bed - instead, turn your bed into a couch with a few cushions and tons of cozy throws. And one Ikea Kallax shelf is the perfect way to divide this space and even creates a little space for an entryway.
We hope you love these small space ideas as much as we do! Questions or ideas for the Home Primp series? Comment down below or send Alexandra a message on Instagram @alexandragater.

I'm not a designer but I would have loved to see the bed tucked into the alcove to allow for more living space. The brick wall is beautiful so I wouldn't have divided it with an ikea shelf. I would install a thoughtful piece of wall art or even set up the tenant's existing media stuff against this wall. I wanted to see the designer trying to create (or create illusions of) open spaces in such a tight room. Just my take! ❤

It’s basically Urban Outfitters waiting to happen. With a base like that to build off of, Kmart could’ve outfitted this place and it would still look good🤷🏼‍♀️ Most studios “normal” ppl can afford look like the “dad” side of your Mom and Dads shared closet☹️ This vid was not made with real ppl in mind:(

Firstly I am not hating. I am a big fan, but this was not done well at all. too much clutter, everything is up against the wall, no negative wall space to allow the eyes to rest because there is a lot going. Coming from a designer's perspective, thought was put into this but i would have to edit this space because the function seem to get lost with everything going on around it . Creating impact in a smaller space is not always easy but the trick is instead of adding a lot of smaller pieces, bigger is better while creating impact. Ikea is known for storage and function in small spaces as well but that was not executed properly. I hope my opinion was not taken in any way to bash your work but taken as a constructive one. Good work.

One space in the apartment is like boheme/industrial and then she put the green and pink chairs on the other side of the apartment, not blending in with the other stuff what so ever. Just looks childish and off. Plus where is NO storage at all and who wants a table blocking the door and the teeny tiny little plants that doesn't make it better. Oh well, this is just my opinion.

I really like the idea of the special hooks for the entry way, my husband built one like that using an old barrel stave that he stained and had old faucet pieces it is is pretty funky and works perfectly in our garage for umbrellas etc-feel free to use that idea. The specialty gold lighting was really awesome!

Not realistic. (1) foot bed is a wood divider, person has to be very still and not knock off or accidentally kick off the wood divider when sleeping. (2) No closet space. No need for explanation (3) mirror she put is way too high, she could only see half her face? Is she mad or what? (4) she wasted space in what could have been a study nook or closet. (5) You have to walk carefully to make sure you dont knock off all the plants and garbage she put on the floor. (6) that thing to hang jackets, she could have put smaller hooks to hang keys as well? Duh. (7) ship skin? Really?!

The thing that she put up for jackets was not quite level. It was crooked all the time she placed it against the wall. They had a dark pink wall when they were showing it off. I was under the impression she might paint that one wall. Even though it was dark pink and only on one wall it should not make the apt. appear even smaller. She could have painted the flimsy t-shirt holder white, the frame of the mirror could have been painted white, etc.

The space you designed looks so much like my little (10'x10') studio apartment when I was in university! My single bed doubled as a sofa with giant throw pillows during the daytime (my night pillows were stored in boxes under the bed). I had a cool accent chair I purchased on a super sale, an IKEA bookcase, a work desk, a small sink I turned into a kitchenette fitted out with everything but a stove, and beautiful pale green and pink full-length curtains. My colour palette was seriously adhered to even though almost everything was a gift, second hand, or purchased on sale. I even had a key storage because I was always misplacing my keys. Repainting and sewing or crafting stuff was so much fun. As I think about it, some of the items I made or repainted are still in use in the homes of friends and family. If only I'd put that much effort into my studies... lol. That brings back memories. (I wish they'd had KZread back in the days of the dinosaur. I would have had a channel for sure.)

[1:11] "I don't think Carla has space for a side table ... stools like are a great place to put books or water beside your bed." [7:48] really nice stool has been ruined with paint for no reason and a plant shoved on top. Can we just put that plant somewhere sensible? You want to make it look like one big living room, but then you want to conceal the sleeping area. Small places lack storage, so wouldn't you get a bed with drawers instead of specifically "low to the ground" for which a reason was not made clear, then the little cupboard is blocked by the bed, so even that can't be used.

I pretty much did the same with my twin bed in my room so I can be super comfy while I work on my laptop (self-employed). Bonus, you don't need a foot rest since the bed is so long! I think a lot of people who love it just don't bother to comment and move on to the next video. People who don't are the ones who actually decide to leave a comment it seems lol.

I would have put the bed in front of the door (as there looked like there was another door by left of kitchen) with dark out curtains covering it as a back drop left the two windows as is. Found two stools or small tables to double as bed stands and found something to cover the radiator as you only use it a few months out of the year. Made it like a mantel and lowered the mirror and added either plants jewelry or two lights. Put book shelve on brick wall with a fake hanging plant off the side. Put record player in front of short white wall and put a few records in book case in crates on bottom shelf. Left $5 picture on wall, dumped heart sticker. For $70 added a small desk with make up mirror into the nook with a swivel chair. Put table in front of book case with chairs on each side and pendant light over it. Put leather chair to right of mantel, that could be pulled over for seating. Even put a rod across inside top of nook and hung those string lights inside to give it atmosphere and extra storage to the left. There was a closet :17 next to nook I would have hung curtains in front of for privacy.

The only bed option for such a small space is a Murphy bed or a ikea Hemnes that has a couch like shape, tons of storage and also pulls out to a large double ved
