Stunning Gold Find From The Woods!

Ойын-сауық

In this metal detecting episode I will find a beautiful, old item made of solid gold.
The decision to hunt this place came to me, when I got out of the train. I was on my way to a spot located at the opposite direction, when suddenly something told me to switch plans. I questioned my weird decision at the beginning and was even angry at myself for a while.
I already detected parts of this spot two years ago, but back then I just walked through (sideways) with the big 11" coil and a different destination point in mind. I knew that this spot had still some potential, but I didn't come back, until now...
The area was already hunted by other people, before I got there and after. The obvious signs (holes, iron targets on top) were everywhere.
My psychic powers were strong that day. I can feel, when a hunt is going to be "good". In this case something leads me from one target to another.
The metal detecting Gods had a nice combination of finds for me this time. A lead seal started it, soon came the stunning gold find. I thought about 19th century jewelry at first, but when I saw the details, I realized that it must be much older. How old? I'm not an expert, but it "looks" "at least" medieval (to my untrained eye)... Maybe even older - Roman?
The gem is missing at one side. Theoretically I could have taken a bag of soil from the bottom/sides of the hole and try to find it at home. My limited experience (I tried this "technique" several times in the past) taught me, that it's pointless. Until now I was't able to find a missing gem of a bigger size (from rings, or other items).
I guess, if the gem is separated later after the drop, there are still many factors that can influence the position of both items (like roots, boars, worms, moles, humans - and a combination of all during a few hundred or thousands of years).
The Roman coin - I saw the tree and had to go there. A signal appeared right underneath. I think, it was overlooked because of the "difficulty" to get there. Sometimes a little bit of "extra work" pays of.
It was a great hunt (not because of the finds, but because it felt fluent and "just right").
I hope you had a little bit of fun.
Thanks for watching.

your hunts are not only about the tones and the finds, but about your surroundings and the nature that inhabits the sites. I love the close ups of the "friends" you meet along the journey. Your videos are a great enjoyment to me. Glad to see you back out and the shaft is replace. Stunning old gold piece. From a chain of many different gold ornaments strung and given to wealthy young ladies. Our woodpeckers "laugh", and I have one that lives near my home, that I call "chuckles". I loved the German woods. with the mossy clumps and the clean air after a slow rain. you could walk through the woods and not tear up your clothes. I miss it.

Thank you very much for the kind words. I didn't know that it was a woodpecker. Sometimes they scare me a little bit, when they suddenly take off near me (probably scared by my detector). The nature at some of the locations is very beautiful, that's true. I know what you mean... When I was living more to the North, it was difficult to find a place with empty spaces between trees... Have a great day.

Beautiful gold piece not just because it is gold but because it is so old. I love imagining how it got there and who might have worn it. The nails are also a piece of history that could help you build a whole lot of homes, perhaps one of the homes that the young girl that lost the gold pendant lived in.

Wow. Just wow. The blue coating still visible on some parts of the pendant - Romans used it a lot. But the stylization and type of ornaments - I would not attribute it to Romans on the first look. What gives me the most trouble is the gem, I believe they did not cut the gems in this way, but I might be wrong. For this reason, I would say it's medieval.

I believe the gold piece is one of a string of beads connected by links. Note the ring on each end. it was probably a part of a necklace. The blue enamel and the cut of the stone leads me to think it may be Italian mid to late 1800's. I would not think it was much older.

Then again on my normal Settings. When I find something that nice I look for the rest. LoL As a jeweler it is easy to see it was part of a bracelet and 18K. it is old [by the paint] and beautiful. Nice old cut diamond. Your macro Camera has great detail, can I ask what Brand? Great find! Good luck finding the rest! I'll bet there is more hiding in the ground for you!

I might even screen the dirt from the whole and dig deep. See if you can see a bits of leather or maybe a small link your detector might miss.

Thank you for the comment. I can understand your feeling. When I lived in an area without Roman history (and have seen pictures of some finds), I wished the same... Now, in the past years, the Romans "saved" a few of my hunts :). Have a great day. I wish you good luck and many great finds (despite the historical limitations).

Makes me wonder, you were at the top of the hill where you found the button and coin maybe that was a old Roman fort guarding the road

According to the signals, this was already the "hot spot". The amount of iron objects decreases, the higher it goes. I believe, the finds were the result of "mobile" activities. A few Romans visited this place for a short amount of time and "disappeared". This of course is just my assumption. Thanks for watching.

Thank you very much for the complement. I don't have a specific method to find places to hunt. I look at Google Maps (the satellite view) only. I decide where to go when I arrive in the area. Many decisions are spontaneous on my way somewhere else. Often it's just pure coincidence. When I see a "nice looking" spot, I just follow my intuition. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Was it gold? It is odd that your location`s soil is really hard with small rocks in them. That indicate me place is not very old? I can see you have fixed Deus! I am wondering what program do you normally use?

  • @MetalDetecting24

    @MetalDetecting24

Hi, yes it was gold. I think the small rocks don't have much of a meaning in this case. The place must have looked similar back then (except for minor human made changes). I used the following Deus program: G.B.: 63 Disk: -5,4 4-Tones: Tone1: 120HZ Tone2: 200HZ Tone3: 644HZ Tone4: 120HZ Thresh. 1T/2T: -5,4 Thresh. 2T/3T: 03 Thresh. 3T/4T: 99 Sensitivity: 97 Frequency: 30kHz Iron Loudness: 3 Silencer: -1 Audio Response: 4 Loudness : 1 The changes have to be applied from program #6 ("Deep").

Hallo MD24. Unglaublich gute Folge wieder.

I was not convinced at first then noticed the blue isn't painted but inlayed lapis lazuli and its the centre "diamond" seemed at first problematic I had the impression it had painted gold on it but closer inspection of side with out the "diamond" indicates this isn't the case.when you look at the ring at the section Roman diamonds on site I've linked you will see the gold on the stone is quite similar..www.langantiques.com/university/A_History_Of_Diamond_Cutting and stone itself seems ok..i would therefore be inclined to suggest it could will be of the period.so a great find ….id still get it checked out..if not roman then early to mid medieval revival ..great all the same

Hello, I had the same thoughts at first. It looked like a different type of metal from underneath a gilded layer. When I saw the blue color I realized that this might not be the case. Thank you for the link. The method looks very similar. I will try to get more info on it. Have a great day.

Hi, it's the Deus version with "remote control". It's just hanging (out of picture) somewhere on the shoulder strap of my backpack. I also have the headphones (I don't now if it's still the current version), but I never liked using them. They sounded flat and the constant chatter directly to the ear can be very annoying. You also have to keep in mind, that some of the settings can not be adjusted without the remote control. Unless you know someone with the remote control, you could be unable to set some of the parameters. In my opinion it is better to choose the remote control version. If I had to decide again, I would buy a used Deus with the remote, rather than a new one with headphones. Good luck.
