Stunning Campervan Doors Made Easy
This is how we did my van conversion doors, using stretch carpet, stained/dyed and varnished tongue and groove wood, and finished off with rubber trim to give it a really professional-looking finish.
I've done a video on how to join stretch carpet (only do it where you have to though) which you can find here - • How to neatly join 4-w...

Hey everyone, lots of people keep asking for the link for the rubber trim - annoyingly it keeps jumping around different URLs on ebay, but I'll try to keep it up to date as much as I can. I've also started building a webpage for every single item I've used in the entire build, which you can check out here - vanventureswithjodie.notion.site/fdfef29580254c6892f2664151ff9011?v=8e6916db2b564504986000750703b072
Those panels are mint! Thanks for content 👍
Thank you so much, I did one door so far and I love it, i'm excited about he other two doors, I love your family your all brilliant, again hank you.
I love this idea & I'm going to have a go at it. Thank you 😊
I tested silicone and cyanoacrylate on one of the cutouts from my windows. No cleaning no sanding: Silicone peeled of rather easily, superglue left a thing film of rubber. Cleaned panel: Silicone tore before the rubber, superglue same as before. Cleaned and sanded surface: Silicone tore again before the rubber, superglue same as before. Superglue every time, much easier and faster to apply. I used black cyanoacrylate with rubber content from Amazon.
Lovely video, really useful ideas and your Mum and Dad did a great job with your design. P.S. Your Mum is so elegant!
Looks absolutely amazing!! Well done!

These look great on the video and in real life (we saw them at Camp Quirky). In fact we're going to revert our part-done door coverings and copy your method. Thanks for posting in detail again.
Well done, it looks great, will do it the same way!
Excellent video given me some good ideas to follow thank you
using the rubber v stuff is genius!
Great job! I love how your parents help you, their hands are beautiful, your mother looks like a teenager. You are a lucky girl. 😍

They are the best parents! Thanks, we're all super proud of the doors, maybe more so than anything else we've done in the van (so far!)
New to your channel. This is amazing. This is the detail that makes the interior look like a pro build. Very cool!

Thanks, it actually really helps keep the carpet dry as well, if you put it too close to the edges it becomes a sponge in the rain!

Thanks so much, absolutely copy it! We adapted it from several other vans we'd seen, just passing it on in a hopefully helpful way 😊. If you have any questions when you get to your doors feel free to get in touch
I have just started doing my rear doors and didn't use that trim. It looks quite rough when the doors are open. I will definitely be ordering that trim. Thanks for the idea. If you want to cut that hole for the door release just drill an largish hole and use a trim router to follow the metal edge. You van looks really good. I also used those brass cups as I think they look cool on the wood areas.

Oh Jodie, I just love this video. I am stealing this idea. I am a pensioner & have been very poorly but now much better. I have bought a Transit & working on it to make a day van. I got a German Shepherd puppy who I am teaching to be our assistance dog & hopefully a PAT therapy dog & I have started a YT channel & going to have adventures in the van with her. Thanks so much, you are a star, really given me confidence 🥰😊💪👍🌟❤️

Hi, thanks so much for your lovely comment, and good luck with your build! It's a very rewarding project, if a lot of work! I started building my first van not even owning a tool box, let alone knowing how to do any of this, but there's so many resources out there to learn from now, and I've absolutely loved learning all this new stuff to build my dream van ❤️

Great job with the doors. I’ve done something very similar thanks to you. Just out of curiosity, What type of plastic bag did you use to hold the insulation.

Heya, glad the video was helpful! The bags aren't real bags, I just used plastic sheeting folded and taped into pillows
Wow that look's so good! Very impressive. Do you have a link for the rubber from Ebay. Hope to hear from you

Hi! It's moved to a new listing but it's this one - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335237523002
That looks great. I's just wandering what happens to the bare metal areas where you put only the carpet? There's no insulation there therefore these are going to be the coldest places. Won't you have problems with condensation in these areas and won't these become areas where mold can develop?
@vanventureswithjodie
Жыл бұрын
Heya, I used the carpet pretty heavily in my last (smaller) van and had no problems at all. Because the surface texture has changed from metal to fabric the water doesn't condensate on it because its no longer a cold surface. Never did the carpet feel damp or even cold. As long as you're using it in combination with good ventilation it's a brilliant solution to cover the metal.
Love how neat the rubber trim makes it.Can i ask what its actually called as the ebay link you have is now finished and id like to get the same rubber edging thanks.

Thank you! 😊 Search for U shaped rubber trim and you should find it, the one I have is about 10mm wide. You want one where the two ends of the "U" are closed together so it sits flush.
Great job !!! Could you please share the size of the seal - gap, thickness, width. Thank you. P.s. the link doesn't work any more, as the product is not available on eBay at the moment.

Really nice job well done you and mum and dad of corse👍 Don't think you needed to put your plastic bags on your insulation because it's made from plastic bottles so won't retain water

Thanks Andy! You're probably right, but it gives the water less surface area to cling to at least 😅. I'm definitely over cautious with things I'm not 100% sure about
Please were can i buy the rubber trim thanks
In retorspect, would you could you glut the carpet first then the trim after? seems like it would be easier that way, no?

If I did it again I'd do it the same way, I think doing the carpet first would be more complicated

how is the super glue and the rubber trim holding up? Just looking for a good way to finish my door carpeting.

Hi Will, still absolutely solid. If I had to do doors again I'd do them the same way 👍
Where did you get the trim from?
What kind of screws that you used to attach the boards?
@vanventureswithjodie
7 ай бұрын
Heya, I think they are hinge screws, but we just found brass screws that were the right size for the cups and the depth of the wood
This is a beautiful finish. But I'd like to know how / what you are screwing the panels into? I can't see any wood glued to the metal of the van to screw into. Are you screwing into the metal of the van? I've learnt that's a big no no has condensation / moisture does get inside. And I know this for a fact has I just brought a van and they did this. I am in the middle of giving it a big upgrade and after taking all the panels off. There is rust everywhere. This is why now the back doors don't work with the key has all the insulation and panels have trapped the air / moisture in there. The lock is rusted to hell.
@vanventureswithjodie

Hiya, if you go to about 7 minutes in you can see the frames that are glued in to the top sections, the bottom panels are screwed into the metal work. Condensation is a ventilation issue, so far I've had zero condensation
Hi. Do you have a link to the v trim please
