I'm having the same problem. Steps 24,25,26,27 are confusing. I'm sewing this jumpsuit as a birthday gift for my friend. After watching your video, I realized it's not me. I appreciate you sharing it.

Yes. It’s definitely not you. This pattern had me scratching my head for sure. So sweet that you’re sewing it for your friend. I hope the video is helpful and you can find a way to make it work.

What you encountered with the confusing pattern instructions is something that has happened to me so many times. It's the primary reason that I sometimes lose my sewing mojo and end up with unfinished sewing projects which are put to the side. Kudos to you for finishing your project so well. Is it customary for pattern companies to answer their customer's sewing questions? I could have used their help on past sewing projects but I didn't realize calling them was an option.

Thank you so much. I understand losing your mojo when you get confused by pattern directions. I believe with all of the big four pattern companies you can call and ask how steps are supposed to be completed. It has been very helpful, so I definitely recommend calling if you have trouble with a big four pattern again. :)(McCall’s, Simplicity, Butterick, Vogue)

It appears that step 24 is showing a diagonal clipping... That may be the answer to step 25! I recently made a garment that I had to read and reread the step over and over till I figured out how they wanted me to do it! I finally got it but was STUMPED for quite a while... All in all, your jumpsuit is gorgeous on you and the changes made a difference! Super pretty and dressy! Tee, I also am really impressed how you tend to get the idea in your head, then select the pattern, THEN select your fabric! I think that is so great of a creative process!..This time around sewing, I'm tending to be more of a fabric hoarder and I wish I had not gone that direction! My goal is to sew down my stash!

Hi, Theresa. Thank you so much. I’m so glad you were able to figure out the garment that you were stumped on. It’s always a great feeling when you finally “get it”. I tried everything. I even slept on it and tried to see if something would click over night. Lol. Nope. 😂. That didn’t work either. I tend to sew one thing at a time. I don’t keep a fabric stash, and I admire those who do. Thanks again.

My, my, my! You make the cutest outfit ever! I love this jumpsuit on you and especially with the wider legs, and the fabric you selected just sent this outfit over the top (in a great way!). I’m glad you figured it out for yourself and it turned out beautifully at my dad! Looking at those instruction stumped me too and I’d have to keep practicing with it to figure it out myself! Lol! Great work!

Hi, Myra. I miss you. It’s so nice chatting with you. Whew. I feel better knowing it’s not just me on those directions. Lol. I had already completed the jumpsuit by the time I got a call back from Simplicity. As she described what to do, I thought I had it in my mind, but when I tried it on some scrap fabric, I still couldn’t get it. I just decided to not worry about it, even though I really wish I could’ve figured it out. Thank you so very much. I like how the wider legs turned out too, and I’m so glad I was able to work something out and still wear the jumpsuit.

Lol, fortunately it turned out really cute, as usual. A clue is in the last sentence of instruction 25. You were to "trim" close to seam and make the diagonal cut to the dot (typical steps for corners, collars, pockets, etc.). Then you turn it out and use your pencil or stylus to push out and sharpen that finished corner. At this point, it should look more like a placket and extend out about an inch. Then you lap one side over the other side and sew one atop the other to join. I don't have the benefit of the instructions but the bottom would have buttons and the placket would have buttonholes. The placket resolves any peek-a-boo effects. You're right though, a zipper would've been just fine. Congrats, good job!

Omgoodness girl I lost side brain cells from step 25 onwards. I had to just put the instructions aside and figure it out myself. And in the end I didn't even need the buttons cos I can just pull it up without but I agree, next time it'll be a zipper. If there is a next time. I really don't like the straps at all. And I couldn't understand why they wanted us to make two loops and then cut them in half. Why don't we just make one loop and cut it in half, why the extra? So I didn't cut them in half I left them long and ugh idk I also wanted wider legs and overall it was too big so I took it apart to make it smaller and I think I'm so sick of this I don't even want it anymore

Omg. I totally understand your frustration. After so many changes, sometimes it gets like that, but it’s definitely a learning experience in case there is a next time. I “made it work”, but I wish I could’ve figured the extension part out. Thanks for sharing, and so sorry that your experience wasn’t a better one.

Done with my tester. I evened out the center back, discarded the loops and did buttons center back and for the straps. Will try to post a picture of my $5 HUGE red corduroy tablecloth tester turned into overalls. The changes to be made on my denim overalls are: take in the hips, do away with #25 instructions and do a zipper instead, NO POCKETS (back pocket is misplaced), may do the straps fixed in the back and hook in the front. Found the pattern confusing but will muster through and try to figure it out second time around. Looking forward to the challenge :)

Thank you so much for the update. Didn’t realize there was also an issue with the back pocket. Putting a zipper in the back is what I think I would do next time too. I think this pattern will look great in denim. I love that we can switch things up when sewing and make things our way. Thanks again.

Hi Manecoarse! I came over because I'm actively avoiding sewing in a zipper on a lined dress, lol. I'm so sorry you had trouble with that step in your jumpsuit, it's about as clear as MUD the way Simplicity writes it. I would be stumped too. You have such a lovely, gentle way about you when you've come to a fork in the road; let's just say I'm a bit different in that regard!! (Basically the entire house knows when a pattern doesn't make sense around here.) Also - do you have Lidl stores? They might only be on the East coast, but they make a fabulous knockoff Thin Mint for about $1.29 a box. They make Samoas too, so I haven't bought real GS cookies ever since!! Happy Sewing, and congrats on your cute, cute jumpsuit!!

Hi, Viv. Thank you so much. I was really disappointed that I couldn’t figure out those pattern directions. I feel like I tried everything I could, and then I finally decided it was time to just move on. I was extremely happy that the whole garment wasn’t ruined because of it. You had me laughing saying your whole house knows when a pattern doesn’t make sense. 😂😂 I’ve never heard of Lidl stores. I don’t think we have them here, but $1.29 a box sounds amazing, and having Girl Scout cookie dupes all year round sounds delightful. Thanks again, and good luck on your lined dress! :)

@@Manecoarse I haven't been to Trader Joe's in forever because it's kind of far away from my house so I hope they still have them! I just googled Trader Joe's vegan cookies to see if I could find a picture for you and all I could find were some other vegan cookies. Maybe they are good too? But the cookies I like are in a cute little brown bag with a little plastic window on the front. The top of the bag rolls down. The cookies taste like they are homemade :-) In the store I go to they are in the back of the store near the breads and teas/coffees. Sorry if this is too much information!

No. It’s not too much at all. In fact, now that you’ve described them, I’ve seen them, and I seem to remember that when I was looking at them, they only had ones with chocolate chips and walnut, I believe. I wanted to try just all chocolate chips. I’ll have to check for them the next time that I go to Trader’s and see if they have the all chocolate chip ones without nuts. You described the bag to a tee. :) Thank you!!
