Stuffed Hot Peppers from My Garden

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I grew an assortment of hot peppers from seed this year - this is the first real harvest - let's make some cheesy stuffed hot peppers.
I sowed the seeds for these peppers back in April - here are some steps along the way:
Sowing: • Random Stuff - Sowing ...
First sprouts: • Random Stuffings, Blue...
Update: • Random Stuff - My Tree...
Planted out: • Random Stuff - Stock, ...

I’ve never heard anyone pronounce Gouda like Gowda. Didn’t realize it was said differently around the world! North Americans say Gooda. Haha I guess that sounds silly too thinking about it 😆

In the Netherlands (where the cheese originates) the word is more like khowda, but that sound doesn't exist in my dialect so it's hard for me to voice it

@@AtomicShrimp I mean, that kind of attitude would be especially silly when talking about foreign words: "My non-native pronunciation is better than your non-native pronunciation." In the end, they're all just different approximations flavoured by different dialects. It would be awfully boring if everyone just tried to force out an American dialect for a single word.

what conditions do potatoes need? because on a whim i've planted some old potatoes that had started sprouting in my pantry and i actually got some plants, but they somehow ended up very thin and spindely and at some point fell over onto the ground and eventually wilted. when i dug up the spots where i planted the tatoes all i found was one tiny potatoe roughly the size of a big bean

Yup those are Hungarian Hot Wax Peppers. They grow well in the chillier, damper Northeastern US so probably better for Britain. Unless you do that warm stone trick I mentioned other peppers may not even fruit.A favorite of mine is chopped peppers and onion, some loose sausage, the kind that looks like hamburger meat,a can of good quality canned crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, and a robust non-string pasta like farfalle.Fry up the veggies and meat, make a sauce with the tomatoes and seasonings, nothing fancy, just cook it up quick, and serve mixed with the cooked pasta, veggies and meat. You can add red pepper flakes if not spicy enough and top with some grated cheese if you want. It's a nice change from spaghetti.

Now you are in my wheelhouse Mr. Shrimp. I grow about 50 varieties of peppers each year. From the sweetest to the Carolina Reaper, Trinidad Scorpion and the Ghost. I live in the colder pacific Northwest U.S.A. and peppers up here do not love being in raised beds with your other veggies. The roots are too cold and wet. I grow peppers in large black plastic pots. The sun warms the pot, which warms the soil, which warms the roots. I make my own potting soil which is normal potting soil (which has no soil in it at all) and I add steamed fish bone meal, alfalfa meal, kelp meal, epsom salt and worm castings. I fill the pot will 50% my own potting soil and 50% composted horse manure from my horse. I put the potted pepper plants in the hottest sunniest part of my property and give them minimal water. You almost want to starve your peppers of water. Almost to the point of the bottom story of leaves wilting. The plant will reward you. My pepper plants are about 4 feet tall and just loaded with peppers. I don't use my greenhouses after spring because it is too hot for most plants. So I put two beds inside the entrance to one of the greenhouses. With the doors open it reaches just over 140º in the daytime. That coupled with minimal watering the peppers are 4 to 5 feet tall and have super dark green leaves and softball sized peppers. So big they start to break the branches. We grow the Hungarian yellow wax pepper you are using in this video. They are very hot. Saving pepper seeds couldn't be easier. I just scrape them off onto a paper plate and write on the plate what the pepper is and set it on a shelf to dry out. After a week or two, I dump them into a little baggie and they are ready to plant when needed.
