in 5 years you're going to be 28 regardless!! so why not be 28 and a doctor, than 28 and wishing you did something about it when you were younger :) I'm also applying to grad med as a 22 year old, it terrifies me because of the age thing but i think that puts it into perspective for me xx

hi Lydia. Just wondering when applying for undergrad med as a grad, is your grad degree/grade considered? Or do you just need to meet the same requirements as someone coming from college? ie AAA or whatever

  • @LydiaMartinMedic

Hi Joan - universities will recognise your degree but how much A levels are considered varies between uni so for Southampton if I had a 2.1 degree I just needed a C in A level chemistry, some unis won’t look at A levels at all and some still want AAA. ☺️

When did you decide you wanted to be a doctor? Was it like at the beginning or end of your bio degree?

So Ive wanted to do Medicine since around GCSE time but I didn’t end up with super high A level grades so I went to do Biology thinking I would never get to do medicine and I only really discovered you could do medicine as a graduate in 2nd year of uni which is when I started to think about applying! @@LydiaMartinMedic Do you mind me asking what you got in Biology at uni? I know unis say they want people to get a 2:1 but due to the competitiveness, I am worried most people will have a first, with loads of experience and maybe even with really good GCSEs+A levels which I don't. Also, what other unis have you applied for GEM?

So with working 20 hours a week, you were able to afford 3k+ per semester ?? I’m planning on going for the graduate entry rather than undergraduate because I don’t think I’m able to afford it, but if it’s doable with working, then I might consider applying for undergraduate unis as well. Many thanks!

Hey so with 20 hours a week I pay my rent and bills and eat, and then I use the maintenance loan to pay my tuition fees. You can still get a maintenance loan as a grad on the undergrad course depending on your parents income. I have a video on my channel where I explain the options in full detail it’s called “Funding undergraduate Medicine as a Graduate” xx

@@LydiaMartinMedic THanks! I have watched your other video as well. I don't have any parents so I'll have to look up how they'll calculate that for me. Just wondering how it works also, do you pay monthly for your tuition or is it every 3 months? Many thanks...
