The existence of Chinese Elon makes me wonder if we all have a look alike out there somewhere. However, I don't think there could be any bigger hit to your self-esteem than to find out your look alike is the richest man in the world and you're just trying to scrape together enough to splurge on some fancy ramen. Thanks for the stream, Pippa.

1:25:02 when you hear about big CEO payouts, gotta read the fine print. Almost always, the deal is actually for stock shares, and the media gives the highest possible value of the stocks at any given time. most likly the deal was he gets another 5 million shares of stock and at the time those stocks were worth 50b or something. like that. ceos general dont like cash bonuses. they get taxed to hell but if the bonuses is in stock and they hold onto it for 24months after the fact, the taxes are lower. the risk is that the socks could also be much lower too. i had a stock grant once that was worth 25k when i got it, held onto it to avoid paying 40% tax but when it came time i could sell it, the stock had lost 50% of its value and selling it would still cost me 15% in taxes. but then i held onto it another year and then stock came back up.

12:04 NASA doesnt have technology, NASA just uses contractors too, so it was likely just general dynamics or some other contractor tech. most of the big names we here are often just the ones who hag a vision and gathered the right smart people together to make it happen. anyone whose seen greatest showman, guy in the red jacket isnt the show, he puts the show together and feeds it to the world. thats what most of the famous names do. Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Edison, Tesla, and Musk. they each had a few of their own ideas but their empire was built on creating a system based on a bunch existing parts which were not being used efficiently.

Well, Tesla actually inventor (and introvert lol) and businessman in much less capacity. Edison is patented shitton of things but most of them silly and not very important, and also yes, he is hustler businessman, administrator and PR-guy. Other dudes you mention are only that, without inventing things. (NASA most likely have blueprints from all companies they work with, so they dont lose capacity to repair and maintain things they have when contract is over. But yeah, they not develop it)

48:21 Quick look up for the emerald mine, it wasn't in SA but in Zambia. 80k to buy his fathers and the copilot's plane half of that back to buy some of the mine. 83-89 daddy turned 40k into 160k, or 400k in 2021. Just a random guess, but the 'group of Italians' or Panamanian man who he had the handshake deal with, they bought a lil Cessna? If that was worth ~30k those fellas were in desperate need or hijacking it but making a quick deal to get out of the country fast. Given the times it was probably the Angolan Bush War. I do wonder what the contraband was. That's the real question. Was daddy a gun runner?

The underground system thing looks dystopian af. I go on long drives to view the countryside away from the shitties, where there's nature as far as the eye can see, it's relaxing. This would set off my flight or fight response if I noticed someone else was in the tunnel. God forbid someone falls down there, pancake mix. Also no one thought that for the concept of tunnels with car-shaped frames that move, cars come in different shapes and sizes. I would die laughing if that's why we got the scaledown. It'd be such a hassle to swap out those frameworks (assuming they had a frame for every model in the country) that you could just drive normally.

Cars need to be banned in the future anyway, because they waste ridiculous amount of space and create traffic jams inevitably whatever you do with infrastructure. Public transport (if its good) absolutely sufficient for most of the people, and if you a person that have to go in specific location on your own very fast, then motorbike is for you. AI that control all traffic and move all cars in super-efficient pattern can help with jams but same thing with public transport still will be much efficient. Also this Musk's idea is just shitty metro, dont bother analysing, no one in even remotely sane mind would build those.

The boring company video is just proof of concept to show they can keep a car on a narrow strip at high speed without driver input. The actual goal is to have multi lane, autonomous tesla only tunnels that will get you places at 120mph “Put a train down there” Like the New York subway? Or the existing monorails in cali? The mobile homeless shelters?

In my opinion, Elon is fine, though I find he only does things half way and never fully delivers, but he still does good stuff and is best left alone to do his own thing, not someone you should go out of your way to support or be a fan of instead admire the cool things he does sometimes.

If he gave us everything complete right outta his ass I'd be even more suspicious of him. Things take time like his rockets. I'm sure his people could build something in their backyard but nobody gonna let us fly to space solo. Same with his EVs we all mighta been using one if we let the auto industry die decades ago instead of bailing them out. Imagine them nasty looking cybertrucks everywhere. lol

I don't understand the "never [fully] delivers" comment that I see about him all the time. People forget that 20 years ago, the experts thought reusable rockets, EVs that were as good or better than gas cars, and cars that could drive themselves using only vision were a pipe dream. Even 12 years AFTER Tesla has shown how good EVs can be, the rest of the auto industry can't come close to manufacturing an EV that is as compelling and sold at a profit. Elon makes predictions (not promises!) with what he knows at the time, but although he ends up being late, he still manages to beat everyone else by a mile, and ends up earlier than if he hadn't set an aggressive timeline.

@@ema_skye bruh, Tesla cant make cybertruck for years after promised time and even after that its bugged and infamously overpriced. Elon didnt made good EVs (and also... EVs good? Like without heavy government subsidies on their prices or they would cost as 1-2 classes of luxury higher? And they stopped to burn like supercandles and having very limited battery capacity? This is all are things why EV not popular earlier, and now this reasons are ignored or buried in government money because virtue signaling of eco friendliness. EV as is existed even before gasoline cars) nor AI-driven cars by himself. And he toss around much more ridiculous projects that he and his fans are ended up forgetting very fast lol. All Musk things besides space industry is either mixed bag of good and cringe, or total bullshit. SpaceX is very good, no controversy on this side (of course, if you realise that it was unsustainable for dozen of years and NASA tossed money at him for nothing, until he begin deliver and deliver good. NASA would probably just waste this money without Elon or make less innovative things, but its still nowhere is "private space success, fck you governments!"), Starlink is next step in satellite tech (and turning orbit into pile of garbage too), everpresent enough even to be major factor in ongoing war. So based in space things, and use popularity gained from this to make himself look competent in other things too

People who criticize the LV loop don't have a point. The reason the loop was built by Elon is because it cost less than 1/100th what a train would cost. People simping for trains haven't actually done a cost comparison for how much a subway actually costs. LV is very happy with the loop, and so are the customers. The only people who hate it are internet spectators who have done zero research but read headlines, and watch internet videos.

People don't realize that Elon Musk's dad had a gem farm, yes, but he didn't help Elon at all, because he wanted his son to build his own wealth. That's kind of fucked up. It just shows that it's possible to get rich by yourself, but it's extremely hard, and you have to focus on something niche. Going wide is the best way to go broke. You know Elon had to take out a loan, and I'm afraid to do that myself.

Best way to learn about Elon Musk is from the man himself. Most people only hear what Journos write, and that isn't what I would call an "objective take" but it is easy enough to watch his interviews and decide for yourself. In my experience people who hate Elon typically lack critical thinking skills, and are ideologically captured, and just hate that he tweets things that dont conform to their worldview.

Everyone has some cringe and Elon is definitely a weird guy, but it is because he is such an outlier that he is able to think outside the box and do what others haven't been able to do despite all "the experts" saying it is foolish and impossible. While a ME doesn’t really NEED one due to what we work on, they’ll just have a single guy who’s a PE sign off on stuff.
