🌍 Hello World! My name is Ihor.
This is my channel where I share my experiences, ideas, reviews and tutorials related to Electronic Music Production. I focus mostly on Techno and House music. In my Studio on my Music Production Desk you will find a variety of different gear like: digital and analog synth, eurorack modular, drum machine, sampler, effect, mixer, guitar pedal, MIDI controller. Also software: DAW, Ableton, VST, plugins.
I am myself an engineer and I am quite obsessed with the Music Technology and Sound Design. I like making music without a computer. I like playing Electronic Music Live with my Minimal Dawless Setup. I love Eurorack Modular Techno and always keen to talk about the modular workflow. I love the Elektron Workflow! I am a fan of Intellijel and Noise Engineering.
I strongly believe that nothing can be better than a good Dawless Techno Jam!
I watched all the Techno Tutorials on KZread! (I think)
📺 Thanks for watching! And have fun!
✌️ Peace.

    What a cozy tour. Your studio is an absolute dream, I don't think I could work around all of those distractions, you must have great self control! Love your videos, Ihor. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see your channel get bigger and bigger!

    Thank you my friend! Glad you loved that tour. Self control is a tough topic haha. I don't think I have it in a great shape. This is also why it is important to remove as much friction as possible. So that your self control doesn't even get involved when you get the mood to jam.

    Ihor thank you a lot about so detailed studio tour. I took a lot of ideas from this video and will reuse it with my setup. Also the main idea to start within 1 minute is great. Catch myself that sometimes more than 1 minute prelaunch ruins some creativity.

    I appreciate the walk through Ihor . You've given me some great tips, especially on how you connect your synths with the Midi Solutions thru box. And you're the second person in a week to share the love of the Digitakt! The light above you is stellar and you have a consistent look no matter where you're sitting, which is hard to do! I'm looking forward to watching your channel grow and to learn with you this year as you unfold your ideas. Keep it going -

    Nice one Ihor, pretty smart setup, I've also been thinking of using my Rytm as midi/sync bridge between ableton and my hardware stuffs to sync everything, as the sync via overbridge is neat. This comfort my idea. Wish you all the best for 2022, and look forward for your content/music !

    I did that for quite a while. It works pretty well. Only bummer is the other hardware will record with latency since they are not going through the Overbridge plugin (which causes the latency). I ended up using an ERM which solves all of that, but costs a lot unfortunately.

    Hey! It is so nice to hear from you! I love your channel and content you create! Another Techno and Rytm addict! hahaha I actually just use MIDI to sync Rytm, not the Overbridge. Now you made me thinking about this. I've got a few more things to try too! I am super curious how you end up syncing all this. I wish you the best in 2022! ❤️

    @@cedric2280 Yep, the other problem though is the latency can change with the plugins changing or getting updated. So setting latency for each device can be rough. My other option besides the ERM is just record everything into multitrackers. The 1010 Bluebox is amazing for this for example. Then I just drag the wav files into the DAW.

    Thanks for making this video. I just watched your modular rig video and then found this one. I really found both to be very helpful. Ive been refining and figuring out what instruments and rigs are enjoyable and offer me the ease to create. I started a few years ago with semi modular, then all modular and then guitar with pedals. I ended up selling off the semi modular, selling off a lot of the modular and keeping the guitar with pedals. But now Ive been considering how to create total tracks but to keep the "rig" to whatever will fit on a table (not including a mixer, audio interface, electric guitar and mac). I just ordered a couple pieces... an intellijel 104 palette (thanks to you) and a vermona drm1. Ive tried the elektron devices and they are great but I dont like those small screens. I cannot follow those screens when creating in the heat of the moment. So Im going to try a rig of the palette case for plucky bass, guitar with pedals and the drm1 with pedals. Like you, I have a mackie mixer I really like and it has direct outs that can go to my studiofuse interface. The only other piece of kit is the oto boum connected to the mixer for the overall bus. I hear you about imposter syndrome. Let's ditch that thought and create in 2022!!!

    hey Ihor, love your setup and tutorials. I also have had the problem of daw-less and with daw jamming. I've a hybrid mixer, that can send each input to the DAW by acting as a low latency audio interface. It works really well, no computer required, however still can turn the comp on and have multi-track recording. There are a few, like Zoom L12, or Tascam Model 12\16\24 which I have myself. The Tascam also has a subgroup, so you can determine per channel if you want it on the subgroup or not, the subgroup out, you can put into your octatrack

    This is a really great and useful video, man 🙌 I love the analog rytm mkII! It would be interesting to hear your perspective on the elektron file structure. No matter how long, I still find myself thinking "wait, I save this where? Does the Kit include that, or the pattern? 🤔"Lol

  • @IhorMedia

    @IhorMedia

    2 жыл бұрын

    "I save this where?" this is a tough question my friend. I keep asking myself every time! Let me give you a few tips. Sample Packs I never have too many samples on my Elektron machines. Overtime I have created a library of sample packs that I know and love. And it is not big. On the machine I store them like Packs/[Brand]/[Name]. For example I have a pack called Devine 909 from Elektron, it goes into Packs/Elektron/Devine 909. And I have such an approach across all the machines. Resampling Another quite common thing is to resample a sound and then save it. Especially on the Rytm. Here I have a naming convention in place: [Project] [Kit] [Name]. For example if I resampled a noise layer for my kick drum inside of the project called Techno Kits in the Kit 2. Then I'd save that sample as: TK 02 KICK NOISE. Where TK - Techno Kits, 02 - Kit 2, KICK NOISE - sample name. And I'd save it in that default Recordings directory. Yeah, eventually it will have a thousand samples in it. But it will be clear where each of them belongs too. Overall naming convention is important. I used to be a bit more chaotic and thought that spending time on naming samples is a bit too much and breaks creative process. Now I don't think so haha. With a simple and clear naming convention in place you won't spend that much time when you work with samples. And on the long term you'll benefit from being structured and organised. At least that what I think now. PS: I've read somewhere that on the Elektron machines with Drive+ it is not that important where you save the sample. Machine uses some kind of hash mechanism to assign samples to the Project and doesn't really care in which directory this sample is stored. Which means that if you move your samples from Recording folder into another folder in the future - all the projects will be able to find those samples anyways. I've never tried this tho. But I will soon! Or you try! Thanks for watching!

  • @els1f

    @els1f

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@IhorMedia WOW THAT'S A GREAT ANSWER! 🤯 Thanks a lot for all that! When it comes to naming samples, I always used to do it fast (iow, chaotic🤦‍♂️) with the intention of going back and making sense of it. Now I know that I'm never going back and it's never going to make sense unless I do it now 😋 Keeping it song/project specific is a really great idea too! I just throw everything into a kick, snare, vocal, FX, etc and there's way to much in each. Plus, how many super_subkik064 can you possibly have/need 🤣 I really appreciate this, man. Oddly, getting a peak into someone's file habits is as good as seeing their DAW workflow when it comes to electronic music lol.

    Thanks for sharing. Are you using custom stands for your synths? i'm searching for stands for digitakt and pioneer as-1, and i'll really apreciate if you share what are you using. thanks again for your great videos.

    Thank you Jose! Quote about the stands: The stands are Roadworx Synthesizer Stand Bundle. They are not ideal, tho they were cheaper than anything else. There was a little problem with the bundle - the opening in between levels was to small to put Octatrack there. Since the OT has 2 rows of ins and outs cables simple wouldn’t fit there. I had to put nuts 🔩 (about 2 cm) and longer screws to upper the second level.

    Thank you! Sure! Key Light This is the biggest light, with a huge softbox and grid. This is the one behind the camera, just slightly to the right (or left) from it, at about 45º. It's purpose to light up both: me and the gear on the desk. I am using one of the cheapest Godox SL-60W and 90cm softbox. Works just fine! Secondary Light You may have seen the lights with 3 lamps at the back of the room. This is just an IKEA one. So, this one is sort of decorative. However I have exactly the same of screen. On the right from me. I use the 3 lamps and point them to highlight some dark parts on the desk. Also I am using quite warm lamps there. LED Lights There are 2 LED lights that can be any color with different intensity. I add a touch of red from the back (you can see that in the latest videos). Another one adds a touch of blue on me and my head from the back left side of screen. Christmas Light This is just a nice touch. I never had intention to use it as such, it just was there cause I like it. And it looks good on the video too! Which is awesome. This is it, I guess. Hope it was helpful. PS: I'd recommend checking Caleb Pike (aka DSLR Video Shooter) on KZread. Pure gold for understanding lights and filming in general.

    I have a love & hate relationship with my Pro 3. At times I even regret buying it. However, for me the Pro 3 is kinda “conventional” synth. And every time I use it “conventionally”, it delivers 100% quality. And by “conventional” I mean like comfortably large synth, everything is there and does top quality job. What it misses for my taste - is roughness, that you get from the modular. I might have an idea for a video. Thanks.

    @@IhorMedia I know what you mean with the hate love relationship. Maybe I am not into all this enough, but I have the feeling that the real characteristic and place of the pro 3 isn't really clear when I watch the videos of it. And there aren't many in the last time. Mostly the people create some harsh stuff and the "moogy" filter doesn't sounds warm and full compared to my behringer model d and neutron I owned before. It's maybe a more precise but flatter sound? I don't know if I am correct with this, just my feelings. I think a video that critically clarifies the character of this synth could be something that's needed. But however, I will keep it for the next time and try to tickle more out of it, its not an easy synth.

    I was struggling with routing for a long time (and still am, haha). I've settled on a Korg MW2408 mixer + Tascam 16x08 interface. The Korg has 8 individual outputs (subgroups) and master L/R, so 10 channels in total. All my hardware is connected to the mixer and I'm able to record 10 tracks multitrack (post-EQ and post-fader) into Ableton. I do have to choose between mono and stereo, if I want to record in stereo I have to use 2 channels, so for example master L/R or 2 subgroups. There isn't a 16+ channel mixer on the market AFAIK that does post-EQ/post-fader multitrack recording with a built-in interface, unfortunately. Nice studio! I can highly recommend the Adam Hall 874 1U ERGO rack drawer, they're super sturdy and smooth. Also cheap on Thomann ;)

    They are quite similar. However there are some little differences. For example. Digitakt has 2 Filters and 2 LFOs per track, Rytm one of each. Digitakt is much better for external gear, because it has External Mixer that can send audio to effects and also separate L and R inputs as 2 independent mono inputs. Rytm simply can't do that. And I think will never be able to do that, because of its analog nature. Said that however. Rytm gives you way much more performance tools, like scenes, performance macros, etc. Hope that helps!

    I don't have the Rytm (yet!), but I agree that Digitakt seems like the better choice since you can get all sorts of great samples for it. I tend to sample into it from the DFAM, but I've also purchased some of the Elektron sound packs and a sound pack from Dave Mech as well.
