if according to statistics avarage person have X number of people considered friends, with X/2 of real friends it doesn't mean a non-avarage person with X friends/"friends" is going to fall under the same pattern, because he is non-avarage (has much less friends), he is an anomaly in the statistics :D also when you are "an social anomaly" (which is pretty unnatural for a human being), maybe BECAUSE you stopped hanging with pseudo-"friends" and left the real ones with you so I agree with you ;P

True. I think the statistic is only like that because there are so many toxic and fake friends that attract each other most of the time, obviously you can never know for sure if someone is a true friend or not, but it's pretty easy to tell if you pay attention.

Funny how so many of us think the same way. I have 1 real friend and that is because he and I understand we base it on a principal not emotional. I noticed this years ago when I was in school and would see people talking and joking around. Then one would leave and the other would come to me and be like. "Man I can't stand that person, he is so annoying." I starting thinking, hmm if he does that to that person, then what does he say about me? People have been fake for years and it is hard to find that true friend.

I hardly ever leave my house. I have become an empath. I do have a lot of Facebook friends but I know deep inside? They just wanted to befriend me so that they can see what I am up to? I think that I am a very boring person. My family don't even visit or talk to me? But I have become a recluse. After watching this I realise that I don't have any friends anymore... I guess I caused this on my own? At least I have my 2 beautiful cats. 😅

Well , before quarantine i considered my whole class of 50 students to be my friends (I'm a student , not a teacher). If someone called me their best friend I'd also tell them not to call me that...in my head, at least, because I'm too polite. I don't like people calling anyone their best friend because that's rude to all their other friends. And with most people, they call all their friends their best friends, which just takes away from the value of that title when it's true.

I got the feeling my best friend contacted me everyday just to check that l was having a bad day..... 🤷🏼‍♀️. While l was stuck in a foreign country when the world was taken hostage by Covid it was obvious my best friend was enjoying my anxiety and l decided to cut her off completely, l have never been happier and realise she was only in contact with me to check if l wasn’t doing better than her.

I know exactly the type of person you're talking about. I have my dog slowly dying on me since last April. It's been horrible to say the least. My best friend only checked in when she was bored every couple of months. While doing so, she always tried to make a competition out of who has it worse and made sure to tell me that I'm lucky because the pandemic doesn't affect me. (I'm a freelancer, my dog's treatment is expensive, my mom has cancer and with two stalking neighbors, I'd really like to move). She then focused the conversation on her and her hardships (usually trivial things). These people are poison. It's good that you've noticed and cut her loose. To be stuck in another country during all of this is pretty much one of the worst things that could happen to you atm. I can't even imagine how frightening this must have been. Anyone not giving you empathy for that when even strangers on the internet can see that's a shit situation to be in is not and has never been your friend.

There’s a high chance for people who are not in good condition or are a little powerless to have fake friends as there are some people who are friends with such people to make them seem kind and sometimes so that they can use them as they find it difficult to stand up and will listen to one.

No - half of your friends don’t consider you their friend. That’s not the same as not liking you as a person. I swear, people love jumping in front of bullets, dying to be offended and maligned.

I believe a true friend isn't determined by the amount of time you spend together but the quality of every second you share. A true friend isn't always someone who will put you before themselves because expecting that wouldn't make you a true friend yourself. It's someone who will understand and listen to your situation no matter how bad theirs may be. Someone who would give you the feedback you need but may not want, and when all is said and done they still love you unconditionally for being who you truly are.

I have 2 friends who are like brothers to me, I know them since I was 5 years old and we have been through so much together that now at age 21 we still speak on a regular basis and we still support each other with our different lifestyles.

I've had many friends, and even best friends I realized were fake friends or didn't like me. I was really sad about cutting contact with them at first, but now I've realized that it was definitely the right decision for my own well-being, and I couldn't be happier with never seeing them again. I did so much for them, and they did almost nothing for me and canceled on me all the time. So, I'm absolutely not surprised that so many friendships aren't reciprocated, although one of my biggest pitfalls was that I trusted my friends way too much. I will say though, that I still do remember the happy moments with them as well.

These statistics are heavily dependent on age group- college kids have lots of transient friends because they are in a transient stage of life. High school is a time for strong bonds, and later in life people tend to turn towards family and away from tight social circles.

Did an experiment on this. I stopped talking to everyone. Only like three people noticed I had, out of 10. Edit: I chose out of people that I talked to regularly, people I always had to message first.. I have some relationships with people where we just don’t talk that much but we’re still close.. so I accounted for that.

You realize that some people just don't need a lot of social interaction, right? I have friends I haven't seen in years, but when we do visit we pick it up like we've only been gone a week. Friendship is not about frequency of the bonding, it's about the strength of the bond.

The idea that only friends share secrets is partly true. As an Uber driver of three years and a traveler of six years, I’ve noticed that sometimes people seem to be more comfortable opening up to a complete stranger who they may never see again than friends they’ve had for years, and that really goes to prove your point. I try to be a friend to every person I meet, and it gives me fulfillment even though I have no idea who my real friends are. Sometimes the self-pity can threaten to eat me alive, but at the end of the day, it’s the fulfillment of making people’s day with a helpful hand or kind, uplifting words that keeps me alive. It’s kind of odd that the very thing that gives me life also sometimes can feel like it’s killing me, but it’s really self-pity that kills me. So what if people don’t consider me a friend? They have their own lives, and so do I. Someone doesn’t need to be my friend for me to want to make them smile, and the second I start thinking about what I’m getting or not getting in return is the second I start taking away my own substance, leading to a feeling of lack rather than fullness that we are only able fill ourselves. The enjoyment of loving is its own reward. It’s what fills us up, and I’m learning this year that that includes self-love too. It’s so much easier to be happy for others’ happiness that doesn’t involve us if we are our own best friend.

Kids in playground to parents I just made a friend, may never see that kid again but for those few hours they bestest buds. I always keep my friend group small internationally and most of my friends didn't get it till they were older, I'd rather have a smaller group of really good friends then a larger group of good friends. Because the really good ones because family and that's the kind of friends you want in your life, when my dad passed away 300 people turned up to his funeral and all said the same thing he was friendly kind and would help anyone. He told me always help your friends out and when the time comes if they can't or won't do the same then you know who your real friends are, real friends are there when you need them and especially when you don't.

I have about 4 friends and out of that 4 only half I truly respect the other two I enjoy their company most of the time but its just goofing around for the most part. All of them have helped me with tasks such as moving and taking a sickly relative to an appointment or a home improvement venture but only 2 have helped enrich me and helped me grow as a person with advice or complicated paperwork such as taxes, or job search, which insurance package or investment package to purchase. And advice on going back to school as well as encouragement to stick with it etc.
