Students in Cuba Stand with U.S. Student Encampments for Gaza

Hundreds of students gathered at the University of Havana to condemn the police repression of US student protesters and show their support for Palestine. On the same steps, students were repressed by the Batista dictatorship in the 1950s - one of the sparks of the revolution.

Free Gaza from what? They voted for Hamas, and they are the ones who started this war. The official data on civilian deaths in Gaza which is often quoted by the media is misleading. Lawyers For Israel have stated that "these figures have been fabricated. These statistics are produced by the Hamas controlled Ministry of Health, and then circulated by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. The Palestinian statistics are also deployed in a way that implies wrongly that all the Palestinians killed were civilians, as there is no reference to the number of Palestinian combatants killed. The ratio of civilians to combatants killed is particularly relevant when assessing the proportionality of Israeli military actions and hence whether they are likely to have violated international humanitarian law.” Jonathan Turner, chief executive of UKLFI commented: “Credence given to these allegations is fuelling antisemitism on a major scale and is also liable to lead to incorrect decisions by public authorities on important issues.” However, even if the stats were true, 13,000 Palestinian combatants had been killed by the end of February 2024, meaning that the ratio of civilian to combatant death rate is less than 1.5:1. This ratio is much lower than the usual ratio of civilian to combatant casualties in urban warfare, as indicated by a Report by the UN Secretary General which found that in urban armed conflicts worldwide, 89% of the casualties were civilians. Other articles which prove that Hamas’ statistics are false include: How the Gaza Ministry of Health Fakes Casualty Numbers by Prof Abraham Wyner, Statistically Impossible: A Critical Analysis of Hamas’s Women and Children Casualty Figures by Profs Tom Simpson, Lewi Stone and Gregory Rose, Gaza Fatality Data Has Become Completely Unreliable by Gabriel Epstein from The Washington Institute, The numbers of dead in Gaza don’t add up - and there is no easy explanation by Mark Zlochin in The Telegraph, and Close review of Gaza casualty figures reported by UNOCHA based on daily Hamas ‘Ministry of Health’ numbers proves they are falsified” by Salo Aizenberg. The Washington Institute for Near East Policy has documented significant discrepancies in Hamas’ fatality numbers in their report entitled How Hamas Manipulates Gaza Fatality Numbers: Examining the Male Undercount and Other Problems. At least 1000 rockets fired by Hamas landed in their own territory, and Hamas have gunned down civilians who were attempting to obtain aid from the IDF troops, as can be seen on video footage uploaded to the Stand With Us KZread account. The war in Gaza has one of the lowest civilian casualty rates in recorded history. As Colonel Richard Kemp’s research and calculations have shown, the Syrian Civil War resulted in 250, 000 deaths, the Yemeni civil war resulted in 150,000 deaths, the Tigray War in Ethiopia has killed 80,000 people and 2 million people have been killed in warfare in Sudan. In fact, every significant war in the middle east and Africa has had a much higher death toll than the Hamas war, including the Iraq-Iran War with an estimated 500,000 to 2 million deaths, and the Congo War which has been blamed for 6 million deaths since 1996. The USA and Britain also killed a far higher number of civilians in Afghanistan and Iraq, and Saudi Arabia has killed 400, 000 people in Yemen. If you watch the Stand With Us videos on KZread, you can see videos of the Israel Defence Forces evacuating and escorting Palestinian civilians to safe areas and providing aid and medical assistance to them. In fact, the IDF have evacuated 1.5 million Gazan civilians to safe zones, and, unlike other armies, the IDF has a whole unit dedicated to evacuation efforts. It is called the Population Evacuation Unit. This unit uses an advanced digital map that divides Gaza into over 600 polygons, enabling evacuations from very specific areas. The IDF employs phones calls, text messages, flyers, loudspeakers and media platforms to warn civilians to evacuate. No other army in the world lets its enemies know of impending attacks, because this would risk the lives of its own army members. Using various tools, the Population Evacuation Unit can keep tabs on how many residents have left a given area. What warning did Hamas give before they slaughtered thousands of people, kidnapped hundreds and beheaded innocent babies? John Spencer, Chair of the Urban Welfare Studies at the Modern War Institute at West Point and a retired US military officer has stated that “Israel has taken more measures to avoid needless civilian harm than virtually any other nation that’s fought an urban war...No military in modern world history has faced over 30,000 urban defenders in more than seven cities using human shields and hiding in hundreds of miles of underground networks purposely built under civilian cites, while holding hundreds of hostages. The sole reason for civilian deaths in Gaza is Hamas.”

In an interview with Trouw Magazine, 31. March 1977 he stated....."The Palestinian people do not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct "Palestinian people" to oppose Zionism. Yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity exists only for tactical reasons. The establishment of a Palestinian state is a new tool to continue the fight against Israel and for Arab unity. "There has never been a land known as Palestine governed by Palestinians. Palestinians are Arabs indistinguishable from Jordanians (another recent invention), Syrians, Iraqis etc. Keep in mind that the Arabs control 99.9 per cent of the Middle East lands. Israel represents one tenth of one per cent. But that is too much for the Arabs. They want it all. And that is ultimately what the fighting in Israel is about today...no matter how many land concessions the Israelis make, it will never be enough". Stated.....we all have Arab roots, and every Palestinian, in Gaza and throughout Palestine, can prove his Arab roots - whether from Saudi Arabia, from Yemen, or anywhere. We have blood ties. Personally, half my family is Egyptian. We are all like that. More than 30 families in the Gaza Strip are called Al-Masri ["Egyptian"]. Brothers, half of the Palestinians are Egyptians, and the other half are Saudis. Who are the Palestinians? We have many families called Al-Masri, whose roots are Egyptian. Egyptian! They may be from Alexandria, from Cairo, from Dumietta, from the North, from Aswan, from Upper Egypt. We are Egyptians.

Free Gaza from what? They voted for Hamas, and they are the ones who started this war. The official data on civilian deaths in Gaza which is often quoted by the media is misleading. Ireland in 1945 sent condolences to Nazi Germany when Hitler died. There were also Pogroms in Ireland against Irish Jews such as the Limerick Pogrom from 1904 to 1906. After 1945 Ireland gave political asylum to many Nazis such as Otto Skorzeny. Ireland only recognized Israel in 1964 and sent an Ambassador in 1994. Relations between Ireland and the Jewish Community have been cold since well over one century.

(Arab writer and historian Joseph Farah in his book Myths of the Middle East October 2000.) Hamas Minister of the Interior and of National Security Fathi Hammad, aired by Al-Hekma TV on March 23, 2012. Stated..... .....we all have Arab roots, and every Palestinian, in Gaza and throughout Palestine, can prove his Arab roots - whether from Saudi Arabia, from Yemen, or anywhere. We have blood ties. Personally, half my family is Egyptian. We are all like that. More than 30 families in the Gaza Strip are called Al-Masri ["Egyptian"]. Brothers, half of the Palestinians are Egyptians and the other half are Saudis. Who are the Palestinians? We have many families called Al-Masri, whose roots are Egyptian. Egyptian! They may be from Alexandria, from Cairo, from Dumietta, from the North, from Aswan, from Upper Egypt. We are Egyptians. We are Arabs. Salma Fayumi, a resident of Kafr Qasim (Palestin/Israel), demonstrated her cooking prowess on the show "Master Chef." Fayumi proudly showed off her Kushari dish that she prepared, "Egyptian cuisine made of rice and lentil." "My family came from Egypt, from Faiyum, and I am Salma Fayumi from Faiyum," the cook from Kafr Qasim said. If Palestine were an Arab state, at any point in recorded history, why was there no mention of them? Because there never was an Arab Palestinian nation, nor any nation called Palestine, ever. In 1964 Yasser Arafat visited Moscow, USSR. While there, the Soviet KGB (secret service) developed a strategy for him. Arafat would be the leader of a new organization named PLO, Palestinian liberation organization. The KGB recommended that the Arabs create a new identity for themselves that would called Palestinian.

I spent a month traveling all over Cuba back in 2017. One of our taxi drivers asked our itinerary and after telling him where we were and going he said, “you’ll see more of this country in a month than any Cuban besides military brass & party leaders.” There were water shortages in small towns. The biggest hotel in Havana ran out of mint at 2pm and couldn’t make the country’s signature drink. Locations ran out of food at certain points in the evening. Doctors get paid $35 a month. But every household has plenty of coffee and sugar. Gross inequality in a country that still doesn’t know the half of it. At the same time, an amazing place with amazing people. They could have so much more and too many I don’t even realize it.
