That’s how FOR PROFIT institutions work. That’s why when I hear PIMA and College of Healthcare Professions, Chamberlain etc. it’s nothing but sketchy to me. They’re not non profit or more established private universities like A&M or Rice.

Anyone who attended AI within the past decade or so should have all their loans forgiven. They forgave loans for ITT Tech students going all the way back to 2005, and that school shut down back in 2016.

I went to school there starting in 2011 right after they moved to this building and I must say that I enjoyed my time there. It was like being in a small town where everyone knew each other. The sense of family at this school was STRONG. Everyone was always willing to help each and look out for each other, and the friendship was strong as well. BUT, the main problems of this school were the fact that the enrollment department was always overpromising what type of future students had. Secondly, many of the classes had professors who never lectured and only held class to have students work on final projects during the entire time. I've heard stories of students who taught the classes themselves based on what they already knew! And as for myself, I graduated in 2014 and had a few low paying jobs related to graphic design that barely paid anything! I ended up starting my own web/graphic design business at the end of 2016 and still own it to this day, it's called Creativity Design Group. RIP Art Institute of Houston, I hate see you go but your own faults are the reason why you bit the dust!

There needs to be a law requiring employers to let their employees know in advance when they are getting ready to shut down. The same also goes for schools that are packed with students! Secondly, such a law needs to require employers to make sure all remaining funds pay out all their employees first before making any other expenses, such as paying off debts!

They don't have the same programs at HCC AND Lone star. I started at U of H and it's not a Art school so the teaching is different. I graduated from the Art institute with a Bachelor's of photography and digital media degree and everything I learned there I have been able to use in my photography career.

... They are nothing like they had been in the early/mid 80s when I attended and graduated... Back then they were strictly a two year finishing program, for which you had to get all the required classes and prerequisites (including art history) taken already at a regular college or university... In addition to the tuition and all the educational credentials, you also needed some kind of portfolio that featured your own artwork, and a letter of introduction from someone you knew (either a professor in school or someone you worked with) whom specialized in the particular art related field you were seeking... If you did not have _ALL_ those requirements, you weren't getting through the Ai doors until you did - No exceptions! That's how it once _always_ used to be done ever since the first Ai opened in Pittsburgh in the late 60s... I have no idea when they changed those requirements and practices to what led to their eventual demise... RIP Ai...

I was a student there from 2011-2014 and it's a bit weird hearing this news, but not surprising. They have been facing a lot of scrutiny for overpromising to students how great their futures would be if they got degrees there, but in reality they were taking out thousands of dollars in student loans only to end up working at Walmart because they never got good jobs in their fields!

Hi all, alumni from the Miami location, Miami international university of art and design. That school was originally, international fine arts college. They almost went bankrupt until Ai bought them out. I can tell you all what happened, simple case of just not enough students enrolled because no one goes to school anymore plus you can learn all they can teach you through KZread. I know for some of you having that piece of paper showing you pursued something well unfortunately in the real world it’s all about who you meet and who you can show your talent to. I went for film and have tried and not been able to get any full time work. Some of my colleagues did. Want the truth. This is a blessing in disguise, it was bound to happen because, I went to visit my school once driving by it and it was just dead and when I asked where was everybody they told me, “No one wants to go to school anymore.”. Personally, I don’t blame them.

Oh my gosh this is devasting!! I am a Art institute of Houston Alumni. I have a Bachelor's degree in Photography and Digital Media. The school is more than great. It really brought my photography to another level. I won 2 scholarships for my photography which lowered my student loans dramatically and before graduating the recruitment counselor already landed me a job doing corporate photography and I also became a full time photo editor. I've had a great photography career and I owe it all to my photography professors and the photography chair. I pray for the students. That breaks my heart so much and I feel for the staff as well. Lord guide the students in the right direction and continue to help make their dreams come true in Jesus name Amen.😢🙏🙏

I graduated in '98 and although I understand many people had a negative experience with this school, it was very good to me. I got along with the students and professors there and most importantly, they helped me find my first job immediately after graduation. I have a very successful career and have more than made over 10 times my tuition. I have sense went and got my undergrad and grad from UH, but AI will always be the most special and useful. I am very saddened that AI closed. I'm pissed that it screwed over this last generation of students.

I'm a former student and the building is part of a hospital property. Chances are the hospital will repurpose it for medical offices, which was its original intent. The first hospital that was there shut down in 2008, which was three years before AI moved in, but the building was there and was originally going to be doctors' offices for that hospital. The current hospital that is there now will most likely do the same.
