Student Voice BSL Act 2022

Yesterday was a truly special day in our history. The #BSLBill passed its third reading in the House of Lords, meaning it will be legally recognised as a language.
This year, students at the Deaf Academy have been campaigning for their rights as Deaf people. The legal status will require the government and private organisations to uphold standards of accessibility. There are so many reasons why the BSL bill is important, and our students say it best 💙! Here are a few words from our rally in January.

Plenty of people do sign language 🤟 everyday is because they are profoundly deaf 🧏 🧏 in one ☝️ or both ears 👂 👂. I honestly remembered that when I watched Westcountry Live on ITV that a profoundly deaf 🧏‍♀️ 🧏‍♀️ girl 👧 was doing sign language 🤟 because she has limited amount of normal hearing in both ears 👂 👂 that it happened around in the year 1998 is over 25 previous years ago in late ⏰ 2023. She’s a very sweet girl 👧 who has profoundly hearing loss in both ears 👂 👂. 👍👍👍
