Nice video , like the way you count to 5 on the power addition on the take off roll , also you did a great job setting up the radios for the 2nd leg , short leg means things happen quick and you planned for that .. well done on the cross country , good luck with the rest of your training .

Counting to five was the first thing I learned a few years ago and never changed it. Most instructors did not want you jamming in the power. Plus the Diamond gets a little wishy washy when first giving power, it gives me a chance to get established on my rudder inputs. Thanks for watching!

Sounds like that ATC was a bit grumpy

I once landed at Dulles, runway 1R, catching the first taxiway off the active. I asked for instructions to the FBO and was told "Taxi straight ahead for 2 miles and turn left!"

Congratulations, for a student pilot you handle the communications like a professional. Your flying is very smooth, you should if not have already take the IFR course.

Hey! Great job! Lots of issues came up that you handled very well. I’ve got 35 years of flying behind me and I’ll swear the flying is always easy compared to what happens on the ground. Can’t review and study an airport diagram too much. Plan out different scenarios in your head, and with some experience the routings start to become somewhat predictable and less of a surprise. Even airports like Ohare and Newark can be figured out. ATC works for you, always keep a friendly relationship with them and don’t be afraid to use them when you need them. They are after all the operators of the environment that we are just visitors to. They benefit just like you do when things go simple and smooth. I’ve flown with a thousand plus pilots at all kinds of experience levels and skill levels, military and civilian both, and I can promise you that what I see in your videos is the making of a very capable, confident, skilled pilot. Your already there, so continue to forge ahead and get more experience. It’s looking great! If you get a chance, by now you are ready to add in some aerobatic experience. If you really want to push your flight skills to the next level, find some time and money to get a few hours upside down. I can tell from your personality that you have the mental and physical toughness to give that a thorough try. It will greatly improve everything you’ve come to flying for...stick and rudder skills, confidence, maturity, decision making and planning, the list goes on. And it gives you a reason to get up in the air more, and will give you a lot of credibility over your peers.

Never apologize for taking as much runway you can get your hands off. If your engine failed on takeoff, you'd be glad you had the extra few hundred feet.

Thanks for posting this. I recently made a number of taxi faux pas on my second solo from an airport I'd never flown from before. It's comforting to know that others have had struggles with early solos. Fly safe.

My CFI told me getting my license was only a license to learn. Good work.

This was a great entertaining AND educational video. Thank you for sharing your mistakes as well as the other pilots. This helps the rest of us know what to do (and not do) and helps to remind us that none of us are perfect. I'm a few hours from my checkride so really love seeing all the new pilots out there. I took my initial flight training in 1991 in the Houston TX area, I STILL consider myself a student pilot! Remember: if you can't do it safely you shouldn't do it at all!! Great job!

Love watching your videos they are so honest we do not always have to be perfect just safe. This one trip was evidence of several non perfect pilots, keep showing the way it should be done.Congrats on a great cross country!

Safety is my number one priority. I was actually a safety director for 20 years for water skiing events, so it's always in the back of my mind. I know other pilots have their mistakes and don't make fun of that, but it makes us feel a little better that others make mistakes as well. Thanks for liking and watching and by the way, ignore my imperfect typos in the captions too.

I got my PPL in 1981 and still fly and love flying. I flew today in fact. But... I have yet to make a flight that I would call perfect. The point is that you did fine and @Totally Random will too.

Yes, after the solo there is a certain liberty but also a lot of emotions after you spend so much time in the cockpit with your instructor. I made a video about those feelings.

Don’t be too hard on yourself. You did fine in every phase of the flight. Keep practicing/reviewing and it will continue to become second nature.

Such an awesome feeling and experience when you do your 1st solo x country flight. 10 yrs ago while watching a football game a paragliding ad came on. I thought damn that'd be cool to do. I called the local airport to see if they teach people to fly. a cfi said come on over and I'll take you up flying right now. went up for the discovery flight and she gave me the controls at 5000 ft. I was hooked. she said forget the paragliding stuff and just become a real pilot. we landed and I signed up for my sports pilot license. 6 weeks later I was licensed and couldn't believe I was flying allover the country. in 2017 I decided to get my ppl and sadly couldn't get past the medical certificate. I kept at it from 2017 and on until 2 weeks ago I finally got my medical certificate. I am now working on getting my PPL and can't wait to do my solo x country. thanks for posting your experience and congrats.

More videos to come! It is an unfortunate time for all of us. But, being a skill you can do alone, we can still fly the sky. Airports are empty. We pack a lunch, sit on our wing and have a sandwich. It is a strange feeling. I fly with a friend who owns his own Cirrus.

Watching you Laurie, makes me want to get my own Van's RV-12 E-LSA and my sport pilot license. That's some really busy airspace control you have there, being followed and handed off to different ATC's. Have 100 hrs of co pilot in the past 15 months in a retired gents RV-12, and still learning something new, every flight. I think you did well. Also a good example of after the 2nd leg, make a complete stop, take a break, have a soda or water or electrolytes like Gatorade, before you start your last leg, and a chance to relax and clear your head. You did great!

We do have a busy airspace here. A lot of workload. Get your license, it is an amazing skill. I ride co-pilot a lot in a Cirrus. I learn something every flight. Thanks for watching.

Impressive video. Thank you for sharing that, for talking through things, including the audio, your thinking, and the cool text overlays. It’s been over a decade since I took these x-country requirements and I must say I loved yours. You are way more organized with the planning head and staying in front of the airplane than I was when I started. Liking, subscribing, and hoping for more. Keep flying! Thanks for watching. I did not intend to have a great group of followers but happy everyone is enjoying the videos. Putting them together is a lot of time so I hope I can keep making more. Currently working on one about my check ride experience I hope to complete soon. I am using a GOPRO 5 which the audio has failed on me the last five flights so I have not had any videos to share.

Took my first ride on Saturday with a buddy of mine who is a pilot. i gotta say it was an amazing experience . ive been on youtube for the past few days just watching videos like these. i really think i want to start training to become a pilot. i hope things work out and that i will be able to become a pilot eventually.

Totally with you. It was tough and hectic, and mentally full for the ealier long CX when we were student! But good job! You made it.

Going to be going on my long solo soon so this gave me somewhat of a preview of what’s to come. Thanks for sharing! Oh and I found that when I tell them I’m a student pilot, ATC tends to laugh a little bit less.😁

I did tell the tower at Naples it was my first cross country, but really it was my second. I did a short XC a while ago. Good luck on your solo. You will find it a wonderful and exciting experience.

I listened to live ATC for one year before I started training. I was secretly listening to my boyfriend that was getting his license. I can't tell you how much that helped and to this day I still listen to it while I work or just making dinner. Money, yes. I just looked at my budget and said this is how much I can spend per month on flight training and only went once or twice a month. I saved and saved and it took me 2.5 years and last week I passed my checkride!

@@LarjoskiFlyingAway I thought about buying a handheld radio from Sportys to hear my local ATC. Just never did. Now I'm looking at retirement and I'll spend my time building and flying RC airplanes. Congrads on getting your licenses.

To use a runway complete is always a good idea. it gives you security to do things always the same way. and nobody would laugh. my teacher said, always use the hole runway! Well done! was sweating with you.

Awesome video. A little more eventful than my student pilot long cross country but I think you handled it well. I know you beat yourself up on the ground radio work at one airport but as a whole your radio work is very good! Thanks for sharing it and the learnings. Just getting ready for my check ride and learn something on every flight but it's also nice to learn from others as well. Thanks!

About 20 minutes in: It's easy for a new pilot to get task saturated. I've been there too. I know I've annoyed more than a few controllers and fellow pilots but, we learn by our mistakes, some of them very memorable. The more you fly the easier it will get. Good job....

I'm in my first year of law school, so I don't have time right now, but as soon as things slow down I plan to start learning to fly too! You're flying the plane I hope to train in.

Looks like it was a bumpy day. Nice work.

This took me back as I did my long cross country in Florida too, but I did mine back in 1979. Back then we had to get at least one signature from someone at each airport in our logbooks. I guess that was not unusual because all of the people who signed my log book wrote something similar, as if they had done it many times in the past. Each wrote something like, "landed solo at ____" then their name, date and time. I read those names every once in a while and wonder what they're doing today. Thanks for the memories..
