STUCK Silverado spare tire removal the EASY way!!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is the easiest way I have found to remove a spare tire from the gm large SUV and truck line when the secondary patch has gotten stuck.

I was doing a search on how to get my spare tire lowered, all I saw was the channel lock videos until I found your video. The only thing I had to do was use a floor jack with a block on it to hold the tire up on one end, I used the ratchet strap on the other end to hold the tire up. I gave you a one thumps up, I'd give you ten but you're only allowed one. Greatly appreciated, thanks.

I was very lucky as per the Manual I cranked it up tight a couple times and gave it 2 kicks and it released. I then got my grinder and ground off the secondary latch. A short length of pass-link chain and 3/8" SS bolt and nylock™ nut as a safety measure and done. There is a video of a guy who tried many things then chained it to a tree and calmly drove quickly forward. Job done!

Very nice! I'm ready to take the spare off of my '05 to switch on of the other tires to the spare and then clean up the rusted wheel so I can put a new one on it and the truck. I spent 20 minutes trying to crank it down. then another 20 trying to jack it up. Nothing! Saw another video with a couple of girls using channel locks (favorite dumb comment on that one-"Oh yeah, be sure to get the kind (channel locks) that open back up by themselves!" What??) Anyway, watched yours next and tomorrow morning I will get out and try this method. Good job explaining what tiy did and the 'secret tricks' you discovered while doing it. This was another big help from youtube world. Good Job, NMT.

once I remove the spare the first time in my GMC, it will no longer live in that jungle gym, under the truck EVER! It will be one of several places, mostly in the bed which is rarely used, if I do need bed space it will be put in the back seat floor area, or lastly it will be in my garage temporarily till I get my shit together. video helped harden my resolve to never ever replace a spare tire to such a location. you made the best of it, you are a young man full of strength, patience, and physical ability; but that was pretty much a mess which I as an old fart, chose to manage differently. Glad I watched the video' Regards!

06 Sierra 1500 in southern Wisconsin Rust Belt here. This video was a lifesaver. Took more than a little PB Blaster, a big ass screwdriver, hammer, and a whole lot of patience, but I finally got mine busted loose. I’m sure glad I was just dropping my spare in the driveway at home to change my rear shocks, and not trying to do this at night on the side of the highway somewhere. I’d love to punch the engineer who signed off on this square in the balls!

Thanks a ton, really, this was making me crazy. Got it down and used an angle grinder to eliminate the latch and fixed this forever, if I'm worried about the tire falling out I'll use a ratchet strap for security - you'd need one along anyway. And what's with the down votes?? Didn't think that many GM engineers were involved in this design effort :-O

a way that just worked for me was removing the rear license plate, you can then see the latch. lowering the wire until the spring just comes loose, then putting a floor jack under the center and jack it up until most of the tension is off the latch. then stuck a long crowbar on the latch mechanism and gave it a couple hammer taps and it dropped. you might have to spin the tire to get the right side of the latch facing you.

Just ran into this issue last week. Watched a few videos and decided to try this one first. Worked good. Really like the strap idea. Glad this happened at home while showing my boy how to take the spare down and not on the roadway. Only thing that i think I will change is instead of relying on WD40, I will probably cut the secondary off the cable altogether. Would buy a properly built aftermarket unit but it was $300 and that is more then the old truck is worth.

Nice vid and referenced it to remind me how the latch works. I did spray paint the bottom of the latch housing on the latch side as a reference for which side to place the jack to remove, which allows me to skip the strap. But I still carry a strap just in case.

Way to go, this is the pro way of doing it! The channel lock way is stupid compared to your one man army set up! Cheers my dude!
