Although I would not recommend doing this as it gets rid of the safety function of a seatbelt, the video did allow me to see how the system works via electromagnet and by sticking a magnet to the round tube that holds all of the ball bearings I was able to get the seatbelt on stuck and back to functioning order.

Yeah, this just makes the belt retract freely regardless of speed or inertia. These are dangerous videos that should be taken off KZread, a seat belt like this will not prevent you from flying into your windshield, or being ejected from your car.

Actually, removing the pretensioning firing balls from the unit allows it to work again. The 2nd ball he removed is the roll over ball, and completely un-necessary to remove. The unit will work as designed, just the firing pretensioner is not loaded.

He removed the locking mechanism! It unlocks the seatbelt and now won’t lock when you need it, like in a collision. Send your seatbelt to a professional company to have it properly repaired. It doesn’t cost that much (1/4th cost of a new seat belt from the dealership) and will function the way it was designed to. If you are in an accident you will be glad you spent $100 to have it repaired properly. If you follow this guys video you could die or be a complete mess in a collision. Don’t follow his video.

So my passenger seat belt in a 2013 Subaru Impreza sport locked up. I tried unbolting the bottom part of the belt to give it slack and see if it would reset and give me more belt but it just locked up more of the belt. Will this tutorial work? Are all these pieces pretty much the same regardless of manufacturer? I’m not too keen on needing to spend an extra 500 bucks for a dealer to ‘fix’ something if I can do it myself.

i dunno man arguably seatbelts have to be one of the top three safety features of a car so if one fails and you value safety the logic goes you should replace it with a proper real oem part properly installed instead of trying to rehab or tool around with it at home. do you want to save a few hundred dollars or do you value doing everything that you can to minimize someone from dying or getting hurt? that's your call. i 100% break warranties but i believe in personal responsibility so eish safety critical stuff like that i just pay i don't want to have to think about what if, as remote as it is that something would go bad. but i also lived in the third world and not everyone lucky like me so i don't judge other people's economics.

I just did mine before watching this video. Then I was looking for video to see if there was another better way of doing it but he did it the same way that I did. As for your question, yes it still locks because on the other side of the belt where did didn’t remove any parts it has another mechanism that locks the seatbelt when you pull it hard. I believe that mechanism will work fine for a light crash but for harder crashes thats when the mechanism with the balls engages. When I put everything back together it was making a weird metal scratching noise. But after a couple of pulls the noise went away.

Congrats, you just completed defeated the purpose of your seatbelt. The next accident you’re in will likely be your last. Why don’t you send the seatbelt off to a company that specializes in repairing them PROPERLY? This video is dangerous. Don’t follow this guy’s instructions your seatbelt will no longer lock and therefore will not protect you in an accident. You will hit your steering wheel/windshield/dash hard and possibly collide with your airbag as it’s deploying. Defeating the lock will allow the seatbelt to spool out until there is no more web to spool or your body and head hit something hard and stop pulling on the web. You’re going to regret doing this or die as a result. Don’t do it.
