Stuck in Space: Boeing Starliner Glitches Leave Sunita Williams Orbiting | Firstpost Tech & Trade
The Boeing Starliner spacecraft launched its first crewed test flight from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida on June 5. Over a month later, the spacecraft remains docked at the International Space Station (ISS), with Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams and her crewmate Barry Wilmore aboard. Initially planned for just a few days, NASA and Boeing have extended the astronauts' stay on the ISS thrice. In their latest update, NASA didn't provide a return date for the Starliner. The space agency is now reportedly considering extending the mission from 45 to 90 days due to technical issues. During its journey to the ISS, the Starliner experienced helium leaks and thruster failures. Despite these problems, officials maintain that the spacecraft is safe for the astronauts' return. This incident isn't isolated to Boeing spacecraft. The company's aircraft division has faced several safety mishaps this year, leading to increased scrutiny of its manufacturing processes. Now, it seems Boeing's space venture may be encountering similar challenges to its aerospace business.

Both NASA and Boeing knew of this problem prior to launch. Yet they proceeded with the launch anyways. Boeing should be sued for allowing this craft to be launched even though they knew it had problems. Plus they should not be able to push the cost of the judgment against them onto their customers. The same thing should be said about NASA, sue the hell out of them and not allow NASA to recoup the dollars by getting an increase in their budget to cover the judgment against them.
