I cannot wrap my mind around the bravery that it took Rich Eisen to go on the air, and not only announce the passing of his dear friend and colleague, but on international television to say things like, "I loved this man... I still love this man." That is beautiful in a way that words can't adequately express, and indicative of the impact that he had on everybody he touched in his time on his Earth.

nothing hits harder than Rich Eisen. dude did the impossible. the unthinkable. he announced to the world that one of his closest friends died. And did it with class and dignity. You can’t write it better than he said it. 🙏

I remember when I first heard and seen Stuart Scott on SportsCenter and he was saying, "HOLLER!!" and "BOOYAH!!" and I remember saying to myself and others that he wouldn't be on TV long because he's a black man speaking how we speak in the streets or at home. I didn't think ESPN would allow him to continue, maybe they would tell him to scale it back a bit or whatever but I'm SO glad they didn't because I tuned in EVERY NIGHT to see and hear him say those things. He changed the game and now its a whole lot of Stuart wannabes out there but he is the undisputed king of "hip-hop" sports commentary. WE LOVE YOU STUART and WE MISS YOU!! Rest in Peace.

I was a teenager in the 90’s. Most sporting events were on network TV then. Stuart Scott changed ESPN from some cable network that I didn’t ever watch to can’t miss television every night. He didn’t just talk about sports. He talked about them the way that my friends and I did. My dad wasn’t as in to him. He didn’t get it. Stuart Scott is one of those people who spoke for a generation. And, by all accounts, he was a genuinely good guy off camera as well.

the crazy thing about that speech he gave at the ESPY's ... less than 6 months before he died ... was that it basically shouldn't have happened. He literally had just been released from the hospital, and flew cross-country to get that award. I'm convinced he KNEW how little time he had left and went despite doctor's orders.
