Check out Washburn guitars and basses at Sweetwater here: www.sweetwater.com/store/manuf...
Stu Hamm visited Sweetwater for a special bass workshop with the help of Washburn. Stu Hamm's unmatched bass-playing skills were exposed to a national audience while recording and performing with such hailed guitarists as Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Frank Gambale. Later recordings and collaborations with Satriani and other rock/fusion artists, as well as his solo career, solidified his stellar reputation among bassists and guitarists alike, earning him a place in bass history.
Enjoy the workshop, then click the link above to learn more about Washburn basses and guitars!

I saw Steve's band with Stu in 1983/84 at a club/bar when they first started out. I already knew about Steve from Zappa, but Stu just killed it... he is so talented. Very proud to see them back then.

Very inspiring. I actually met Stu last year at a music shop before I really got into him. Very nice and I even got to take a photo with him. And he played just like this for about an hour and I sat second row. Awesome!

Wow, I'm completely stunned! I didn't know Stu was such technically an accomplished player! I only knew him as Joe Satch's bassist, and most of the Things he does in those records sound "accessible".

  • @jeanounou

Of course man, to play with Joe and Steve you must know your way around the bass, that's for sure, but still you don't expect Rock band bassists to be exactly Victor Wooten, do you? Take two of them at random: say Iron Maiden's Steve Harris that Stu mentions here, or RHCP's Flea. These are two world class Rock acts, and those two bassists can do fast picking and slapping and it is great, but Stu is beyond that, for he is into two-hand tapping and melody chord playing, and it is awesome! Anyway, it is not entirely my fault that I didn't notice before. Stu himself kind of acknowledges that he didn't really shine as a bassist in those Joe Satch and early Steve Vai records, and he explains the reasons at around 1:07:00.

Edouard Gahini Stu may not personally 'compose' memorable music that many people like but as a bass player he can hold down 'ANY BAND' playing any music. He is one of the most accomplished musicians to play the instrument.

  • @funkingitup1441

Edouard Gahini You're a good dude, but Steve Harris or Flea are far more technically competent than you are giving them credit for. Flea is not just slap; he is extremely melodic. You need to be exposed to a bit more of his playing. Just as Stu can do stuff they can't do, they can do stuff Stu can't. I guarantee you Stu would admit this much. They are all virtuoso musicians with utterly different sounds.
