STS 1 April 10th 1981 Launch Attempt (40th Anniversary)
The 1st launch attempt and scrub for STS-1 on April 10th 1981.
I have taken the network coverage and used only audio or video which pertains to the NASA coverage.
This is, I believe the only record of this event in this form

I love you tube because of posts like these
On launch day there's nothing I like better than chillin' in my suit sinking back into my custom leather Astro-Lounger®
I bet Columbia wasn’t happy about getting scrubbed, she just wanted to fly after so long. Thanks for uploading :)
I was in the 5th grade at this time in 1981 and my teacher had the old black and white TV on throughout the day for us to watch with the volume level down but just enough for us to hear anything important.
I remember this very well. I was there. Me and my then fiance scored VIP passes at the last minute. As in just a couple of hours before we had to check-in at the pick-up location at a motel in Titusville to catch one of the buses in (in the middle of the night). I remember that countdown clock stuck at 9 minutes forever. Was so disappointed when they scrubbed the launch as there was no way we could get back on the rescheduled date.
Lunarmodule5...my wife and kids are complaining that I’m spending more time with you than them the last couple of days! 😂😂 As always, another mighty fine job!

Oh no!
I video taped the first 14 launches. I didn't get cable TV until summer 1986 and broadcast channels stopped covering the launches until STS-51L
I remember it well, it was my birthday, April 10th and I was so disappointed when it was scrubbed.

Watched this live at the age of 15. A little disappointed it didn't launch at the first attempt. Strange to know it is already withdrawn several years now.
Thank you, Simon!

40 yrs marking the 1st Flight of the Most Dangerous Spacecraft ever designed/flown, well Voskhod 1, was lass Dangerous
SR71 steak and eggs, SR71 suit, SR71 ejection seat. Funny thing, it would had been all useless in an ascent abort because the window where they could eject was extremely small
I've never watcher the scrubbed launch attempt of STS-1. I'm gonna fix that real soon 😊

42:53 PAO discusses the problem with the backup computer. 44:37 Announcement of the official decision to scrub.
24:35 20 hours is a long crew duty day... Let's do a once-around abort with fresh astronauts, please...
What was the glitch in computer 5?

The backup flight software (bfs) listens to flight critical data bus transactions in the event of needing to takeover. One of the transaction is network signal processor reads, which is the transaction the receives uplinked commands. Bfs expects those transactions to take place at very specific times and is synchronously scheduled. Primary flight software was asynchronously scheduled and the start of the timer was based on the halt/standby/run switch being moved from standby to run. There was a one in 60 chance that moding primary to run would cause incorrect timing of the nsp transaction. So the fault was with primary flight software, not bfs. I was there. I supported bfs for rockwell international. Reloading the bfs did not change the incorrect timing, so the problem persisted.
