Ah. RIP Tony Sly. I really really like this record. The Tony Sly tribute record that this Strung Out cover is just filled with great No Use For a Name covers.

I absolutely love both of these bands, they're two of the best punk/skatepunk bands to ever exist in my opinion. BUT I have to say for me No Use For A Name just edge this being the original and the version I fell in love with all those years ago! This will forever be Tony's song and Tony's lyrics and his vocal delivery is just perfect for me and I love the pace and overall tone and sound of the NUFAN version just that little bit more. Saying that I also completely love what Strung Out did with their cover and it sounds absolutely brilliant aswell and they certainly made it their own! Both of these versions are absolutely top class and flawless skatepunk/melodic punk masterpieces, but for me the No Use For A Name version just edges it being the original and hearing Tony's sweet vocals blasting out his wonderful lyrics is one of the greatest pleasures in music for me! 😊 Two awesome bands playing an amazing song in what for me is and always will be the best style of music. This song was the one that introduced me to NUFAN way back on the Punk Sucks comp. It prompted me to buy Leche Con Carne which had so many fantastic songs and got me into the band in a big time. That said… Strung Out have been my favorite band since that same comp and Support Your Troops. They did an amazing job on this cover.

When Tony Sly passed away, Fat Wreck Chords organized a HUGE Tony Sly tribute CD for charity with A LOT of excellent bands covering No Use For A Name and Tony Sly solo songs in many different styles. It's called "The Songs of Tony Sly: A Tribute" and in my opinion is the best tribute album EVER.
