Regarding my cracks, where do I go, besides my lawyer’s office for potential pre-litigation advice, to get a definitive answer? Hopefully not, Boston.

Hello, I have removed my carpet and tack strips in preparation to have new flooring put in my house. My question is the edges below my baseboards are have crumbled pieces of concrete. Is this considered structural?

Hey. I’m in an apartment. The room is large. There are two outlines along the top of the walls that are likely beams. I noticed that the paint on one beam is cracked moderately and the paint is peeling off. Any ideas? I think has been here for a while. I have poor vision so I generally have not noticed it until someone pointed it out.

If it's slab it's sometimes settlement and sometimes from extreme heat/cold expansion issues. I had that happen to mine. Some self leveler fixed it

I live in Clovis ca and yesterday we had a mild earquake. Today I went outside and saw thin hair diagonal cracks around windows and doors and also on the wall too. They are horizontal, diagonal and some vertical cracks too. I do not recall seeing these cracks before so iam thinking they happened after earquake. Should I be worry about them? They pretty much go in all directions. House was built in 2005 and its a one story house about 1550 square feet

Would a vertical crack in 8 courses of brick above the very center of the lintel above a two car garage indicate a structural or a non structural crack? If it is a three year old house with a two year warranty is it considered a construction defficiency?

Freddie, that is typically a completely different issue when the crack is above the lintel. That usually comes from improper construction of the lintel above the garage door. Most of the time its because the lintel was not properly fastened to the door header above the door. It is usually a pretty easy and very affordable fix.

Most places will likely have a 5g minimum I install carbon fiber often probably cheapest option but do your research if not done right its dooky on the wall

Hey Dave I have a question for you. If I had a some small cracks on my block concrete wall in the basement, and I was going to Epoxy carbon fiber straps onto the wall, do I absolutely need to grind off the paint? I know that is the standard but have you actually seen repairs fail due to the fact that somone didn't grind off the paint first? Thank you for any feedback I appreciate it.

David, yes you will need to grind the wall very well. If you are doing anything with carbon fiber then prep work is VERY VERY important. Actually prep work is the most important thing when it comes to carbon fiber. The wall must be extremely clean and ground down. Hope that helps

@@MrPintail55 Thanks Dave. I legitimately appreciate the feedback so much. Ok pretty please 1 more question sir. I have a stairstep crack in my concrete block wall along the GROUT LINE, but it is very small. Literally I would say it is between 1/16 and 1/8 of an inch. I can't fit my fingernail in it it is so small small. Is this guaranteed to develop into a big issue if I do NOTHING? Again, along the grout line. Thanks again you rock!

Unfortunately it’s to tough to tell. Usually cracks are from some sort of underlying issue (not always but usually) so my advice would be to mark the crack (maybe try some duct tape) and then watch it. If it grows or changes at all then I would recommend to have a professional look at it and give their opinion. Good luck and take care.

I have been looking at houses and there seems to be this massive paranoia about foundation issues, as if is the most serious thing wrong with the house. Any house that has foundation issues is avoided like the plague by buyers. Is this an overreaction. Seems most can be fixed easily with a few thousand, and the most serious ones can be solved by $20-40,000 dollars.

Once again we're not talking absolutes here leave it open on it so nobody can prove me right or wrong

1/4 (the first minute) of the video is wasted, stating structural vs non-structural, and the intro music/graphics.

Truth is, homes built in USA are junk. Builders take the money and run, along with useless warranty. There is no foundation except for the floating concrete slab which moves with seasons. Concrete by its nature is porous and as such moves. Cracks are not only normal, they are expected. Then they put 2 x 4 wood stick frame on top of it, rain or shine. Plywood on top of that, followed by tar paper roof, and shit rock for interior walls. There is no waiting. Process is rushed. Take a look one Sunday afternoon, visit construction site, see what is happening. You'll feel sick to your stomach. Later, when cracks start to show they will blame you, the homeowner. I am sure the 3 little pigs built better homes...and showed more pride of workmanship.

What are foundations build out of where you’re from? And a slab is a slab a foundation is a foundation. Most homes in the US are build on footers with basement walls..
