I see a lot of people saying this is overpriced or Traxxas it’s price gouging. While I agree it’s very expensive and maybe they are overcharging, without knowing all the costs from the beginning of development to it being on store shelves, I think it’s a little unfair to assume it’s unreasonably priced. Especially with the current state of supply and demand for everything. Also assemblies that come apart and go back together very easily is always a good sign of quality design and production. This is true for pretty much everything, not just this transmission. Traxxas has a history of bringing out new performance parts that are initially overpriced and then they drop the price. Let’s hope that’s the case here

The drag slash axles are short b/c they're made to work with the bandit rear arms.

How about the RPM hybrid transmission as an alternative? I just got that and got a bunch of goodies to make something like this… a full set of Protek RC ceramic bearings in it (even the slipper clutch bearing), Traxxas top drive gear assembly (for drag slash, the new pressed/keyed top shaft setup), Hot Racing Sealed planetary differential (with a fresh/new set of internal planet gears from Traxxas), new pressure plates from Traxxas, a slipper clutch rebuild kit (with stock Traxxas pads and a set of Aluminum pads and carbon fiber pads from Hot Racing to check which I prefer the feel of), Hardened Steel Idler Gear from Hot Racing, an uprated Idler Gear Shaft from DragRace Concepts, and a Dynamite Stainless Steel Screw kit (would’ve gone with RC Screwz but it isn’t in stock for who know how long every time I seen it it’s not in stock).. I’ll be using either 20k or 50k diff oil from Mugen.. it’s going in a Rustler XL-5 with hobbywing ezrun max10 (3200kv 3652 g2 motor) set up for racing at my local track (I’ll be running it at track and in my yard when spring/summer weather comes back and on 2s)… nothing really fancy but fun and drivable

First run was impressive on 2s! Carbon fiber pads for the clutch (they’re grippy yes but need to break them in over a pack or 2 i hear you get them consistent and not need tightening/tuning as much), redo the drive ratio. (Rn it’s running 86/19 and it’s topping out too quick as the motor has plenty of power and it’s still ice cold after running 5-10 minutes so i know it can be geared more as I’ll swap on a 21 or more aggressively up to a 22 maybe even a 23 and see what happens! It’s very smooth and with I think I filled the diff with 20k and I already love how it feels! Very sure footed and especially super consistent unlike the stock grease filled differential! I’m gonna this spring drop in a fresh 3s LiPo to see what it can really do before and after gearing swap… and gotta tear down the motor a little to make sure bearings are nice and oil them good (all 4 rear wheel bearings were shot and gritty as hell.. Tekno m6 cvd kit and just got only standard Tekno bearings I wish I could’ve looked more to get ceramic bearings but she’s all good now and efficient!).. I’ll keep y’all updated best I can

@@markoftheus I think the challenge with off road is when the truck becomes airborne at full throttle, the wheels and motor get to max rpm then when it lands the wheels suddenly slow significantly but all that momentum in the motor sends a shock through the drivetrain. This is what breaks parts I think, more than just strait power. Loosening the slipper clutch helps reduce broken parts, but also gives up power.

I suggest getting better tires for more grip. The 2wd stampede and bigfoot have a fair bit of understeer with the stock tires. It can also help to slow down a bit before turns to let the front end settle and regain traction.

Take the center driveshaft out. Remove the 4 screws holding the rear assembly to the chassis and pull the rear off. Next, pull out the slipper clutch or center diff. Slide the center driveshaft out and reassemble in reverse order. Note: if you have a center diff, fill it with the thickest silicone oil you can find or replace it with a slipper clutch.

The stock diff was the weak link! The planetary gears are garbage! When I pulled the trigger the proline pro 32 was only option! I paid 120.00 haven’t broken it in over 2 years! I was replacing diffs every outing on 3s and 4s! Mip axles and large tires just destroy them stock gears. One would think Traxxas would be a little closer to proline pricing. Crazy the slipper looks same too? You would at least think that would have changed!
