Stronger and Faster: V8 Solenoid Engine
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In the past I have made a 1 cilinder solenoid engine and a V4 solenoid engine. They turned out really cool, but today I’m going to improve on it by making a V8 solenoid engine.
To improve it I not only double the amount of solenoids I’m also going to make the crankshaft on my cnc mill and use infrared sensors for the switching of the solenoids.
Specs:
- Voltage: 12V
- Spool wire used: 0,4 mm diameter
- Estimated wire length per spool: 40 meter
- Spool resistance: 5 ohm
- Max rpm measured: 1000RPM

Very cool project Emiel! Enjoyed watching this in-spite of the fact I’ll likely never attempt this. Really enjoyed hanging out and chauffeuring you around in Atlanta. As for Dutch. mate this is a wonderful project, i am so curious about these engines i want so much to build one of these and test it, maybe even trying it on a rc airplane
Your video is touching. What kind of product did the infrared sensor use? Recommend the link.

Hey thanks! welcome to the channel.
I like the idea of you switching to Dutch because it is easier for you but I would prefer if you instead spoke in Dutch and made a dutch version of your vid but in the same vid you did a voiceover in English and uploaded that instead so that way everything is still fast and you don’t have to think before you speak but English speaker fans can still understand you and listen without having to resort to subtitles, I understand that is more work for you though.
@Thepracticalengineer
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion. I see your point and I have been (and still am) thinking about ways to also incorporate the international public. I do indeed have limited time so right now I'm focussing on this change. When that is established I'm going to look for the other options
12:01 Nice job. your face of satisfaction and happiness haha greetings
Very interesting! Question. Did you do any diagnostics on this to see what the current draw is on average for the system?
@Thepracticalengineer
4 жыл бұрын
Hey, Thanks! each solenoid pulls about two amps or a bit more. there are always two solenoids engaged at the same time, and sometimes 4 so it draws between 5 and 10 amps
I speak English but subtitles won't stop me from enjoying these videos
@Thepracticalengineer

COOL!😎
This is awesome, keep doing them in Dutch! One question; how many hours did this take to make?
@Thepracticalengineer
4 жыл бұрын
The actual build was two or three days. Not counting the fact that I had to redo all the spools
How hard would it be to scale up and use mass produced parts like the connecting rods for a weedwacker or model aircraft engine parts?
@Thepracticalengineer
4 жыл бұрын
Dat is goed om te horen! Ik ben er zelf ook erg tevreden over. Ik leer zelf ook het meeste online, dus ik zal ook af en toe wel wat specifieke woorden moeten opzoeken ;)
Can you set it so that polarity of rack solenoid switches so that it pushes and pulls that would increase efficiency torque and balance
what kind of part are you using to control the motors? (the mosfet part)
I don't mind you switching to Dutch since I as a German can still understand it. Keep up this great content! 👍
@Thepracticalengineer
4 жыл бұрын
Haha, It works the same the other way around! Being Dutch I can follow most German conversations
This guy is like the solo hacksmith
You must to rotate the engine in the first time ? Is it self starting ?
Me gustó mucho
I got the gist with just watching your video as I could figure it out. That said, I'm not experienced in Germanic languages besides English as most of my experience living in Ontario, Canada so we are more exposed to the Romance languages (particularly French and Spanish). Ironically, I'm 3/4 German heritage, since three of my grand parents were of German heritage by their family or maiden names. I digress, I felt a bit of pain watching your endmill bit snap and thinking of times where I've had that happen with drill bits boring into metal. I've always liked the sound of these engines as they kinda have that Diesel or fast rotating steam engine sound.
Another great video! Is there any way to measure the power the engine produces (in torque, fractional horsepower, Newtons, etc.)? Bij voorbaat dank!
@Thepracticalengineer
4 жыл бұрын
There are probably multiple ways. If I was going to do it I would put a wheel to it and see how much energy it generates when stopping it with the wheel. However I now measured it by hand and determined its not a whole lot.
I'll keep watching either way, your projects speak for themselves, one small request, dont talk so fast if your gonna switch I can't read that fast, lol
@Thepracticalengineer
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! that is nice to hear! I'll do my best to slow it down.
Hi, how are you i hope you're fine. I would like to know if this kind of engine is more and ic engine or a electric engine as his power efficincy by constances at rhe rpm, also by all his moving parts and also if it can mount gearbox or its unnecesary
What's the difference bw copper wire and insulated copper wire ???? And also what kind wire is used in motor coils ???? Is it insulated copper wire or just copper wire
I love that your doing videos in Dutch since I'm trying to learn it slowly and I can somewhat understand it cause German. And subtitles are fine for the rest. However maybe put the subtitles In the video directly since how KZread does It, it Sometimes covers important parts. And it would be really great if the timing and splitting were a bit better since it's really hard to follow like this at the moment. I don't know how your currently making the subtitles but if you're in need of a good program Aegisub is really good. I can't see if you have it enabled or not but I think there is an option for the community to create subtitles in KZread.
@Thepracticalengineer
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the elaborate answer! I'm working on improving my subtitles. I did them myself this time and it can be quite the challenge to get all the timings right. They will improve in the future.
Great project! I can really relate to the spontaneous thing with the languages. I also feel like I get constrained or "stiffened up" when talking in English. I find it a bit harder to follow along when I have to constantly read subtitles though.
