Strong Line of Thunderstorms - Pompton Plains, NJ June 30, 2024

Today was yet another classic set up for severe weather across much of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. We had an off-the-charts amount of instability and moisture in the air with temperatures in the 90s and dewpoints in the upper-70s to around 80 degrees, and this along with strong wind shear and an approaching cold frontal passage provided plenty of fuel for thunderstorms to blossom, and that they did across most of the region. My town got directly by a slightly bowed-out thunderstorm line which signifies very strong winds in the storm, and sure enough when the storm went through we had a downburst with wind gusts around 40-50 MPH and very heavy rainfall which brought us around 0.43 inches of very beneficial rain with the storm itself, and then an additional 0.17 inches later in the evening with additional heavy showers behind the main line. The storm also brought the temperature down from the upper-80s to the low-70s in just 15 minutes time. Overall, Today's storm was thankfully not as strong or damaging as the storm we had on Wednesday, but it still packed a punch.
