In this video, we'll take a look at whether or not it's worth it to strip copper wire. We'll discuss the pros and cons of this side hustle, and give you an idea of what you'll need to get started.Do you have a copper wire lying around that you're not using? Or do you have a way of getting it? We'll take a look at whether or not it's worth it to strip copper wire, and figure out how much money you can make.
In the video I strip copper romex cable, copper service cable, fabric coated cable, aluminum triplex. and give the breakdown of how much you can make in profit for each one.

    Working as an industrial electrician, I get literally tons of copper wire ranging from #2 to 500 MCM. I have the same wire stripper and I loosely make about $800 to $1000 an hour on average. I fill 25 gallon barrels at approx 1000 to 1100 lbs each when packed full. I will generally fill 4 barrels before taking them to the scrap yard. Takes about 4 months to fill the 4 barrels as I just strip wire in my spare time, maybe 3 or 4 five to eight hour days a month. I make about 40k a year and generally pays for Holiday/Birthday gifts for all my kids/spouse, any trips or vacations away from home through out the year and I generally put 5k to 10k in savings per year. And no, I do not steal the wire... I work in the mining industry which is ever changing for conveyors etc and none of the wire can be reused. If I did not scrap it, it would be tossed in the dumpster.

    Nice dude, glad to hear it! Yeah much easier to make a lot when stripping bigger shit than Romex. But also you’re probably not taking into account the value before hand as I did here. Regardless if you buy it or get it free, it still has value at the scrap yard unstripped so I subtracted that.

    From my time stocking shelves overnight in a large retail store i learned the best way to be efficient is to not switch between tasks. A task being opening a box, stocking the shelf, or any 1 single action. I cant tell, but if youre running it through and then peeling it might be faster to run everything, then peel everything. Just a thought from my own experience.

    Yeah that was my initial thoughts too and that’s what I did. Problem is it gets tangled up and hard to get apart after. It almost like knots up.

    I made a killing stripping wire back in the day. These strippers used to be thousands. One 2x4 later with every size hole drilled in it and an attached razor blade I could strip several hundred feet as fast as I could pull.

    Haha yeah they used to be super expensive. I had something similar about 10 years ago, it was a hand pull metal stripper but even that was like $100 back then. Now this was like $300 delivered so can’t complain

    Very nice! Didn't know there were big machines for big wires but it makes sense. Hoping you can do it long term! I wonder if eventually you'll settle for buying and selling items or wire stripping?

    It's all about timesaving steps. I built a device that strips the insulation off for me immediately after the stripmeister.

    Electricians. Just pay them the same as the scrap yard for insulated and make the money stripping it.

    So question lets just say for ease of numbers a roll of romex you would pay an electrician 10 bucks for to strip which in our scenario is the same thing the scrap yard would pay them for it. Then you strip it are you saying the copper by itself is worth more at the scrap yard than the 10 bucks?

  • @Analog_money

    @Analog_money

    Yeah the numbers are at the end are ONLY how much the VALUE INCREASES after stripping. So that accounts for how much more it is worth but also how much weight is lost due to insulation. Hope that makes sense!

    Hahahahahaha so funny you say that, I’m actually super aware of that and have informed countless people of it IRL. But I’m not an expert so I choose wisely what I share as fact on here. ( But regardless being outside as I was should reduce risk (possibly eliminate, once again not an expert). And really when asbestos studies were done the form that it was in played a huge roll.
