    Thanks Mate. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain how to search for these things and get the right one. I'm restoring a 1982 Suzuki GS750T and when I saw threads hanging out the bottom of the oil pan after removing the plug... Well, let's just say I wasn't looking forward to fixing it. This looks like the answer. Thanks again and in the 4 years since you made this video, I hope you've got through those tough times.

    Awesome. Please remember to torque the bolt down to spec. The oversized plug can easily strip the pan again.

    Put a thread insert .. 10 minute job .This can mess up completely the threads . By the way always hand tighten it so it's not cross threaded .You don't need a torque wrench just mark with a marker the position of bolt

    Just remember to use a torque wrench with the proper torque spec so that you don’t strip it. You will forever have to torque wrench it.

    I have a question maybe you can clear the air on this since you done it first hand for instances on my dirt bike the original drain plug leaks oil and I'm sure it's stripped so on the bike it has a Oil Drain Plug M12 x 1.50mm right now when I purchase a Oversize Oil Drain Plug do I get the same size M12 x 1.50mm or a step up M14 x 1.150mm? Thanks.

    You will get the same plug, so in your case it will be the 12Mx1.50mm.

    Everytime you do an oil change do you replace that oversized drain plug with a new one? Or do you keep the same oversize plug

  • @xlightssx

    @xlightssx

    You keep the same one, just be very careful to not over tighten it. I recommend purchasing a torque wrench and torquing it down to specs.

    Jorge Villa some lube shops have a policy in place to refuse lube service on any vehicle with an oversized drain plug. I changed the oil on my motor cycle and reused the oversized drain plug with no issues. But you bring up a point, you should notify any technician of the oversized drain plug before they begin lube service. Because, if they accidentally cross thread or over tighten the oversized drain plug, 9 times out of 10 you will more than likely need to replace the oil pan or Helicoil in some new threads, leading to a more costly repair. My advice is to call other reputable shops in your area, and ask if they can service your vehicle with an oversized drain plug.

    I think you are saying that the screw hole is not completely stripped? If that is the case, then yes, just screw it in. Set it to the appropriate torque spec. Don’t over tighten.

    I'm about to walk down the road to buy one of these things as last night I ruined the thread on my oil pan. From other videos i watched, a thread tapping kit requires hand drilling and installing of a new thread, the oversized plug just needs a very slow hand tightening and seems to cut a new thread on its own, my only other concern is what happens to the metal shavings cut from the pan once the plug is installed. Having said this I've never done this before and I'm probably in the same situation as you.

  • @xlightssx

    @xlightssx

    No drilling, just screw it in like a normal bolt. you will have some slight resistance, as the bolt cuts in the new threads.

    @@_deadcruiser I read somewhere, that a magnet is used then drain the oil once more and after is empty to use one of those thin screw drivers with a magnet at the tip, to get any remaining shavings. Good luck!
