Thanks, appreciate the kind words. I can’t wait to get into some white bass soon
By the way - that last comment was only meant as a suggestion. Keep making your vids. Fisherman can’t get enough.

Should have used the trout for bait, striper love trout
@MichaelKaal-TriFisher

I only use Trout for bait in the warmer months of the year. During the winter, Striper prefer to feed on smaller sized threadfin around 2-3 inches long. At the end of the spring, when the water temps rise, they switch to larger Baits.

@@MichaelKaal-TriFisher I have always done extremely well on trout where they stock them in East Tennessee so much

@@jordonpratt2604 Agreed, I have no doubt you can catch them year round on Trout. I just follow the feeding habits and use the bait they feed on per season. Seems like this time of year is the most effective time to use trout.
Mike, how deep do you normally troll for striper on Boone Lake?
@MichaelKaal-TriFisher
2 жыл бұрын
When it’s cold I typically troll 15 to 5 feet deep. At least to the zones I like to fish. Early in the morning and late in the day at Sunrise and sunset you can find them up high feeding on Shad at the surface
Do you have recommendations on bait from a kayak? I can throw a small net but I think the big deep net would be a little much for me to handle.
@MichaelKaal-TriFisher
2 жыл бұрын
Are you asking what baits to use that you can buy from the store or where to throw the smaller Castnet? Right now all the bait are up within the 15 foot range so you may be able to get Bait wherever there are seagulls. A lot of people will use shiners or trout minnows as well
I went to Boone TVA on Washington's Birthday (mine too) But TVA decided to repave and re stripe the lot. I put the kayak in near hamilton rd/anchor point. caught nothing, but a beautiful day. 3/4 I tried again of the deep pool across from TVA launch. nothing again. I reference depth charts, but I don't have a fish finder. Using shiners varying 35 -15 foot deep and casting a plastic shad jerk. I was thinking it is "winter" and stripers are laying in the deep near the dam. But seeing the fish you just caught, they are looking pre-spawn and are probably starting to move up stream now?
@MichaelKaal-TriFisher
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, in the last few weeks the shad went from deep to shallow. I think they’ll be on the move very soon if they aren’t already. I would start fishing 15 to 20 feet deep and covering water between mile marker six and seven

@@MichaelKaal-TriFisher thanks. I might need to break down and buy that tracker to get there however... I'll launch from winged deer when the move up.
Any luck with catfish on Boone?

Which side is better, Watuaga or Holston?
@MichaelKaal-TriFisher
Жыл бұрын
That depends on what time of year you’re fishing for a Striper. In the winter time, I prefer the fish in the middle toward the South Holston Side. In the spring, you can find them running up both sides. In the summer you can find them down deep where the water is coldest full of oxygen.
Catch and cook? :)

We definitely cooked it, but it was more like a few cell phone shots. Looking forward to doing an in-depth one in the future
What depth would I need to troll this time of year? Mid summer…🥵
@MichaelKaal-TriFisher
2 жыл бұрын
Well, there’s a couple different ways to approach it this time of year. The striper most likely are feeding early in the morning or late in the evening at sunrise and sunset and all night as well. During those times you can troll very shallow with no weight. Mid day however a lot of people prefer to downrig by dropping down bait to the very bottom and then pulling it up a couple feet off the bottom and letting it suspend. I’ll be attempting a Striper video this evening so I’ll keep you posted
