Strings Sessions: Alexi Kenney Performs with the 1714 'Joachim-Ma' Stradivarius Violin
With the 1714 ‘Joachim-Ma’ Strad in tow, violinist Alexi Kenney stopped by the Strings studio to perform Baroque-era music.
The recent Avery Fisher Award Career Grant winner owns a Greiner violin at home, but was loaned the Joachim-Ma by the New England Conservatory. Kenney performed Nicola Matteis’ ‘Fantasia in C minor,’ and Johann Paul von Westhoff’s ‘Suite No. 2 in A major.’

Alexi the Great. Hope to hear him sometime soon.❤
This is so beautiful. Thank you. The Stradivarius belonged to my chamber music professor, Ma Si-hon. His wife, Tung Kwong-Kwong, was my piano teacher for years. They were incredible musicians and a lovely couple. I wanted to hear this amazing violin once more. Thank you for this beautiful music.
I absolutely adore the way you play!
The fiddle sounds great, the playing is excellent, the lisp is charming, the face is beautiful...Perfect video!
This was a beautiful experience-to listen to a wonderful ,full of positive energy performance of those gems.Thank you!!!
so beautiful!!!!!!!!!
Mein Glückwunsch.... toll gegeigt und fantastisch interpretiert.
soo beautifull!!
👏👏👏🌹🌹🌹
he is wonderful
Fantastic!!!!
I love his playing style. Please, do you know which strings is he using? they sound very clear
That violin does NOT sound special at all. Rather grainy, hollow and dissipates when played softly. Not all Strads are equal, and there are many many examples of violins by many other makers that are better than many of the Strads.
