    Ray Chen has had 2 E string snaps recently but he carries a spare set in his pocket or maybe just the E! Lol. He continues playing on 3 strings for a few bars, swaps violins quickly with the concert master when there's a break, chucks down his packet and they restring in pit-stop time, so he can continue. A seamless operation...

    At 0:34 it looks like he had to adjust to it and slide a bit into that high note, you can see it on his face. Or maybe not In any case as someone who plays violin each violin is indeed very different to each other

    I suspect the real reason there are so many redundant instruments in a orchestra is, just in case, for backup

    Something I find funny… when you see videos of violinists strings breaking, the violin that they change too tends to sound better in my opinion (whether it’s soloist and concertmaster or concertmaster first chair etc

    Mainly because it's the thinnest and has the highest tension on the bridge
