If Kim were to pass on any time soon, then the DPRK would be forced to change their constitution to allow her to ascend to the Leadership role. At the moment, they have no-one else deemed suitable for the position. If Kim were able to father a son beforehand, she would still be required to take up the role on a sort of "Regency" basis, until the son is old enough to take it himself. All of that is pretty scary

The fact that she wears designer clothes and bags is so crazy. Especially when it’s done to impress the west. Many people who have fled NK has said that because they don’t know what luxury brands like Chanel and Dior were (because they don’t have internet and the few who have TV can only watch state approved content) they had no idea that her bags or clothing was so expensive, which made them furious when they found out on the outside. They only thought they were pretty. One off those bags can buy like 5 families their own houses in NK no problem and here she walks around with it under her arm. No wonder they don’t want the NK people to know what it is and what it costs.

The elite of NK obtain perks which are not accessible to the rest of the population. Apparently Pyongyang is where the wealth is concentrated. Being a 'show city' it does serve to distracting Western visitors and media from the tragedy which is unfolding in the country. But I'm not sure that the 'queen' would be in rags apart from a desire to impress the West, because KJU himself was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and went to school in Switzerland. Plutocracy is a common feature of absolute dictatorships. Where the power is, the money is also. But even the well-to-do are subject to chronic failures of the electrical power grid. Imagine having electricity two hours per day. Apparently soldiers do not have enough to eat, so they survive by stealing from civilians. Theft and the black market are endemic, in the absence of a functional economy or government services. Yet the State reserves the right to requisition labor at any time, for any reason. I have it from reliable sources that North Koreans are learning more about the outside world by watching South Korean TV dramas in secret on the internet. Defections are increasing as people realize that they've been had. The South Korean gov't has programmes for welcoming and rehabilitating North Korean refugees. A lot of these people get hooked up with churches, become Christians, and do incredibly well in South Korean society.

Even if he dies, Kim Yo-Jong will still live and she is just as ruthless and callous as her brother. Even if she doesn't rule herself, though she is ruthless and capable enough to change the law and make it so a woman can rule. Even if that's a battle she doesn't want to deal with, she can be her brother's son(s) regent and effectively rule through them as the puppet master.

Well honestly.......I can think of another presidential couple who's photos never ever look very affectionate at all. As a matter of fact, the first lady I'm thinking of doesn't say much either, but nothing in her mood, expressions, body language or actions imply that she is happily married either.......so one doesn't have to look all the way to North Korea for a loveless political marriage

Even though she likely had no choice in her marriage, I would think it would be very much to her advantage. She isn't starving to death and lives in luxury, especially compared to the average North Korean. Not an ideal life, probably not the happiest life, but thing could be a lot worse for her as a commoner.
