STRETCHY BIND OFF for Beginners (game changing!)
FULL BLOG POST here: sheepandstitch.com/library/ho...
In this video I'll show you how to knit a stretchy bind off.
A stretchy bind off is one of the most versatile and useful skills to have in your knitting arsenal. Stretchy bind offs are perfect for ribbings on sleeves, necklines, hats and socks where stretch is needed to accommodate a hand, head or foot.
Thankfully a stretchy bind off is not difficult to do at all. In this video I'll show you two ways to knit a stretchy bind off step by step.

I love your videos! You are a great teacher. I always forget how to do the stretchy bind off and always come back to this video for help. PLEASE DON'T EVER DELETE IT!!!
Wow!! This is incredible. My jumper neckline was just like your cowl. I didn’t stand a chance of it going over my head. Tried it your way and it’s perfect. Thank you so so much. God bless you
This was soooo helpful! The best tutorial on the stretchy bind-off! So detailed but also upbeat and cheerful. My knitted piece now has a super stretchy bind-off! Thanks!!!
Thanks So Much for your instructions! Love the stretchy bind off! 🥰🥰🥰
I’ve been trying a stretchy bind off for a special item, and frogged constantly as they all looked so messy. So thanks very much for this very clear tutorial, neat and stretchy. Very happy 😊
Thank you So Much for your instructions on stretchy bind off! I like it much more than traditional bind off! Thank Thank you ! 💕💕😊😊

Hey Kim! Thanks so much! I love following your card creations on Instagram! Hope you're staying safe during this time!
You really are a wonderful teacher. You not only explain what you are doing but show it as well. You also go nice and slow and repeat it which helps. Thank you.
I definitely needed this. Previously I was using extended single crochet as my bind off. This looks cleaner to me. Thank you!
Love the video & I’m really happy you’re back!! Hope you and love ones are safe! Please keep posting! 🧺
This is soooo good to know! I just finished my first scarf and the bind off did seem tight. Thanks so much for your videos. I first learned to knit using your videos.
The most understandable video on a stretchy bind off that I could find! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much. I worked on my circular knit cowl for more than a day binding off atleast 12 times. Your method really worked.
ooh! I should try this one the next time I cast off! by the way, thanks for all your videos and tutorials. I learned how to knit and went from being an absolute beginner to knitting up projects in no time! I've made quite a few hats using your pattern on straight needles already :)
Thank you so much for this!! I have been trying to figure out a better bind off for my knitted blanket and I didn’t like how tight the traditional bind off was! I was worried it would be hard but this was so easy thank you thank you! 🎉
OMG This is so awesome and helpful! I'm knitting with very loopy yarn and every other stretchy bind off I tried failed miserably. Your teaching technique is professional, personable and fun! Thank you thank you thank you! (ps love your adorable nails.)
Thank you so much! This video saved me! My great aunt passed away many years ago and had pieces of a sweater she knit, but it needed to be sewn together and have a collar added. After finally thinking I finished the sweater and trying it on, I literally had the same moment as you where I couldn't fit my head in! I of course panicked, but after redoing it with the stretchy bind-off, now it fits perfectly!
Thank you for this tuitorial. My necks were too tight when casting off normally. This makes such a huge difference.
I think I've got it, I have been doing half of what I remembered, now it makes sense. Thank you for clarifying what to do in a way that I could understand it.💖💖💖💖
Wow, finally someone explained this in a way I can understand (being dyslexic doesn't help following directions, ha!). I have destroyed many a cowls before I found this today. Now I am eager to try again. Thank you!
This video is perfect timing as I'm just finishing a project. Thanks!
hey sis, i just learn to knit and your channel is the first place i go to and so far has the best well explained step by step 😘 just finished my 2x2 rib stitch with this bind off and it turns out soo stretchy 💕 hope you will make more knitting videos in the near future
Great Video! Please make more videos, this is where I learned how to knit and I'd like to learn more from you! Stay Safe! (P.S: I'm an 11 year old boy who knits so yeah, hope to see more videos so I can use up all of my yarn to buy new yarn 😂) Please make more videos!
This is a very stretchy, easy and quick bond off. Thank you
This was brilliant! I knitted a hat but it was too short so added a few more rows but when I did a normal bind off and then tried in rib, the hat wouldn’t go on. Not one to give up, I found this video and it worked. I’m feeling very pleased with how it turned out so thank you for sharing this brilliant tip/technique
Omg I just finished knitting a high waisted short and the bind off was so perfect by using this method ! Thank you so much !

That’s WONDERFUL!! Thank you SO MUCH for this amazing video!!
thank you, this saved my sweater. i love u
Yay! I’m glad to see a new video from you! I recently bought a batch of yarn to support my LYS during these closures that I think will work for the raglan sweater pattern. I’m thinking I won’t actually start it till later this summer though. It’s just too hot in Texas to think about sweaters!
Revolutionary! I’ve literally never know how to stop the cast of from being tight as all hell!
I'm always happy to ser your vids pop up on my feed
Love your tutorial so easy to follow you’re very good at this!
Subscribed after seeing just this one video. Demystifies technique ...clear, concise and well presented. I look forward to seeing more.
Life changing-!!! I used it to bind off sweater neck
Thank you so much. I’m using a yarn with two strands of color and the other demonstration were having me slip through the back, which was too hard and made a mess of the yarn. This is so much easier.
Ah, hi. 😁 Yeah, so I've been isolated at a campground in Georgia for a month and a young woman who, with her husband were also stuck there. (sunny and 80s) But she could do amazing things with some yarn. I figured, I'm bored, this is creative and cool. I'll give it a shot. Your videos were, by a good margin the best. I'd noticed that you'd not done a video in a while so I was pleased to see you today. I'm still a total noob, but I can cast on like nobody's business! 🤣

So helpful thank you!
Love this cast/bind off and your videos! It seems like I can also use this method to cast off in pattern with the last stitch being the deciding element for either a knit or purl cast off stitch (if that made sense). I am open to correction. Thank you!
Thank you so very much. ❤
I literally messed up mine bcs i didn't watch till the end 😂 i was doing rib stitch for a sock and bind off the first normal way. This is why it's important to watch till the end, thank you for the tutorial!! So helpful

I totally agree. I thought this was one of those channels that got left behind but thank God that's not the case!
This is a good tutorial. For some reason, I thought this would be harder.
Great video and I subscribed! I knit left-handed Continental, so it took me a couple of viewings of the video and frequent stops.
You're awesome! And helpful! :)
This is perfect thanks! Just made my first jumper and the waste cast off is too tight! Going to get it back on my needles and give this a go
I LOVE your videos! You're a riot! 🤣🤣🤣

I'm glad you think so! I was worried it was a bit "too much" haha
Thank you
It was so awkward trying to k2tog that I switched to a crochet hook in my right hand. I didn't have the same size as my knitting needles, but I used a haf size down and kept it loose. So much easier!
You're back!!!!
