If (for example) I'm fighting to resolve a beef, the goal is to win, not lose. If I'm fighting to gain respect, the goal is to win, not lose. Now, in each of these instances, I *might* lose, in which case the beef is resolved and/or the respect earned, but I won't be fighting to lose. And with all fights, especially in a ring, sportsmanship is king.

Just going on what I've seen across watching several videos, I have only seen a couple fights where the opponents seemed to know each other and have disagreement. It looks like they go with who shows up to fight on the day and try to match them up with the closest opponent they can. These people are just showing up without knowing a skill level, weigh in goal, or sometimes even what discipline they're even going to be fighting in.
