Los Vilos (From mapuche: Filu, ‘snake’)? is both a Chilean coastal commune and a coastal city with over 9,000 inhabitants (18,275 in comuna[2]), located in the Province of Choapa, part of the IV Region of Coquimbo. The city has a harbour called Puerto Punta Chungo, which ships the material from Los Pelambres mine. Fishing is one of its main activities. The city also has a significant amount of tourism, mainly due to its two beaches: La Principal and Las Conchas. It is located 246 kilometres (153 mi) from La Serena and 246 kilometres (153 mi) from Santiago.
The city was founded in 1830 and was declared a minor harbour in 1855.

Miggu greetings. I will be doing more videos of Chile in the next few week then I'm off to Bolivia, the Guyana's NE of South America, Brazil. Yes, I have a car. The car is a 2015 Toyota 4x4 4Runner. You need a large car for travelling. I have a stack of tools, Gerry cans, clothing photographic equipment etc. I will be doing most of South America for the next 2 years. Hace 16 años me fui de Los Vilos por buscar una vida mejor, según el video puedo visualizar que lo que es el centro principal, siguen los mismos negocios, lo nuevo, la tienda de los chinos, la farmacia cruz verde, un coffe q no recuerdo el nombre, un centro de diversión en la esquina de los semáforos. Además, la nueva caleta San pedro, remodelada, la municipalidad, y lo más sorprendente, el nivel del mar en la playa, antes todo eso era playa con arena, se ponía la feria artesanal. En conclusión, sigue todo igual, con algunas mejoras con respecto a la municipalidad y la caleta. La plaza el ancla, esta igual o peor de como la conocía, deberían intervenir y remodelarla. Saludos.

Los vilos es lindo si se han hecho muchas cosas arreglos en la Costanera plazas para poder compartir con los hijos en familia se a enfocado en el deporte si bien el centro tiene negocios nuevos y antiguos no es llegar y destruir lo que lleva generaciones y destruir un entorno y que lo identifica al igual que en otras partes antiguas.. Tiene lugares hermozos. su gente agradable atienden bien gente amable que no hay en otros lugares si hay gente que no entiende que hay que cuidar su entorno eso es de cultura. Tiene su encanto a pesar de lo que digan.. Yo vivo más de 20 años y me gusta mucho

La gente hace horrible las ciudades... porque no cuidan lo que tienen ; voy con frecuencia a Los Vilos...y es muy agradable...cada lugar tiene su belleza...gracias
Sinceramente y sin ofender, no es mas que una caleta de pescadores y seria. Se ve muy descuidado y muy pobre..Que lastima!

I totally agree. This small village could be a tourist destination if it had upmarket seafood restaurants, no fish small, parking and trees.
