The toys were what got me started on Street Sharks. I had all four main Sharks. I did see the cartoon, but after i bit my sister pretending to be a shark, my mom forbid me to watch it. Nowadays, even though my heart is to Ninja Turtles, I still have a soft spot for Street Sharks. Ripster was my favorite.

I accidentally discovered street sharks on KZread. When I was 7 I found one of the commercials on KZread and thought these action figures are so cool. So now every time I go to a vintage toy store, I look for street sharks.

What you unfortunately often don't find anymore is the ingenious packaging of the Toyline. So just when it comes to the sharks. The design was a shark cage. The front was made of plastic bars and the rest of cardboard.

man this brought back a lot of memories. I remember having the base ripster, the boxer slammu, the streex with the metal hockey stick, the ripster with the motorcycle and the trex from the xtreme dinosaurs. I remember having a vhs tape that had the first 1 or 2 episodes on it that i would watch all the time. Another knock off line i was crazy for when i was little was a transformers knock off but they turned into dinosaurs instead. I had the whole set.

I was almost 16 when these came out and had outgrown toys by then. These are some cool toys though and if these had come out when TMNT was out in the late 80's I would have probably bought a bunch of them. I'm now a marketer by profession and looking back at how good of a job these marketing teams did to hook kids on their products is exciting. I do see a weakening of the marketing concepts as toys went on from the 80's into the 90's but it still worked. Kids these days just don't get the same level of awesome toy lines like we did growing up.

In the city of industry CA, there’s a place called Frank and Sons that’s a giant indoor swap meet full of vendors that sell nothing but geeky stuff. There’s several stands that sell vintage street shark figures that are mostly out of the box with accessories varying. They’re sold reasonable prices too. If you’re ever down in SoCal you should really stop buy. Imports, Comics, cards, movies, video games, figures, garage kits

From what i remember the type of paint they used on the figures (even the rubberised sections) is that type of paint that leaves a solid plastic coat on the toy so it's easy to chip and snag and it pretty much starts cracking and flaking as soon as the toy experiences any prolonged play. Outside of restorations i can see the only ones you'd be able to find in decent quality would be ones that were initially purchased with collection in mind.
