Dude I really can't watch your videos without a smile on my face, apart from a great photographer you're a very nice guy and I'm sure that's why so many people is happy to let you take their photo
Best tutorial I've ever seen. 6 seconds and I'am done 😂

Let’s be honest. It’s just way more interesting being Danish and living in Mexico City and being a street photographer than being Danish and being a street photographer in any town in Denmark. I think we really get creative and interested in people and compositions when they are not that familiar and ordinary to us. Do you agree?

I think it is tempting to think like that, but you can improve so much if you are in your hometown/city/country, and try to imagine you are seeing things for the first time. I truly think you can take amazing photos anywhere, but it is you as the photographer that must bring that perspective (literally and figuratively).
You’re definitivly one of ma favorite photographers ! 🖤

You are you, you are Danish and you live in Mexico. I'm me, I'm Norwegian and I live in Norway. I think I just enjoy your videos, and make images of my little family and the area here I live. People here lost their souls, and my soul is cold, but to watch you and the warm people of Mexico, almost makes me melt:-)

Awesome! Loved this
Such an awesome video you are a great photographer and a lot of these images came out really nice. I’ve been working on my street photography and I have a long way to go but I want to give this technique a try as opposed to creeping around taking pictures of strangers unsuspectedly.
I don't know, I think this is the magic of South America, I have not spent so much time in Mexico but a little more in Costa Rica and there is just an other music in the air...people have a good heart and have not such a hard time to share a smile or some kind words also they are kind of proud and they are beautiful. Thanks for sharing this beautiful moments.

Love your work man! You've definitely inspired me to shed that fear and just go out and shoot. I just want to know where you develop your film in Mexico City or do you do it yourself?
Love your work with street portraits! For quick metering, use the sunny 16 rule or rollei metering works?

Another great video Frederik, can’t wait until I can get back out on the streets. Need a new camera first after falling in a river with both of mine, I’ve got my film cameras but only just started using them, not even developed a film yet. Still waiting on the insurance to sort my claim
and genuine smiles from me at 2:43 - There's something great about the Mexican culture that many people need to experience. It's tough shooting people here in Japan (asking permission or not) because of "right to privacy" lawsuits that have occurred, and asking people for portraits is something I need to pursue more. It works, but it's tough. Anyway, great video as always.

the guy on the bench when you first got your rollei... You gotta print that one man. It's almost a heart shape with the shadow around his mouth too.
Tnx Frederik. I love the vid & also the shots you got (IG). Is the choice to stick with film driven by the interest on YT or maybe you like the "process" of shooting it, or maybe you like the output better than digital? If you could share the turnaround time and approx cost per shot pse. How many street type shots do you perhaps miss due to maybe not shooting a burst etc? Tnx in advance
You are extremely inspiring, I too am a bit shy to ask, I have done a few times and have about a 70% success rate, weirdly, the rejection doesn't bother me, I don't know what my shyness 'issue' is... Also, on a side note, if you don't already, it would be great to have a video of your editing process, I know you have presets available but I use Lightroom rather than Capture One, so it would be cool to get some bench marks in the settings.
Dope video! As for the sharing of the platform you'll be posting the photos on (Instagram, Flickr, 500px,..), I've always been torn as to whether it is a smart thing to do or not. Many people would just say no just because you're posting the photo and thereby making them public. A photo project for a course and a proposal to send the picture direct to the people works better for me. I did share my Insta in the first place though.
I like portraits a lot but struggle to really ask someone for their photo. I feel like being in a foreign country really takes that edge off instead of doing it in my own city.

That's awesome 👌 .. I do street photography but sometimes I feel that fear of losing my camera in some street fights and strangers asking me what are you doing !😇 and it's worse when they come close to ask me or investigate me 😟 what should I do ? Run ???? 😏🤨😒

Great channel Frederik, love the videos...always loved my time in Mexico too. I’m English but live in Denmark, like most countries we are in lockdown so getting to travel is almost impossible, so I’m exploring your country with a few of my film cameras. Quick question for you, how do you connect the Gopro to the Rolleiflex...which adapter do you use for the tripod mount? Thanks Peter

Where you develop your B&W film in CDMX?
Which camera was used in this video?

As an alternative to Leica, can you suggest a rangefinder camera as I want to focus on b&w street shooting (b camera to my a7rii kit)? Thanks!
@funfor1life
3 жыл бұрын
The Ricohs GRii or iii are really good on the wide end. A Fuji X100 series would give you a solid 35mm FF equivalent alternative while keeping things on the light and stealthy side without any compromise on image quality (fastest aperture and crisper photos than the Ricohs, both being APS-C). The Fujis are better imo but obviously while considering a non interchangeable pocketableish camera, focal length is something to look at and entirely up to you. Good luck and enjoy. Ps. If you don't really need weather resistance and want to be able to play around different focal lengths, DoFs, quality, etc.. the Fujis XT20/30s are a LOT of camera for the money and you could test your way into the great Fuji lenses lineup (they are interchangeable bodies) with either one. Hope it helped!

@@funfor1life thanks for the feedback. I'm noticing that Frederik was using an X-T4 prior to acquiring the Rolleiflex, so he seemed to be ok shooting a lot of b&w without rangefinder style body.

@@elliotresnick5433 My pleasure. I shoot mostly B&W with an X-T3. The Acros film simulations are something you'll want to have a look at (and then indulge into! ;)) Have fun, Fuji cameras are such a joy to shoot with! I don't do video so the only advantage of an XT3 over my old XT2 is the bettered AF. If you don't need it, then you're up for a bargain on a used XT2 (if that's what you want). I'm impressed with their pricing and user-experiece. Incredible :)
I wonder, do you ever give prints of the people you photograph to them? Or do you have a card with your social info so they can see themselves here on KZread?
Dear Frederik my name is Stefano and I am from Uruguay.I wanted to ask you which reactions you use with your Rolleiflex. I do medium format myself and I'm curious to know how you measure the light. Do you measure each time you take a picture or do you use a unique system that allows you to not measure the light at any time? Thanks a lot!

A little. If you have a camera you’re good. And this Rolleiflex is new to me, so I’ve shot a lot of photos with a “normal camera” and that works just fine :)
The key thing is to send them a print if they would like it, anything else is taking without giving.
