    @@0xsergy I have seen pickups in this country and Japanese trucks flatten the cabs in rollovers. That bed bar isnt near enough. Go ahead jump on the fad band wagon. Those are trucks not cars. Less safety requirements. Just look at them with an objective Eye. Narrow high centered . Weight distribution is all off. Do what you want. Its your money and your life.

    @@bob.w3984 If the truck rolls and hits something directly with the roof it doesn't matter what brand you're dead, it's not meant to take an impact like that. I wouldn't be worried about high COG just due to the 90kmh speed limit. There are plenty of kei truck crash test videos which show the cab holding up well in rollovers. Well, some of them. The chinese kei trucks seem to be very, very squishy lol. I'd stay far away from those. In general though you'd have to drive the kei truck like a motorcycle. Expect the unexpected and just be safer.

    Great company advertisement! I wonder what kind of range could be had with an electric conversion? A medium size fork lift motor would be more hp then gas p, and they’re so lite you could mount battery packs along the frame and balance the weight perfectly.

    Joe Lowrey If I remember correctly the DOT won't allow them because they are production vehicles that don't pass safety guidelines. I suppose it may be possible to find some that are grandfathered in.

    Any JDM vehicle more than 25 years old can be made street legal in the USA. The paperwork is horrible though. There are importers that have JDM vehicles with titles from their respective state, which usually makes titling it easier in your home state. Look up "Japanese classics" in Virginia. They always have about 30ish JDM vehicles. Not sure if they take requests or not. Doug Demuro got a Nissan S-cargo from them.

    The Why. I am building a cabin with full utilities in a fishing village in alaska, Access, Car ferry 2x week, or small ferry ( no cars, once a day) or by airplane, my method. I wanted a reliable vehicle for carrying building supplies from the ferry cargo lot, to my build lot. I wanted said car to be useful for personal transportation too. I was willing to spend 10,000 plus for a reliable vehicle. Choices: Craigslist p.o.s.: the nearest auto parts place is a ferry or airplane ride away, not practical to have a fixer upper. Craigslist 10,000 truck : Gas mileage, size, and maneuverability: Gas in a fishing village, expensive,size, my lot isn't huge, and I really liked the atv trail in,out of my 10 acres, also, the last hill would require serious tires and a good transmission/brake set up on the lot. Maneuverability, I didn't want to have to widen my road, or have a full size truck around town. Most folks get around on atv, or side by side atv's, trucks are more rare, make more dust, and use more mo gas. Side by side: price and practicability: I used one there for a year, borrowed it. Problems, the heater was weak, its not set up to get warm in those loosely fitting plastic cabs. It was cold in there in the winter, condensation, visibility, and constantly having to wipe off the dirt dust on the INSIDE of the cab was tiresome. I ordered from an importer a low mileage, basically new japan/mini truck. Truck plus:lift, atv rims,tires,bumper, was 14,000. Mileage on the truck was 5,000 miles. It still smelled new, and had virtually no rust. I got an enclosed cab vehicle that basically competed price wise with a polaris ranger for 3/4 the price. I have good lights, blinkers,air conditioning, great heater, carry more, no dust flying around the cab when on the gravel road. I am not hunting or trying to out speed or off road anyone. I can climb a hill as steep as a polaris ranger, with a load. to me, the competition was a used small truck or a polaris side by side. it is cheaper than a new polaris,and it is new. it is comfortable and easy on the gas and can carry more. easy on the gas, doesn't take up more than my fair share of space in front of the one and only bar. I could go on and on how much i love the thing. bonus, it is small enough to be unassuming at the airport, I don't take up space from other airport parkers, just a little bush space off the side of the ramp. cons: I have a 20 lb dog, the space in the cab is real limited, with two people in there...but hey, you can't have EVERYTHING. reasons to NOT get one. you want to go faster on atv type tires.... it feels great up to 40 mph with my lift and atv tire combo. I'd feel uncomfortable going faster without all the american safety equipment, your face is pretty close to the next guys bumper. you need to carry a big load, as in its not practicable to make multiple trips. It is perfect for a small town or village, where you'll be sharing roads with atv's bikes, pedestrians, and full size cars. If you go with a good importer, you can get a good, low mileage car for under 10,000 dollars and do the lift, changes yourself. To insure it, I got an atv/snowmachine sticker, under alaska dmv rules, and keep it in the village. love the thing: for my purposes.

    I was fortunate enough to go through an importer here in alaska. I contemplated importing one myself. I would like to impress on people that going through an importer is worth it. ( did my research) My importer, for instance, has an opposite in japan, that looks at each and every truck, in, out, under, and verifies the odometer and ownership records with the local "d.m.v." Just like anywhere, there are unscrupulous people trying to pull a fast one. There is guy here in anchorage that let me drive his, looking underneath it, it was obvious it had been in a front end accident, and had been amateurish welded back together. His recourse....none! ...go to japan and complain? An importer, wanting to get as much business as possible, is going to be looking out for such shennanigans, to keep the positive word of mouith feedback coming. Go with an importer folks, you'll get twice the truck , with half the mileage, for the same price

    I was going to buy one but found out the parts are expensive and often hard to find but I was going to chance it anyway but then I learned that most of these are Reconditioned Tsunami Flood Trucks from Japan well I don't want a rig that has been in a flood from the USA so hope you fellows can find parts when the water damage kicks in.

  • @0xsergy

    @0xsergy

    5 жыл бұрын

    On a lot of the sites you can see the vehicles past history and flood damage shows on there, usually. I mean, it's a bit of a gamble but so is a new car. As for parts, yeah probably are a bit of a bitch to get a hold of. If you have a local guy importing them all the time you might be able to get a deal on parts but shipping times will kill ya.

    In Canada they can be driven on and off road, you always have the option of buying a full size truck as well as side/side but you will need deeper pockets then.

    Tebo, they are selling like hotcakes in the americas for a reason, but they are not for everyone. If your budget is 9-12, and you have no plans to mud, or hunt, or get stuck on purpose, they are great., and cheap to insure and drive. Not that they can't hunt or mud or get stuck on purpose, I'd hate to trash the nice vehicle it is. I have an atv for that. for me and my purpose, it was a competitor for a polaris ranger, that I was going to use for basic transportation and supply hauling, grocery runs. There are definitely othervehicles whose primary purpose is off roading, mudding, getting stuck, unstuck. These trucks are more multi-purpose, if you are more into the "multi" , part of purpose. as in all you tube videos.....just an opinion.

    It's an alternative to the shitty sidebysides that can't go 600km without something breaking, that's the way I see it. If you want to use it as a hunting truck or a work truck to replace what a sidebyside would do it's definitely the way to go. Also, the prices I see are below 6k with shipping usually. 12000 bucks might be for a low mile, almost new one.
