@@ohdirtracer yes, I totally agree, BMW K1600 & Honda Goldwing & Harley Street Glide are at the same price, but Honda and BMW have everything, you don't nearly need to add anything to them and they're much powerful and much smoothier than Harley. Harley makes you spend more after buying bikes.

When i compared the new base Indian Chieftain to the Base Street glide, in Canada anyway, a few things pushed me towards the Indian. Led lights, rear cylinder shut off at stops, better suspension, better power, bigger engine and a sweet electric windshield and 7 inch vs 4 inch screen, all come stock and aren't upgrades like on the Harley and for the exact same price.

Ive had Harley for a while, i currently have a 2009 Rocker C, 2014 Dyna Wide Glide & 2021 Street Glide, there was a brief period where i did go over to Indian & picked up a new Chieftain in 2019 but that bike was gone late 2021 and i ended up picking up a 2021 Street Glide. Sure, there are things to upgrade on a Harley but thats part of the fun of customizing and individualizing your motorcycle, if a Harley came stock with all of these things that people cry should be included then every Harley would look the same, no thanks. Ive added a ton of things to my 3 motorcycles but its part of the fun and the experience, there is nothing i can not do to any of my Harley's, thats what i love about Harley.

I could have done the detachable hardware for the Ultra, yes but it just wasn't needed anymore. I can also say, after taking both on long trips I liked the M8 107 SGS over the TC 103 Ultra. It rode so much smoother, ran better on the highways and back roads and i was less fatigued. Love my batwing and my M8. Yes your color scheme is one of the better ones besides the flat red.

For the bike and I've put another $8,000. In extras. I keep every bike I buy so I don't mind putting money into them. I just had my stereo done to concert quality. $3800. All smoked led custom dynamics front and back.$2,000. Handlebars and grips $1100. Painted inner fairing and trim. $1,000. Ohlins rear shocks.$950. Floorboard upgrade, this that and whatever. You get the picture. When you get bit by the accessory bug it turns into an obsession.. I wouldn't change a thing.

My 2019 SGS is worth it. I ride almost everyday and I love it. If people worry about price then the SGS may not be for them. But, if you can afford it, I highly recommend owning one. Harley builds bikes to customize. The first thing I threw away was the seat and the exhaust. I upgraded to a Mustang seat, and a Screamin Eagle full exhaust with air intake and tuner. A lot of the things people want come with the CVO packages.

From there I've done Stage 3 (gen 2) 122 w/TQ cam, 55mm alum Intake, Rekluse slave cylinder, S.E. clutch kit upgrade, Legend revo-a, Legend aexo, Black pushrods, Black Tappet covers, S&S Tappet collars, Plugs and cables, Reinhart full system, Auto Tune Module, Aux lights & housings, Mustang Seat, Sissy bar & luggage rack, Adjustable Levers, Cooling Fan & deflectors, Feuling vented dipstick, F/R & bag signals, LED Headlight, Heated Grips, S.E Pro tuner, Windscreen, Saddle guards, Full front fender, Lighted Hand controls Hwy pegs, Matching D/P Boards, Fan oil cooler, Bag liners, KST 12" Bars, Mirrors, Shift linkage, Derby cover, Plug covers Ext foot brake lever & floorboards. About another 8gs including labor. Did this all through harley to retain my warranty for the next 6yrs and then 5yrs after that. I love everything about this bike. I have a 19 ninja 1000 that I very likely won't ride more than a few hundred miles this year. It's defn expensive but it's something that I love riding and won't regret.

Your right, it is too expensive and you will have to actually love the look. Which I do. It's very heavy and designed for long hauls. Since this covid19 thing, long hauls are kind of risky. I might think of getting a light tourer for everyday use and some short trips. It's like buying a 4x4 and never taking it off road. It's there if you need but you have to ask yourself, how often will you need a bike like this.

My 2017 SGS was a very good bike, a bit pricey, but still a good bike. Loved the M8 motor and the look as well, but overall it was not the best touring bike I've owned. At 6'1", I always felt a little cramped ergonomically and the suspension/ride quality was terrible. That "slammed" look comes at a price. And forget about riding 2 up unless you replace the stock seat and suspension. I ultimately ended up trading it in after 3 years for a "new", leftover 2018 Star Transcontinental Venture. I only got $11.5k for a trade-in on the SGS, but got the Venture out the door for $19,995 (MSRP $18k) with a 4-year extended warranty. The Venture's suspension rides like a limo. It has ABS brakes, traction control, two ride modes, navigation, tire pressure monitors, AM/FM, CB radio, Bluetooth (phone/iPod), heated seats & grips, remote locking saddlebags, an electronic windshield, just to start. It doesn't have the fit & finish of the Harley and it's not as "cool" looking, but it's a better bike in almost every conceivable way IMHO. You'd have to spend over $30k+ to get a comparably equipped Harley.

So, why buy the garbage barge? Get a Road King and listen to music over your phone. Better fidelity anyway. RK also weighs a lot less and doesn't have that awful slammed suspension. Comes with rear crash bars too. Best part is it's about 25% cheaper! For a big, comfy touring rig that gets around town and the backroads just fine too, I didn't find the price objectionable at all. Cheaper than most bikes in its class and doesn't have a bunch of crap I don't want anyway. If I need "infotainment," I'll get a beer, sit on the couch, and grab the remote.

Many of the added accessories you’re talking about come standard on the BMW and plus some; Adaptive Xenon headlight, all LED lights, step-less adjustable windshield, heated seat/passenger and grips, 3 ride modes, Dynamic Traction Control, Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment), ABS Pro, clutch-less shift (up and down), central locking, more torque and HP (no need to add a Stage 1,2,3 performance kit), and lighter weight (740lbs wet).

Leonard Russo, yes you’re kind of right. One is a V-twin and the other is an in-line 6, but both are Baggers. Hell, even the CVO versions are $40k or more. It still doesn’t take away from HD charging so much for their motorcycles. The SGS should be $15k less and shouldn’t be more than my Bagger. I guess people like throwing away money on old tech. Plus your right the K1600B (birthday cake) is much better than SGS (apples). 🤣

Ride control (Sport,Standard,Tour) , power locking bags, tire sensors, better ride, Thunderstroke 116 motor. I have never met a dealership I really like both of the ones I've been to up here in Pennsylvania kind of treat you like shit. I literally bought a $27,000 motorcycle went back in a week later for my first service and they didn't even ask me how the ride was or if I was enjoying the bike it was just like hey. I just gave you 27 Grand and that's the warm welcome you get when you come back? They're pretty much assholes and arrogant. I recently bought a Honda Grom after owning a Yamaha raider 1900cc cruiser. I have had more fun on the Grom than any other bike I've had. 30k for a motorcycle is crazy. Smaller bikes are more fun. I still have the raider and honestly it sits in the garage. I will never buy another cruiser unless it's like an iron 883 or something small and cheap. The bigger cruisers suck cause you are limited to where you ride, I could never ride dirt or gravel roads on my raider due to the weight. Smaller cruisers I can with ease. The big baggers are really for touring only. I just never saw the thrill in long road trips, I get tired of the 3 hour non stop highway riding.

Have the exact same bike and same colour set, and that Industrial Grey Denim is what sealed the deal. Came from a 1200XL custom, to a VRod Nightrod, to a Dyna Streetbob to finally a bagger. Love the look and 100% agree the 2020 Ultra is abetter deal especially now that it's available two tone and blacked out. I bought the 19 SG and added lowers, back rest, quick detach etc. I still have to swap the lights to led as they are horrible stock and likely upgrade the suspension to Legends or Ohlins. Realistically should have bought the ultra, paid for the quick detach beer box kit. Could have stripped the aux lights, and sold them, changed out the shocks which I'm doing anyway and you'd have all the extras like the heated grips, headset hookups, liquid cooling, and the beerbox for a few thousand dollars less than what it will cost to add those on to the SG. That said, it's still beautiful bike and resale on the SG is proportionately higher than any other model due to it's popularity.

Nice bike! I have the same model and going a 2001 road king for 10years to the 2019 Street glide it is worlds apart. After much deliberation I finally bought the bike last Oct and after just 2000 miles I love my bike and don't regret buying it one bit. But I did have to change a few things that down right were terrible from the factory. First thing I got was my extended brake pedal. Factory one was to short and I was pulling my foot off and around to hit it. Second was the floor board extenders. only moves the boards 1" wider but its much more of a comfortable ride and leg position around the large gas tank. The sissy bar was mandatory or wife would fly off back of bike during acceleration. A few other things I put on were the 12" KST mayhem bars for better arm and hand position and a 2" taller windshield cause wind was hitting me in face not going over head. BTW I'm 6' 1" 215 pounds for comparison. I feel HD built bike for a smaller guy, they should have a couple options for different rider sizes. Next up is a new seat and maybe shocks for long range touring I usually ride. The bike is the Street glide special in billiard blue. KTRSD!

It really bugged me that the 2019 Indian Chieftain comes with LED lights all around but the Street Glide Special comes with zero. Even the Road Glide Special comes with an LED headlight.. a double headlight at that. Easy to install your own LED lights but it's not a cheap proposition. My motor is 100% stock and I plan to leave it that way. It runs pretty damn hot in the summer. Get stuck at a light and you feel it on the thighs. I believe they made the Street Glide because people wanted a bagger look without the "ole man," look of a full dresser and it became Harley's best selling bike. That being said it would be nice to have had a detachable tour pack from the get go and can have both in one bike. I have an 18 Street Glide Special and wish it did have all the things the Ultra has for what I paid for it. I have Rhinehart's too and they are great system.

Just stumbled upon this video. I recently bought a new/used 2016 Ultra Limited. I only bought it because it had 15 miles on it and it was almost half the price of new. My very first bike was a new Harley FXDLi and vowed I would NEVER buy another Harley because of the BS gouging on prices for everything required to make the bike decent. Well, the deal came up, so never say never. I sold my 2008 Golding that I bought new and its absolutely comical what I got for standard on that bike and what I had to change on this bike. This is what I have changed so far (and I usually only change stuff for safety and comfort): 1) Seat and drivers backrest, 2) Handlebars, grip heaters and lighted controls, 3) Front turn LEDs, LED brake light, LED fillers, 4) Stereo. The ONLY things I bought direct from Harley were the seat and backrest and everything else was from other manufacturers. I also need to change the shocks because stock shocks suck. Why does Harley get bashed so much? You pay a premium for a bike with tons of sub par performance. You get nickel'd and dime'd FOR EVERYTHING and almost always pay full MSRP for every item at the dealership. My 2008 Goldwing put out WAYYY more power, reverse, lighted controls across the dash, digital controlled suspension, heated grips, air bag, etc. They Harley? You have to add tons of crap aftermarket that should have been standard. Plus, my 2016 is underpowered, which is a whole other issue. So, aside from getting screwed on price, upgrades and items that should be standard, newer riders are choosing other brands because they are cheaper, come standard with more amenities, more reliable, more powerful and perform better. If you look at Harleys lineup, they are trying to manufacture bikes under $10k to appeal to newer riders. They are absolute junk and, for the same money, newer riders will buy metrics. People can keep believing that Harley is the #1 motorcycle for various reasons, ignorance is bliss, but there are a lot of other manufacturers out there selling LOTS of bikes. Why do you think that is?

Having a '19 FLHXS myself, what needs to be understood is what this bike is supposed to be - a mostly stripped down, hotrodded bagger. It's not supposed to have a tour pack, heated grips. a full windscreen, etc. That's why it has low-profile tires, no saddlebag guards, etc. So yeah, you either have to add those features (like I did) or upsize to the Ultra. It's a trade-off: more gadgets and luggage or way cooler looks with the stretched bags and blacked out components. My biggest gripes are: 1. If you're gonna black it out, why not also black out the jiffy stand, saddlebag latches, pushrod tubes, and tappet blocks? 2. Why put the cigarette lighter plug on the throttle side? Just put it in the empty panel to the left of the infotainment system for easier access.
